A warrior cursed (along with several others) after opening Pandora’s box and bound ever since to a demon, his being Wrath (sort of like a devilish alter ego you can’t ignore)

Recently Aeron has sensed an invisible female presence around him and here we learn that she is in fact an angel-demon assassin sent to kill him. Of course nothing is as it seems with this series and when Aeron confronts this angel, Olivia claims that she means him no harm, that she couldn’t kill him and has in fact fallen. Giving up immortality and her life in the clouds to experience her now earthly life with him. It’s a match made in Heaven/Hell right? What could be easier then a demon lord and a fallen angel hooking up? Throw in Lucifer, Shadow girl and Aeron’s altered little venom spitting girlfriend Legion, more deals and bargains with Greek gods then I could keep track of, a continuing war with the ‘hunters’ and you’ve got yourself the makings of a perfect romance.

This was a great read and an excellent addition to the series as a whole and really is worthy of 5 stars however because I didn’t read Heart of Darkness first which (who knew) contained Lords Of The Underworld 4.5 there were major plot holes and a whole lot of confusion in the beginning chapters along with certain details that were never filled in. For example how and when did one of the immortals get both of his hands cut off?

I just hate it when authors put semi-important details or move along an ongoing series within an anthology. I’ve been burned too many times with them, spending the money to read 75 pages and usually only enjoying or bothering with the one story by the one author. I won‘t be reading HOD on principle alone now. Anyways enough with my rant. Did I mention how frickin sexy this book is?

Yeah sexy and erotic too, that Showalter can sure write a love scene. Aeron as our hero is awesome he's also the one most in harmony with his demon (now) and as the protector, the one that keeps the others safe. Covered in gruesome tattoos from top to bottom he also sports a pair of wings, flying around during battles and in one instance during love making (that was a new one for me, sex while in flight!) And as improbable as it seems his and Olivia’s romance is a perfect match, once the pair get out of the bedroom that is (I just have to say why does Showalter deem it necessary to lock every one of her heroines in a warriors bedroom for a period of time while one or the other recovers and until the warrior and demon both declare “mine” Its done in almost every book and frankly its getting boring.)

Our couple face insurmountable odds with exciting twists, kidnappings, double crossings and in the end the ultimate sacrifice in the name of love. The ending is …well you’ll get your HEA but at what cost?

The Darkest Lie is up next and it has been set up perfectly for Gideon and his long lost----- also because of events in the last couple of chapters many new and exciting doors have been opened up for this series as a whole. Cheers. (less)

Even though Legion was a real pain, she tolerated her as much as she could, because she knew how much Aeron loved her. Olivia was a heroine who brought to mind 1 Corinthians 13, which explains what love is. For Olivia, her love for Aeron wasn't an easy thing. It wasn't simple, but complicated her life, and she knew that she wouldn't have him forever, but she was willing to be with him as long as she could. Truly, she was hesitant to define it as love because she didn't view it as a sacrifice (she was wrong about that). In the end, her love helped to save him. As you can tell, I really loved this heroine.

Aeron had closed his heart off from people, so that he could avoid the pain of loss. To him, dying and having those he loved die was the worst thing possible. He didn't seem to understand that it's more important to live the time you have to the fullest. In some ways, I could understand why he had boxed himself in emotionally. His demon caused him to harm and kill people for their sins, and he had seen so much death. He knew more than anyone just how frail humans were. When Olivia comes along, he does all he can to resist her. But even Wrath, the demon that possesses him, knows how important she was to him. Even though Aeron didn't realize it, his actions showed love. The way that he watches out for Paris, the tenderness and care he shows for Legion. He doesn't want to let Olivia in his heart, but when he does, she becomes so important to him, he's willing to do just about anything for her to be happy. And in the end, his true, deep love for Olivia causes him to make a great sacrifice, one that is very much rewarded by the One True Deity, the god that Olivia loves and serves.

I think the theme of this book was love. You could see this played out through the actions of the various characters. Interestingly, Legion truly believed she loved Aeron, more than Olivia ever could. But her actions showed a very selfish aspect to her love. Olivia, her nemesis, taught her a lesson about what real love was. One that I hope she takes to heart.

This book had some exciting twists and turns. The focus wasn't exactly on the war between the Lords and the Hunters, but on the issues that Aeron and Olivia faced instead. I liked that. And there was an unsuspecting angle that tied into Aeron's relationship with Legion. That was pretty interesting.

I was pretty surprised at how this one ended. I didn't expect things to unfold the way they did. It wasn't quite a cliffhanger, but pretty darn close. Things promise to get very complicated in the forthcoming books. But I have to say, I really did like Aeron and Olivia's happy ending. It was the best one so far--a silver lining to the dark cloud of how things progressed at the climax.

The Darkest Passion is my favorite in this series so far. I loved the romance aspects, and the underlying message about love. I think Olivia was a great heroine. And the love scenes were pretty darn steamy. I thought I liked Aeron in the previous books, but seeing him as the hero in this book showed me more depth to him that made me love him even more.

I will take a short break before reading The Darkest Lie, because I don't want to go too long without more Lords of the Underworld books. These books feed my paranormal endorphins, and my spirits took a downer when this book was over. What will I do when this series ends?(less)

So here it is right in your face, I loved Aeron, this crazy ass man lights my fire, and as this series goes on I just love it more and more. I freaking cried for this book, I felt sad at times, not for the book, but for the characters. They are so energetic and real that I sometimes forget I am reading a book and should get over the heartbreak (easier said than done).

Aeron I have been waiting to finally read his book, and let me say it was no disappointment. Aeron is everything that was portrayed and more, he loves fiercely and hates just as fierce. He lives with guilt and has drawn a conclusion that he deserves nothing good. When he feels an invisible presence tailing him he knows that his time has run out and he is about to be killed, but weeks go by and the presence wont make themselves known. Frustrated and annoyed by this invisible person, Aeron just wants to get it over with, when this very person is keeping away his love and soothing demon Legion. Well he meets his invisible person and it was nothing he expected.

Olivia just got booted from the heavens, and fought her way out of hell, all for the tattooed hottie that gets her blood boiling. Well the reception is somewhat cold, but one thing is clear Aeron wants her and if only, would he listen to his body instead of his head and start trusting her. Olivia knows there is only a matter of time before someone takes over the job she was meant to do and come for Aeron. Olivia is coming to realize she would do anything for Aeron even give up her life.

So let’s talk, this book was feckin sexy! My face fell of a few times cus I found this book the far most erotic of the bunch, there was something very sensual and carnal about it and it just blew my freaking mind. I wanted to hop on Aeron and go for a ride, this man is tortured and all types of good. Plus there was Legion, F.Y.I that bitch be crazy not regular crazy, like demon bitch in hell crazy. This created one hell of a triangle and Olivia managed it like a pro.

Overall, I really liked it and LTU is one of my fave series out there, these men always float my boat. Lysander I want to stroke those golden wings and take him to a new heaven but that’s just me going places I shouldn’t. On that note, Aeron and Olivia were good together, only disappointment was that it just ended, kept flipping the page going WTF “That’s It”.

I didn't like this book as much as the others. I didn't really like Olivia, and Aeron was just a bit "meh" for me. I also didn't feel the chemistry between them I thought it felt a little flat, for me it seemed that Wrath loved her more then Aeron. What I also didn't like was how abruptly it seemed to end, on minute they were fighting the next minute everything was okay and everything resolved.

My only problem with this, was lack of information. Okay, so maybe I shouldn't have started with this, book five in the series, but an introduction describing what happened with Pandora's Box wouldn't go astray, because at the very beginning I was having a bit of trouble understanding what was going on and why. Ok. This one was not as good as the rest. Though I like the characters a lot, there was too much nonsense keeping them apart and a ridiculous HEA. I hope this doesn't become showalter's habit. I loved the book before this one.
More than anything, I hate Legion. I hate her, and have issues with Aeron for not letting her stay in hell. If she ends up as one of the lords HEA's I'll stop reading.

Decided I like this book even less today thn I did yesterday, and took off a star.

Screw Legion.

Another tremendously phenomenal story of love from the Goddess herself – Gena Showalter.
I am addicted to The Lords of the Underworld series and the story of Olivia and Aeron did not disappoint.

A fantastically romantic love story with continuous twists and turns that left me speed reading to the very last page as I couldn’t stand the suspense.
Would love to write more but it is stopping me from starting the next book in the series ;)

Then, she gets a deadline, 14 days to change her mind and become an angel once more. Will she change her mind or will everything she has ever wanted come true.

Aeron is the Keeper of Wrath, he puts others before him. Protects fiercely and loves devotedly. But, he hasn't ever given himself wholey to another person. What's the point they all die anyway or so he thinks.

Kudos! What a terrific installment in the LOTU series! Not even Legions bitchy behavior could make me dislike this book. I loved Aeron and Olivia, and the bombshell at the end! Wow all I can say is Poor Paris. LOTU just gets better with each book. Definitely one of my must buy series.

I'd recommend first reading The Darkest Angel (Lords of the Underworld #4.5) in the Heart of Darkness anthology. It features Gwen's sister Bianca and an angel, Lysander, who is mentioned frequently in this one.

2.5 stars This series is a consistent 2.5 star for me because while I enjoy it and keep coming back to it... it annoys the shit out of me. Lets start at the end. This was kind of bullshit and a total cop out. People die all the freakin' time, why are you so special? (view spoiler)...more I'd recommend first reading The Darkest Angel (Lords of the Underworld #4.5) in the Heart of Darkness anthology. 2.5 stars This series is a consistent 2.5 star for me because while I enjoy it and keep coming back to it... it annoys the shit out of me. Lets start at the end. That's kind of a big deal. (view spoiler)

OK, the next reason this book (and series in general) annoys me: When I get a sneak peak at the next books couple in the current book, I'm always super intrigued, but then they add all this extra drama and stupefy it and it's just never as good as I though it would be. Case in point, Legion. I was so excited to see how Aeron would balance Olivia and Legion and how that whole tug-of-war would play out. While Legion was such a HUGE part of Aeron's life, she wasn't even in most of the book, with him not even giving her a seconds thought. Then when she is, she's a raging psycho. I get that she's a demon, and she's viscous and loves Aeron and thinks he should be hers. But I dunno she just totally sucked, and even implied she'd let his fiends die at one point (view spoiler). They turned her into some flat demonic bore. So lame.

And just a general problem with PNR (or bad ones anyway) is that everything is so black and white. I get that you would "do anything for your woman" and that's great, but just stupid stuff (view spoiler) that is so short-sighted and dramatic it makes me wonder how these guys survived for centuries.

OK, done ranting. Despite all my smack talk I do plan to continue with the series, but I just need a break because they get a little repetitive and I think I'll enjoy it more if I come back after a couple months.(less)

A good book makes you feel a number of emotions, such as happiness, sadness, anger and joy. If you don’t feel anything while reading a book, then you clearly aren’t connected to the characters. Reading this series is like looking into the lives of friends. Each one I dearly care about and I wish a happily-ever-after. Their emotions and actions affect me to endless levels. I just can’t get enough.

Olivia, the lead female, amused me so much. She made Aeron hers even before she fell from the clouds. She expressed such determination and perseverance. Aeron was her man, she continually made that very clear, even if he was resisting her. The scene where she tried to see him naked, but failed horribly, was just hilarious.

She gave everything up for a man; her immortality, her wings and her cloud. This is something that would be considered stupid, but instead of destroying herself by killing Aeron, she actually saved herself. Even though she was unsure how he felt about her, she knew they were soul mates. She stayed strong until the very end, even at the possibility of Aeron betraying her.

I absolutely loved Legion when she was introduced, but that love died in this book. No longer was she the little adorable demon, but a scheming little girl that I wanted to slap. Perhaps that is too harsh, as she loved Aeron from the start. She just couldn’t get it into her head Aeron thought of her as a daughter, not a lover.

Aeron had always been a sexy one, with his tattoos and wings, but he was always so hard and closed off. Understandable, taking into consideration his demon can take over him often and drive him to a bloodlust that would never be sated. In this book we see a different Aeron. We see, more in depth, his affection for Legion and his friends. He did a good job resisting Olivia, but of course he couldn’t have kept that up.

The love scenes were hot and didn’t have much of the babble that usually accompanies them. Aeron was just... (drool). I was disappointed he lost all his tattoo's in the end. I really loved them.

And Scarlet? Oh, I can’t wait to read the next. Another female Lord, yum!

Aeron thinks it a waist of time humans were expendable and they were good for nothing else except to lay with. He looked for females that Paris just turned down, when he sees a woman disappear into thin air. Both Paris and Aeron go after her only to find nothing. Then they split up and thats when she appears. Aeron's demon immediately wants to punish her for all the wrong she has done. But then he finds out that he isn't dealing with just any woman but a demon possessed woman. The woman's name is Scarlet and she is being possessed by the demon of Nightmares. She escapes Aeron, then Paris and Aeron go back to the fortress to find that the voice who has been following Aeron has come in the form of a woman. Her name is Olivia and she is a fallen Angel, the reason she fell is because she didn't want to kill Aeron. Which is what the Angel High Council was asking of her. In Olivia's fight to reach Aeron, she is tortured by demons in hell and claws her way out of the dirt into Aeron's hands. Aeron immediately takes a dislike to her and tells her that he is just going to dump her somewhere because she can't live with him. But try as he might he can't get rid of her because Olivia has secret information that she is willing to give him for kisses. And those kisses are affecting him so much that he no longer knows where to turn. So he goes to see his daughter Legion a demon whom he saved and whom has to die alone with him. When Legion finds out that Aeron is keeping an Angel in the fortress and that Aeron likes her she leaves to go try and kill her out of a jealous rage. While in another part of the world his friends are trying to find the last of the items to destroy Pandora's Box. At the fortress Legion attacks Olivia and two others that live there. But Aeron saves them all and punishes her for it, his demon wants to kill her for touching his angel. As the trials get harder Aeron finds out what Olivia really did for him. What she gave up for him like her voice of truth and her wings. When they capture Nightmare Aeron takes a bullet filled with hells waters and gets taken back to the fortress, Lysander an angel gave Olivia the waters of heaven to give to Aeron and his demon. The trials get even harder Aeron realizes that he can't fight his feelings much longer. What really got him pisses what that when Legion came back she turned human right in front of his eyes. Legion didn't care that she was week for the moment but she jumped right in and said can we have sex? She didn't care that she had just made a deal with the devil himself.Aeron was blown away by her audacity that he just said to stay put because he was going to do battle with their enemy the Hunters. There with his fellow demon possessed warriors they destroyed the enemy. Aeron was injured and brought back to the fortress. Only to find Olivia gone and Legion lying about it. When he reviewed the tapes of the security camera he found that she had fallen over the balcony. And Aeron went straight to Legion and told her to tell the truth and to cut the bull shit. Legion told Aeron that Gallen possessed by the demon of hope had taken Olivia. Olivia was being tortured for information on the High Lords which is what they called themselves. In the end of the torture a boy helped her escape with the cloak of invisibility. Aeron eventually found her and brought him home. After he gave her some of the heaven water she healed right up and they made frantic love. And then came Lysander the angel and took Aeron's head in order for him to save everyone he loved. Olivia took back her wings and petitioned the Angel High Council for Aeron's life. While Aeron got to see his old friend Baden the former carrier of the demon of distrust. When Olivia came to him she told him the good news, Baden wanted to go with them but Olivia told him that it couldn't be done. Olivia also told Aeron that the new host of Wrath was Paris's love Sienna whom they thought dead only to find out that Cronus had her saved. Not yet anyways. So Olivia and Aeron professed their love for each other and went home to their family and friends to start his new life as an immortal with out the demon of Wrath.(less)

I am so frustrated with this author. I am starting to think the only good book in this series (The Darkest Kiss) was an accident. The characters are always in instant lust that after 2 days they call love. There is so much internal monologue about wanting to shag each other. I get it already.

The hunters, lead by the demon possessed Galen, are gaining ground against the Lords. Aeron must continue his fight against his sworn enemies as well as the fend off unwanted sexual advances from his female demon, while trying to push Olivia away. Aeron must decide to listen to his head and send Olivia back from where she came from or listen to his heart and demon and claim Olivia as his own. Regardless of his decision, Olivia will not be the last sent to take his head.

This was one of the more emotional Lords of the Underworld books, at least it was for me. Aeron has been a favorite of mine for a while because of the strong bond and loyalty he has towards the other Lords and I really do want to see him happy with Olivia. But he believes the fewer people he cares for, the fewer people he has to worry about saving. He makes excuses for why he can't be with Olivia but she isn't backing down. One of my favorite qualities in Olivia is her determination. She gave up her immortality and her wings to be with Aeron and like hell is she just going to let him push her out the door. She does try to put it off as just sex which bugged me because it was obvious to everyone she isn't the just sex type. Aeron isn't the only opposition to them being together though.

His little demon Legion is not going to stand for an Angel coming in and taking her Aeron away even though he only loves her like a daughter and nothing else. Even when she is not present, Aeron uses her as an excuse to why Olivia needs to leave and does she ever cause a huge problem of her own involving the Dark Prince himself. In a way I do feel bad for Legion. She got her signals crossed with Aeron and just wants to be loved. Her jealous fits and childish games with Olivia made me want to shake her and tell her to grow up.

There were a lot of interesting things happening with the hunters. You find out that the Lords aren't the only ones who have a Titan helping them and Galen decided to handle the warriors in a different are more terrifying way that could give him a army of immortals. The enemies have gotten stronger in this book and it makes you wonder what else are they hiding up their sleeves. I know this sounds a little odd but I'm happy with the change. What fun would is it to read a story where the good guys always defeat the bad with ease? I think it takes the story to a whole new level and keeps it new and interesting.

Paris, who also has been one of my favorites since the beginning, is still morning the loss of Sienna. For those who read Into The Dark you know that Cronus has been keeping Sienna close to him and in The Darkest Passion you find out what his plans are for her. Poor Paris has only begun to hurt. Strider, whose book is next in the series, has some page time and you also get to meet Scarlet, a female from his past that he has no memory of but claims to be his wife. That was one of the several twists in this book that I didn't see coming.

The Darkest Passion is a great addition to an already wonderful series. It has everything you want in a book. Comedy, suspense, a love story (not the sappy kind either), twists you didn't see coming and action. I love that there isn't just vampires or warriors in this series. Even though it does lean heavily toward Greek Mythology (which is my favorite part), there is a bit of everything in it for just about anyone's taste genres. Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld is one of my favorite series and she definitely did not disappoint with her latest installment.

After the last couple of bad eggs, I told myself I was going to give up on this series. Yet here I am reviewing the 5th book. And I know exactly why I went and read it; When I first got into Paranormal Romance, and got completely addicted to the genre. The Lords of the Underworld was one of the first series I got hooked on. And in Book 1:The Darkest Night, Aeron was my favourite secondary character. So now that we're on book 5 (not counting all the inbetween short stories), and it's finally Aero...more After the last couple of bad eggs, I told myself I was going to give up on this series. Yet here I am reviewing the 5th book. And I know exactly why I went and read it; When I first got into Paranormal Romance, and got completely addicted to the genre. The Lords of the Underworld was one of the first series I got hooked on. And in Book 1:The Darkest Night, Aeron was my favourite secondary character. So now that we're on book 5 (not counting all the inbetween short stories), and it's finally Aeron's story, I decide to cave in and read it.

Fortunately it wasn't actually quite as bad as the previous ones.

Aeron is the keeper of the demon Wrath, which means that he witnesses visions of people's sins, and is compelled to enact punishment upon them in keeping with the manner of their sins. So he's the one that murders the murderers, beats up the wife-beaters and tortures the psychopaths. (I'm not sure if he ever had to rape a rapist, luckily that never came up). To remind himself of all the horrific acts he's been forced to commit, he's had them tattooed over every inch of his body. He has violet eyes (like his brother Maddox), and he is rarity among the demon-keepers in that he has wings.

Olivia is an Angel who has been charged with killing Aeron, as punishment for all the atrocities he's commited. (Which I find difficult to get my head around considering he only enacts punishment upon bad people, but then I suppose Angels think they have a monopoly on divine justice). Olivia has spent a long time secretly observing Aeron, and grown quite attatched to him, so she refuses to kill him. She ends up having her wings removed and falling to earth in order to pursue him as a mortal. But if she won't kill him, you can bet that some other Angel has already been charged with the duty.

Yet again, I find myself somewhat disappointed in a series that doesn't live up to my expectations. As I was writing out the little summary, I found myself thinking 'Wow this sounds good, why isn't it this good?' I just think, perhaps Gena Showalter's writing isn't quite up to doing justice to her own ideas. Which is probably cruel of my to say so, but I'm sorry it's just how I feel.

Although there is a marked improvement over the last book. I think it's mainly because Olivia is less annoying character than say Bianka the harpy. She's not preoccupied with texting or constantly talking like a dumb teenage bimbo. Yet at one point she does go for a slutty makeover. Urgh.

Originally in the first book Aeron was also described as having eyebrow piercings, unfortunately no piercings mentioned in this novel, not sure where they're supposed to have gone. Call me shallow, but thats a chunk of Aeron's appeal lost in writers limbo.

One of the things that does irritate me is that despite being somewhat individual to begin with, Gena Showalter's characters all end up exactly the same once they're having sex. Every female and every male are alike once they get down to it, and all characterisation is just out the window. And why do all her female characters start thrashing their heads around when they're having sex? It's like they've got epilepsy. not sexy.

In conclusion. Not as bad as some of the others. But oh how do I wish the writing was as good as the concept. I wonder if I can stop myself from reading the next one..

Will Aeron and Olivia submit to the passion brewing between them like both so desperately want or will both commit the ultimate sacrifice to save each other from destruction?

Okay, a lot going on in this novel and to be honest it served as a major distraction from the potential for a passionate romance between Aeron and Olivia. There was so much going on I simply couldn’t get to know the h/h like I need to for me to really fall for book. Much of how Olivia fell in love with Aaron was relegated to back story- she watched him from the heavens for quite some time before she “fell” to be with him, and that we didn’t see, but were told about it. Still, the other stuff going on was important for the over arching story- so I can’t completely fault Showalter for wanting it in. (How this book ends is actually very important to other characters coming up!) I just wish we could have had more depth from Aeron & Olivia.

Oh and another thing that *really* bugged me, was Aeron’s little demon friend Legion. She was mean and spiteful and not likable at all… I know, I know, she’s a demon, Zeek, its in her nature, but it just made me wonder why Aeron preferred her all the time? I simply didn’t get it and in the end she just annoyed the crap out of me. ::shrug::

So, whereas I’m decidedly less than enthusiastic about this entry into the Lords of the Underworld series, it is important to the totality of it and shouldn’t be missed.

The Darkest Passions left me eager to read the next installment, The Darkest Lie, which comes out next week! The first three books of this series was very good, not great, in my opinion. But throughout the series I have slowly come to like the Lords and since reading The Darkest Whisper and now The Darkest Passion I am really engrossed in this series. The series has gotten so much better and this current installment was just as good as the last!

Talk about a lot of life and death drama going on in one novel! I was drawn into the story immediately and the suspense lasted until the final pages. Showalter blends a fantastic sense of humor into the heat and excitement of her plots. When I sit and read one of the Lords of the Underworld books, I grin and giggle the whole time because they are just so fun to read. There really is no other word that can better describe my reading experience for this series than fun. The continuing plot involving the Hunters that is woven into every novel progressed wonderfully in The Darkest Passion. There were some significant and HIGHLY unexpected revelations that added many new layers to the already sumptuous plot. The whole Lords of the Underworld universe seems much lusher after this installment because of the many new directions the series can take. Showalter creatively blends Greek mythology into the series, and this one seemed particularly rich in it. I find that the inclusion of certain figures from Greek mythology very intriguing as it gives the series something unique and enthralling.

Gena Showalter did a fabulous job with the characters in The Darkest Passion. I have to admit that Olivia is now tied with Anya for my favorite heroine, not that I haven’t liked every one of the heroines so far. Showalter does a wonderful job of creating likeable, sassy heroines, and without them the novels would lose that special something that makes them so fun to read. Olivia is the epitome of warmth, purity, and innocence with a delightful confident, aggressive and cheeky streak. Her personality was the perfect contrast to Aeron’s cold distance, anger, and feelings shame/unworthiness. There was a lot of growth and transformation among the characters. There were also some sneak peeks into the minds of side characters in this novel. Fans of Legion, Strider, and Gideon will be entertained. Gideon actually was involved in a pretty good subplot that laid the foundation for his novel, The Darkest Lie.

There is a pretty high heat factor in The Darkest Passion, so the title does not deceive. All of the Lords are hunky, but Aeron captures that dangerous bad boy appeal with his violent tattoos and intense eyes. Showalter certainly knows how to write a good steamy scene! With Olivia being such a sweet, pure character, there was a whole different vibe to the intimate moments than the previous novels had. I thought it was really well done. There was also a lot of tenderness and internal conflict over feelings of fondness and possibly love that romance fans will revel in. The combination of passion and tenderness is perfectly balanced.

The Lords of the Underworld series is one that should be read in the correct order. If you’ve read the first 4 books in the series, I highly recommend The Darkest Passion. If you haven’t, start with The Darkest Night and work your way up. It’s a fabulous series and all paranormal romance fans should give it a try!

Not only is he totally sexy, intelligent, honest, loyal, but that sacrifice he makes at the end for Olivia and Legion? It made me cry and love him all the more. He is such a sweetheart. The only thing I didn't like about the sacrifice was that Aeron lost Wrath, his wings and tattoos. Wow. Just wow. I love Aeron but I suspected I would. I think these books do improve though I'm not sure if it is enough to actually recommend the series. Still Aeron being possessed by the demon of Wrath was a great story. Especially since his love interest is an honest to goodness Angel.

Olivia knew what she asked for when she went to the heavenly High Counsel and asked to be relieved of her duty as a Warrior Angel. Living most of her existence as a joy-bringer, Olivia was not ready when her first duty as a Warrior Angel was to kill the keeper of the demon Wrath, Lord Aeron. She knew his sin of bringing the demon Legion from hell was not meant to be a threat to humanity, but his breaking of the rules signed his death warrant with the Elite Seven. The man she watched was nothing like the Angels of her realm; he was strong, tattooed and held within him the demon Wrath and as such had killed many along the way. When she reveals she is an angel, or rather a fallen angel, he must make the right decision as to what would be the best for them all.

I loved this book. The excitement Gena delivered throughout carried through to a sensational and OMG ending for this couple. I can’t wait to find out what happens to these characters as they continue the fight with the Hunters. With the addition of a few new players into the game it will continue to be a Must Be Bought series for me. I highly recommend this book as a fantastic read for anyone with a taste for sexy warrior men who love, laugh and sacrifice over and over for the women and friends in their lives.

How crazy and complicated can this plot get? Sometimes I feel like that’s what Gena Showalter asks herself when she’s writing these books. Sometimes, I have trouble. I don’t even try to guess where things are going because I’ll never be right. It’s never obvious. And I’m always on the brink of despair for the couple in each novel toward the end. She stacks those odds so high against them that I can never see how it will work out. Then she miraculously pulls the solution out of freaking nowhere. No one is that lucky, not even gorgeous, soul-tortured immortals. Nevertheless, I keep listening because I need to know what happens next. If there’s one thing this author can pull off, it’s a hook.

There’s not much depth to the characters. Then again, who am I to make a statement like that about immortal lords who are trapped in their own bodies with demons that compel them to act against their wills? I guess it’s difficult to have any realistic depth when you’re in that kind of situation. They do develop a little though. Aeron has never understood humans and their blase acceptance of their own deaths. How could they act normal when they had so little time? When he’s standing at death’s door, he starts to understand. Olivia, a joy bringing angel, decides she wants to experience what it’s like to be human with Aeron, she finds true joy in his arms. It’s not much, but it’s enough considering the genre.

If there is one definite thing I don’t like about this series it’s some of the turns of phrase Gena Showalter uses. Sometimes, I’m thinking “who the hell talks like that?” Some of it just sounds so… immature. It’s distracting and I get disconnected from the characters for a short time. It’s something I’m choosing to overlook for the sake of knowing what the heck happens next!

Max Bellmore does his job pretty well again. He could be a little more consitent. Sometimes names are pronounced a little differently and every now and then character voices change. For the most part he does really well though. His voices for Torin, Lucien, and Sabin are really distinguishable. That’s pretty nice.
