So this series just keeps getting more and more intense. And in such unexpected ways. I love it when an author has the ability (and the guts) to slip in a real shocker without compromising her characters or the story as a whole. In a series, that's particularly hard to do without making it seem like a gratuitous plot twist inserted merely to keep the series going. Patricia Briggs has a 7-book deal for her Mercy Thompson series and book three has shown that not only does she know exactly what sh More...

I fucking cried like a big baby made of baby tears and the only down side to this whole novel was the very last sentence. Don't think she was ready for that step AT ALL but still... Someone give me a hug!

It was really nice to step back into Mercy's world after reading a less than stellar shifter romance. It was also interesting that this focused on the Fae this time.

For once, Mercy isn't the cause of the trouble in this book. Well, at least not at first. She gets a call from Zee to go check out the Walla Walla Reservation, or Fairyland as it's commonly known. He wants her to do some sniffing around at some crime scenes to see if she can find something that may have been missed. Merc More...

I am more pleased than this cat right now!

I really am very very satisfied with Patricia Briggs and the way she dealt with this novel. I loved the plot, I loved the action and I just freaking loved Mercy!

I had picked up this series about 2 years ago. That was a time when I was obsessed with the PNR genre, bitten with the Vampire Academy bug you could say. I read so much of PNR that I really wasn’t surprised when I finally got nauseated with it. I hated the b More...

5 stars, with misgivings.

My thoughts
1. Patricia Briggs' storytelling alone deserves 5 stars. It is done with consummate skill. And discretion too. I had to go back and read the <spoiler>rape scene</spoiler> after the book ended because I completely glossed over it the first time, she'd written it so subtly. I loved the story, and couldn't give it any less than five stars, but there were a few issues, hence the 'with misgivings.'

2. Ms. Briggs has slowly been More...

Iron Kissed is yet another great installment in the Mercy Thompson series. The plot was great and I continue to love the cast of characters, even coming to love some of them more than I did before. Mercy...She lives quite the eventful life. I thought for sure that Adam and Samuel were going to annoy the shit out of me in this book competing for Mercy, so I'm glad that was resolved pretty early on. I came to love members of the pack even more with this book, but especially Ben. We learn about his More...

These books are trashy. Normally, I enjoy them anyway, they are a guilty pleasure. This third book in the Mercedes series has the weakest plot of them all. Not much really happens in it. I can forgive that, since I find the books to be near-romance novel quality. The biggest problem I have with it, other than the main character's whining about the decisions of her love life, is the author's inability to write. Oh, Briggs can compose a sentence and her grammar is fine, but the treatment she gives More...

I am having a hard time with this book. I really liked it because it was an easy quick read and the true murderer Mercy was trying to find throughout the whole book totally caught me off guard. What happens to Mercy is something I cannot accept and all I can say is that I am glad there were no details.

The ending has me upset because Mercy has been this really independent woman that will do anything for ANYONE she cares about. Now I have no idea what roll her character will play. More...

I think I just about hyperventilated through the last three chapters of this book.

Excuse me, but I must get this out of my system ---

OMFG!!!

Anyway, this is the third of Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series. Just as the first book was an introduction to the wolves and the second book brought the Vamps to the fore, this one brings the third of the major preternatural "races", the Fae into sharp focus.

Mercy is asked by her friends in the More...

“You keep bothering monsters, Mercy, and someday something is going to eat you.” He sounded calm and cool as he kept his eyes on the fence I’d jumped over. He had a big automatic in one hand - he must carry concealed because I hadn’t notice him holding one when opened the door.
“Oh, I hope not,” I said in between gasps. “I don’t want to be eaten. I’ve been counting on the vampires to kill me first”.

I actually read the end of this so frantically that I had to go back and re-read the end to see if I caught everything. I can't remember the last time I had that happen.

I really like the series and am VERY anxious to find out where the author takes this story next.

This might be my favorite book of all time! Everything about it (plot, characters, romance) was amazing. I love books that make me feel a range of emotions and this did everything from make me laugh to cry.

Oh my God, you guys. Stop the presses! I have figured it out. The sudden, shocking explosion of paranormal romantical urban fantasy written in the first-person on a plucky, mouthy heroin? You wondered why, and now I know.

It's not the blood-tingling appeal of a sexy vampire. Oh no no no. It's much better than that. I mean, this is 2008, for God's sake. We're, like, post feminist, okay? We want books about plucky, smart-mouthed heroins who every man [vampire, werewolf, police officer More...

What can I say? I loved this book! This series just rocks for me and every page is a pleasure. Anyone would want Mercy in their corner! And Adam? Strength and determination with patience and understanding, excellent combo! The Sam / Mercy kink had been breaking my heart but it was expertly handled. And Ben was awesome, just awesome. To take him from a character you curled your lip at in the first book to the one portrayed by the end of this book? Amazing! I will be diving straight into the next b More...

In Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson Series, Book 3), Mercy is called in to help yet another set of magical creatures- the Fae. A murderer is on the loose on the Fae Reservation and the secretive Fae know they must find the murderer quickly or the non-magical press will be breathing down their necks. Hence their call to Mercy- she's got a good nose and a vested interest- her mentor and beloved friend Zee is fae.

When Zee is arrested for the murder- the ante is upped. Mercy must find the tru More...

My Thoughts

This book was fantastic! Many said it was their favorite in the series, and I have to agree that out of the first 3, this one takes the win.

We get a very big dose of fae mythology in this book, and it was great fun to learn more about them and their society. Mercy owes the fae a favor, and it’s called in via her mentor and friend, Zee. Zee needs Mercy to use her nose More...

The title keeps giving the story away. I knew it was going to be about Zee & Mercy was going to come running to the rescue.

Well I was pretty ticked off with this book for various reasons.
**SPOILERS BElOW**

In reading this series, Briggs has wanted us to believe in this love triangle & while reading it I have really gotten the sense that she was avoiding writing intimate scenes by any means possible.

When thinking that I then said to myself: More...

Mercy was at it again: trying to save the day. This time she was trying to aid her friend Zee (a fae who was accused of murder). She was beaten down repeatedly and she got back on her feet as readers would expect. However, the plot took a dark turn at the end, which should have been expected, but I had forgotten to consider the possibility. This book had a fairly low amount of profanity, but I felt it was increased in comparison to the first two books. There was also the uncomfortable issue More...

This is by far my favorite in the series so far. I don't want to take away from the others, but this book brings Mercy to her knees, and she gets up, dusts herself off and proves that she will always be true to herself. Even if it means not giving up when everyone else does or finding strength in those who love her when she's lost her way. Thank you, Ms. Briggs for such an empowering female character that doesn't shy away from the hard stuff, but is still woman enough to get hurt. I'm looking fo More...

Patricia Briggs has done it again, the third book on the Mercedes Thompson series is as the first two fantastic. Once I begin reading it I couldn't put it down.

This book in the series focuses more on the Fae than the vamps and werewolves. It's face paced everything happens within a weeks time.

I enjoy this series, the main character does what she wants, when she wants, makes her own decisions and will not bow to anyone be it Fae, Alpha wolf or Master Vamp, and she takes r More...

At the end of the last book, I was getting a bit concerned that Mercy was just going to end up like Anita Blake: wanted by every male of every species. Luckily, Briggs really knows her stuff and this book shows it.

I am so happy that Briggs isn't afraid to show the fae, werewolves, and vampires as what they are: monsters. I've been getting more and more weary of the angsty but honorable vampires, the beautiful and ethereal elves, and the loyal and playful puppy dogs called werewolves. More...
