If you look at Elizabeth's brief biography in any of her books, then having read this one I am guessing it's loosely based on Ms. Waite's own life story! It takes us from the 10 year old Lizzie Collins who is a spirited young girl who does well enough to go to private school and survives the War after a few narrow escapes, then takes a job working as a bus conductress and marries her sweetheart. Her husband Charlie is full of schemes and bright ideas, and mainly the book features how Lizzie grow...more

This is the second book by this author that I have read and this was her first published novel. She started writing when she was 70 so she hasn't done too badly as her books are popular here in England.
