Once again, Ira Levin turns on the suspense and sets the creepy stage!

Without giving anything away, all I can say is that VERONICA'S ROOM has the ambiance of 1935 and one hell of a twisted plot as a good deed turns into a living 1973.

Super quick read with a very dark ending. ECK!

After, "Perfect Day" I wanted to read more Ira Levin, and found this at the library. It is a script for a stage play. I never read scripts, but this one drew me in immediately. The reader knows something sinister is going on, but has no idea what, when an older couple meet a younger couple in a diner and are startled at the girl's resemblance to the long-dead daughter of their employer. It's a quick, fun read. I'd recommend it.

I read this play because I love plays and also because The Weinstein Company is making a movie version, and I am interested in seeing that.

It is totally twisted! Quick read.

I recently saw a friend of mine in this play and was so blown away by the story! I had read and loved Ira Levin's Rosemary's Baby many years ago and wasn't surprised by how warped it was! I borrowed the play from him and couldn't put it down. Well worth the read!

I've long been a fan of Ira Levin, based on my affection for Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives. Veronica's Room: A Melodrama is every bit the equal of those, and shares many characteristics with them. This is dark material; lots of game playing, duplicity and a sinister, creepy foreboding. There are a number of stunning surprises. This was well reviewed when it opened on Broadway in 1973 with Eileen Heckart and Arthur Kennedy. Why it was never filmed is strange, considering the staggering s ...more

Veronica's Room is a masterful work of suspense and horror. I'm still chilled to my bones by it. Like other similar works from the 60s and 70s (think Hitchcock's Psycho) it follows a structure in which the first act is slow with a feeling that something terrible is around the corner and when that thing comes in the second act it's more disturbing than you could have imagined. It is executed incredibly well here and doesn't feel outdated at all despite being more than 40 years old. The only reaso ...more
Oh. My. God.

Once again, Ira Levin blows my mind. I really had no expectations going into this play, other than that it would be creepy and well plotted; it delivers that and more! It kept me engaged and guessing the entire time. There's very little I can say about this without giving anything away, but if you're a fan of Levin's novels, or just scary stuff in general, I urge you to pick this up. You can blow through it in no time, and you'll be glad you did.

Great plot, but by the time you really understand what's going on with the characters they are a little too awful to feel any sympathy for. Levin is really good at schemes and conspiracies; Veronica's Room works really well as a thriller, with just enough twists and turns for suspense, and it's quicker and not as convoluted as Deathtrap.

No spoilers, but this was pretty darn snazzy. I came at this with no preconceived ideas about it and was pleasantly surprised by the complications presented. There's something here that I'd normally give a -1 star to, but it works in context of a horror/ ghost story.

Perfection. Levin is great - lots of build-up with twist-y turns at the end. Some fun roles, especially for the women. Only drawback is a little repetitive - pace and direction are key. 4.5 - 5 stars

At first, I thought this was going to be a good old-fashioned mystery, but eventually I discovered its intensity and disturbing climax and conclusion. It's a good read and would be a chanllenging play for the actors (there are only four characters).

I stared in this play in 2005 as the main girl and loved it. Dark and nuanced, just as you would expect from Levin.

Interesting, reminded me of a twilight zone episode. The ending had a 1973 feel to it of whats actually going on here?!
