At first I thought, "this can't be as good as The Monkey Wars and Song of Napalm." But then I would read a poem like "Breakdown" or "Shelter" or "They Name Heaven", or a line like "the moon who will no longer/ let us understand each other" and "from the mother's legs/ we are dropped into fire" and be like, "Holy Shit, Bruce Weigl, you fucking knock my socks off!

I'm at a bit of a loss for what to say about this one. While I felt that there were many stand out poems (What Saves Us and May probably being my two favorites), I was left a little underwhelmed overall.

It could just be that so many people had recommended this book to me. I may have gone into it being a little overhyped.

"Say it clearly and you make it beautiful, no matter what."

One of the most important books to my own development as a poet. Thanks, Bruce.
