I'm gradually expanding into the worlds of more characters other than just Green Lantern. For some reason, or maybe two, I was drawn to Power Girl. She has the powers of superman, but is much more vulnerable. I also wanted a fun story, something that isn't as interested in complex emotional mythologies. Power Girl herself has a very complex background. It involves surviving Krypton's destruction, traveling to another dimension before reaching our Earth. Luckily, this new beginning glosses over a

Okay, so you have two young women who have just been through a shattering experience together which involved the older one saving the life of the younger one. Oh, and I should have mentioned that the younger one has a crush on the older one, shouldn't I? Well, anyway, they're in the process of regaining balance after the excitement, and they've done something faintly mind-altering and are now in a very deep and intimate conversation and the subject of the feelings for one another has come up.

I really loved this book. I mean, I REALLY dug it. There's just a ton of great stuff to like. Gray & Palmiotti do a great job building up Power Girl as her own character, independent of the JSA. There is a lovable cuteness to her that plays against the stereotype of the giant-boobed, scantily clad superheroine. It's very refreshing to have such a good time with honest bits of fun character building, like the oft-used 9-panel grids, which the writers use to great effect.

This same review will appear for both Volumes 1 and 2. Both were written by the same duo and drawn by the same artist. They’re highly complimentary to each other, not telling many particularly deep long stories, but issues referenced each other and the approach to comics storytelling is solid across the entire run.
Power Girl is a delight. It’d have to be to get any non-pig to admit he loved reading a book about a bulletproof blonde with huge boobs. Even the cover art embarrasses you More...

Prior to this, my only real exposure to Power Girl was in JSA and, with so many other characters to keep track of in that book, my brain just categorized her as "the Kryptonian."
As part of my Free Comic Book Day '10 hijinks, I picked up the first trade of Palmiotti, Gray, and Conner's Power Girl ongoing and, dammit, I'm a Pee Gee fan, now.

A great reintroduction to the Power Girl character. The Connor & Palmiotti team do a bang up job as usual, this time supporting Justin Gray's fun writing. Terra makes a lot of guest appearances here, which is, to be perfectly honest, what got me to read this book, after I enjoyed the Terra miniseries so much.
My only gripe is that immediately after this, they handed the reins off to a completely different team for no reason I can understand. What the hell, DC? Even if the new people a More...

WHY DID I NOT READ THIS SOONER? I've asked myself that a lot, but in this case - I knew it was supposed to be good and fun and just altogether great, but sometimes knowing doesn't lead to doing. (Also, I always had problems with Power Girl because of, well, her costume, which is a stupid reason but there you go.) Anyway, now that I've finally read it all I can say that I love it love it love it, and can Power Girl be a) real and b) my girlfriend, please? Or my friend, period. She's awesome.

I generally don't read DC comics except for the occasional Batman (and even less occasionally, Superman) stories but after all the hype I've heard online about Power Girl and the current creative team I thought I would check it out.
The hype was pretty much spot on. A brief 5 panel backstory recap tells you everything you need to know and from that point on it's all refreshingly simple and self contained.

With a character whose history is as convoluted as Power Girl's, Justin Gray wisely chooses to open his new series by focusing on a move to New York. Establishing PG's new cast allows Gray to touch on classic elements while bringing the character into the modern DCU. The art by Palmiotti is great, but the first arc still suffers from the "restablishment arc." The high point remains a cameo by four suspicious "Big Bang" characters at the movies!

Nothing ground-breaking, but definitely fun superhero fare, helped in large part by the artwork of Amanda Connor, who can handle the action and the character bits with equal aplomb. She draws some of the most expressive faces on comics, and her sense of pacing (comedic especially) is excellent. Palmiotti and Gray write a decent story, but this is really Connor's show, and they give her ample opportunity to show her skills.

I couldn't get into this story at all. I read about two issues worth, and just wasn't feeling it. So I'm not really talking about the story much, because I can't really judge what I didn't finish.
But the story could be awful, and this would still be worth checking out simply because Amanda Connor is a BEAST on art. Love her stuff.

The first 1/3 of this TPB was excellent, but the remaining 2/3 was average. The entire creative team (which includes a married couple) at the start do an excellent job of inserting humor into the tale and character playing off of her hit first attitude, and obvious buxomisness.

The two main reasons to read this book are Amanda Conner (You thought I was going somewhere else with that, didn't you?)
Unfortunately the script contains some jarring oversights and an unnecessary recon of the Ultra-Humanite.

This book struck a really hard-to-find balance between superhero action and superhero character development that maintained a really fun attitude. I actually like Power Girl, even though she has a really big rack. :)

this was my first exposure to Power Girl. i like her better than Superman, which isn't saying much. there are some fun plots and some vaguely feminist dialogue. it's intriguing, but ultimately unsatisfying.

I know very little about this character outside of my limited experiences with the JSA books. The word that comes to mind is charming. She is a charming character. She is fun and interesting and I would love to see where this is going.

My experience with Power Girl, issue by issue.
#1 - This is silly.
#2 - This is really silly.
#3 - Well, maybe this one will be better.
#4 - Ooh, this is good.
#5 and on - This is good and fun. When can I get the next one!?
I wasn't skeptical, then I was, but it won me over by the end. Very good.

Two of my favorite authors and the art by Amanda Connor is perfect for power girl.

Ridiculous, fun superhero storytelling that never takes itself too seriously.
