So this series just keeps getting more and more intense. And in such unexpected ways. I love it when an author has the ability (and the guts) to slip in a real shocker without compromising her characters or the story as a whole. It was really nice to step back into Mercy's world after reading a less than stellar shifter romance. It was also interesting that this focused on the Fae this time.

I am more pleased than this cat right now!

My thoughts
1. Patricia Briggs' storytelling alone deserves 5 stars. It is done with consummate skill. And discretion too. I had to go back and read the <spoiler>rape scene</spoiler> after the book ended because I completely glossed over it the first time, she'd written it so subtly. I loved the story, and couldn't give it any less than five stars, but there were a few issues, hence the 'with misgivings.'

These books are trashy. Normally, I enjoy them anyway, they are a guilty pleasure. This third book in the Mercedes series has the weakest plot of them all. Not much really happens in it. I can forgive that, since I find the books to be near-romance novel quality. I am having a hard time with this book. I really liked it because it was an easy quick read and the true murderer Mercy was trying to find throughout the whole book totally caught me off guard. What happens to Mercy is something I cannot accept and all I can say is that I am glad there were no details.

I actually read the end of this so frantically that I had to go back and re-read the end to see if I caught everything. I can't remember the last time I had that happen.

My Thoughts

This book was fantastic! Many said it was their favorite in the series, and I have to agree that out of the first 3, this one takes the win.

The title keeps giving the story away. I knew it was going to be about Zee & Mercy was going to come running to the rescue.

Well I was pretty ticked off with this book for various reasons.

This is by far my favorite in the series so far. I don't want to take away from the others, but this book brings Mercy to her knees, and she gets up, dusts herself off and proves that she will always be true to herself. Even if it means not giving up when everyone else does or finding strength in those who love her when she's lost her way. Patricia Briggs has done it again, the third book on the Mercedes Thompson series is as the first two fantastic. Once I begin reading it I couldn't put it down.

At the end of the last book, I was getting a bit concerned that Mercy was just going to end up like Anita Blake: wanted by every male of every species. Luckily, Briggs really knows her stuff and this book shows it.
