The Lady of Linshui is an important work in the study of the feminine in Chinese society. It examines the often overlooked role of women in Chinese shamanic practice. It focusses on the cult of Chen Jinggu in Fujian Province and Taiwan. Baptandier provides a good template for the future study of localized cults in China. She also provides a lot of interesting information on Daosit cosmologies.
