This is my last Rose/Ten book. It was on order for the longest time at Amazon.ca then they canceled the order, so I ended up getting the book from Amazon UK (where I get my Who books since). It was an average Rose book compared to the others. I liked the idea of a universe where humans are a plague or something so bad the planet is allergic to humans and let's face it as a specie we are kinda to ecosystems all around us. This planet and its inhabitants are interesting and we get two somewhat wel...more

An interesting premise that was very poorly executed. Of all the Doctor Who books I've read, this ranks as my least favorite. As other reviewers have noted, the writing is juvenile at best, cringe-worthy at worst. The biggest flaws for me, however, were the characterizations of both the Doctor and Rose. They spend half the book separated from one another, in dangerous circumstances, and neither one of them seems to have the slightest worry about the other. Very out-of-character for both.

Good story idea, bad writing. It's like bad fan fiction.
Example: "All three were safe - at least for the moment. But then he realised that there was a fourth shape moving, lower down the tower. He refocused his viewer and gasped in surprise. A Witiku! Had they missed one? Whatever the explanation, the creature was hot on the heels of Rose and her friends. The Doctor had to do something and, whatever it was, he had to do it fast" (231).

Doctor Who fans
This book portrays the characters consistently with the tv series, and has the same level of humor and curiosity as the show. Lots of fun to see more of Rose and the Doctor! I found it more readable than other tv series tie-in novels, such as Star Trek. I also really like the sturdy hardcover format, yet it's still small enough to hold open with one hand.

This novel wasn't too bad but it was another one that I had a hard time getting in to. Once the plot got moving, through, I couldn't put it down.
