In his "New York Times"-bestselling novel "Something on the Side," Weber introduced readers to the Big Girls Book Club. In this fast-paced follow-up, the BGBC has a new chapter, but the biggest drama isn't between the pages, it's among the members themselves.

This installment picks back up with sisters Egypt and Isis and the newest chapter of The Big Girls Book Club in Richmond, Virginia. Egypt's marriage to Rashad is on the rocks after struggling unsuccessfully to have a child of their own. After discovering Egypt is barren they choose a traditional surrogacy route, which entails inseminating a woman with Rashad's sperm and then having Lorraine adopt the baby. Subsequent to their prospective surrogate backing out of the arrangement and Egypt's best ...more

Let me first explain two things before writing this review: I was betwixed and between with do I read "Something on the Side" first or this one. "Big Girls Do Cry" won only because this is our BOTM discussion for April. It's a good thing this book is more of a companion book than a sequel or I would've been lost. Secondly I'm not into drama; however if it's done with believable characters' and situations I can stomach it because drama truly is a part of life. But this book wa...more

This was my first time reading one of Mr. Weber's books. I really enjoyed this book for the most part, with scheming Isis secretly plotting to break up her sister's marriage, tower of strength Lorraine debating her marriage and player Jerome dealing with a stalker. Mr. Weber certainly knows how to build up the plots. The problem I had, though, were the resolutions. I think Mr. Weber got tired and just gave up. None of the antagonists got his/her comeuppance. I was particularly looking forward to...more

“Big Girls Do Cry” by Carl Weber was a drama-filled book that I enjoyed as much as his book “The First Lady.” The book followed the lives of several friends who were going through it in their personal lives. There were sisters Isis and Egypt. Egypt was married to Isis old boyfriend but Isis seemed to still have feelings for him. Despite this, and Isis past history, Egypt decides to ask Isis to be a surrogate for her and Rashad, the husband/ex-boyfriend. Then there was Lorraine, who is a bus...more

I really enjoyed this book it was fully of drama!!! The characters were exciting and kept you wanting to read more. I really felt sorry for Isis and I know I wouldn't have been able to be a surrogate not under those circumstances—knowing the history between Rashad and her. Poor Jerome—don't want to say he got what he deserve, because in his mind he probably really was thinking it was for the best what he had done to Loraine, but he really should be more careful with the way is do business. Go...more

This book is the sequel to Weber's the best selling "Something on the Side." It takes place in Virginia where Egypt opens up a second chapter of the book club she was in while she lived in New York. Isis, her scheming, (possibly mentally ill) sister moves in with her while she gets on her feet. We are also introduced to two new members, Lorraine, head of the PR firm where Egypt works and Jerome her assistant. Of all the plots in the storyline, I think Isis had the best one--just s...more

Anyone who knows me- knows that I'm not a fan of Urban novels. I can really only get through one or two a year. On the word of Ms. Kym I decided to give this one a try. Oh she raved on and on about how this one was sooo good- so I decided to read one or two chapters just so I could say, "I gave it a try gurl but it's just not my thang!"- and hand the book right back to her- but she was right. It was light, enjoyable and well written. It's actually just what I needed to break up some of...more

I always look for a point in a book when I don't want to stop reading it, and I reached that point at around chapter four or five in this book. Anytime the characters can evoke emotions in you, the author has done their job, and Mr. Weber did something here because I did NOT like Isis and I wished I had a man like Michael. :) Definitely a book I'll read again, and I'm looking forward to reading the follow-up, 'Torn Between Two Lovers.' It really inspired me to get to writing, which is one of the...more

This novel is supposed to be the sequel to SOMETHING ON THE SIDE. The novel follows the story of two members of the Big Girls Book Club who move to VA and start a new chapter of the BGBC. Isis and Egypt, sisters, move to VA to escape the drama they found in NY. However, the drama follows them to VA making it impossible to begin their new lives. Egypt is now married to her sister, Isis's, ex-fiance. Isis is still in love with her ex, even though she gave her sister her begrudging blessing. ...more

this is a book that i will forever cherish like my bible...it took me to a place that was way too real like my life and i was like wow!!!! the characters seemed real or reminded me of someone i knew that was going through a similar situation or benn through it. the crazy chic that was suppose to be pregnant with her sisters husband baby been there and done that... i wanted to whopp that chic in the book and for a minute i had to realize it was a book. a great read for a serious reader

I'm a Carl Weber fan. I truly enjoy his style of writing. This book was actually pretty good, until the end. There were main characters of Isis, Egypt, Rashad, Lorraine, Leon, and Jerome. They all had really good story lines. As the story neared the end, I feel like Mr Weber rushed to get an ending. The ending threw me for a loop and wasn't played out very well. I have entirely too many questions and the book is over.

Give it up for the big girls! It's about time stories focus on women with some meat on their bones. Weber hit this one out the park. I loved the characters and the drama. All types of relationships - friends, siblings, homosexuals, and let-go-of-my-man. Now I can't wait to get the sequel, Torn Between Two Lovers, quick enough. Renewed Weber fan...why did I stay away for so long? Doesn't matter much cause I'm back...Winning with Weber Fiction!

I was really excited about this book especially after reading Something on the Side which is something like a part one to this book. I love Carl Weber and the way he writes his it really puts in to the mind set of the characters. This book was a really good one and I would reccommend this book to anyone but first I think you should read somwthing on the side.

Not my favorite Carl Weber-by far-but I'm not completely giving up on him. There was a lot of hype, a lot of build-up to these climax's that weren't resolved in the end. A tad disappointing, this one was. This was almost too much drama and too much soap opera for me. But I'm still gonna read So You Call Yourself A Man and give Weber a chance to redeem himself.

It was a disappointment. Mediocre at best. Why do big girls have to be seen as whores anyways? Definitely a page turner, because I wanted to see what happened in the end. The ending felt forced and choppy not as smooth as the rest of the book. Maybe I'll have to read something else to like this author but I doubt it.

I love Carl Weber books, but this one was just okay for me. I like how he uses a different POV for each chapter to build suspense, but in this book that got annoying. I felt like I was standing on a ledge ready to jump and although the book didn't push me, it didn't convince me to live either.

Carl Webber did his thing with this book way to go that the way to represent Queens. The book was good it tell you keep a eye on your best friend cause they your bestfriend may be the one that stab you in the back. I really didnt like the way it ended because it never say what happen with Isis and Tony and the baby. I cant wait till I get Torn Between Two Lovers

This book was one of the longest books I have read. I chose this book because I really liked the book Something On The Side by Carl Weber. I thought this book was good, but I expected a little more.

Carl Weber always brings comedy with lots of expected drama. Much of the main characters' antics were far fetched but it was a great read and a good audio book to pass time during my long commute.

had no idea it was the second book so read it 1st it was a good 1 but once i started the 1st book i couldn't gt passed the 1st few chapters i guess cause i already knew hw it was going to end

Good soap opera style read ... fast paced, devilish divas, romance gone awry, cussing, fussing and good friends trying to move on, achieve goals and deal with relationships. Weber will always deliver interest and drama.

I really loved this book. It was full of twists and turns. I read "Something on the Side" and I definitely believe this is a sequel and not a companion. I cannot wait for the sequel to this one

The sequel to "Something on the Side" left me hanging! Now I have to wait til the end of August to know the rest. This was a "C" compared to Something on the Side.
