This is one of the few books I’ve seen which supports my philosophy on special education in general and Asperger’s specifically. It was a bit of a relief to realize I’m not the only one out there who doesn’t believe that strict training regimens are appropriate for managing humans, even the difficult ones, and that conformity is not an especially useful goal. And I appreciated the author’s list of criteria for evaluating interventions:

Hooray! Hooray! Finally a book that offers real hope and resources for parents of Autistic children to understand what their child is experiencing, and to make life for themselves and their child easier to manage. Mr. Stillman speaks from experience as a person living with Asperger's Syndrome and as an advocate for those on the spectrum who can't speak for themselves.

I was highly impressed with this book and found the information applicable immediately. The book really made me consider the point of view of the child and I was made aware of mistakes I myself have made. I recommend this book!

I went to see William Stillman speak at a local community college. He has Asperger's, and is an AMAZING speaker. I am excited to read this book by someone who has first-hand knowledge of what the person behind the label is feeling, and what their needs are in order to be successful in their own way.
I haven't actually read it, nor do I plan to at this time. I debated deleting it completely but if someone is lurking and sees the autism shelf... Atleast there will be a list of reading options available.
