Nathaniel “Nate” Thicke is a preaching prodigy. At only twenty-eight years old, he’s the senior pastor of The Gospel Truth Church. In addition to carrying on the preaching tradition begun by his great-grandfather, Nate is also just plain carrying on, wherever the spirit—and the flesh—lead him. And when it leads him to three women from the same family, bickering and backsta ...more

I will admit that at the beginning of the book, I just couldn't stomach it; You got this 12 year old whose minister has fondled her and she goes to her mother who not only says it's cool but that she's special and honored and showed her scriptures about it. saying that it's alright for a man of God to cover his female flock; I'm going to admit, I was ready to throw the book in the garbage but I have enjoyed every one of Ms Lovely's previous books and felt the need to keep on moving. I will admit ...more

3.5 This is an old review I wrote upon completion. The book was well written. The story was peculiar and intriguing and held my attention. It was not completely predictable and did have some twists. The twists were not majorly shocking but added to the success of the storyline. The writer uses profanity. It is not in abundance and it is not overwhelming which often times is the case with many novels. The profanity that is used is harsh and sort of uncomfortable seeing that the author portrays mu ...more

What a hot buttery mess! This book was straight nasty. Spiritual covering...they were so wrong for that. I give it a 3 because the author does have a writing talent but the story was trifling. I have never heard of a real preacher having a non-stop line of hos. What was wrong with these women...sharing a man. I am happy for Simone and Destiny. Anne and Verniece are nasty and trifling...straight gross. I hope Jennifer has changed her ways. I'm not reading anymore of Lutisha Lovely's books unless ...more
African Americans on the Move Book Club
When opening this book it was hard to see where it was going. I was very distracted by a 28 year old man professing his love for a 16 year old. Made me cringe. I quickly began to get over that hurdle and trust me when I say do not let that detour you form the juiciness of this book. This is one of Lutisha Lovely’s best books yet. It seems she keeps getting better and better and continues to be my favorite. The story starts off about a man who leads a church starting from his very young 20s. He h ...more

Headline: But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself. (NIV, Proverbs 6:32)

Ms. Lovely has written a disturbing account of what goes on at a fictional church of Gospel Truth in Palatine, Texas. Behind the scenes of the church you will find some of the most unbelievable situations but this is our America.

First the reader is privileged to see generations of women giving themselves sexually to the Reverend of the church under the biblical term of “cover”. Reveren

I thought the beginning of the book was very strange. Why were a mother and her daughter considering themselves chosen to sleep with the same man? And why did their women ancestors and the men of ancestors of the pastor also sleep together? Why did this man want to sleep with and marry the 16 year old granddaughter? It made me wonder about how religious pedophiles must deceive their victims. The guy is a pastor who considers it spiritual covering to sleep with not just that generation but every w ...more

OK!! Great book. Not so sure if it is in my Christian Fiction place, but it had a good message. It has some wordly conversations which are not uncommon, but it caught me a little off guard. The message of what I needed to hear was clear. So for me I got the intended meaning. For some others if you struggle to hear curse words or read them well this might not be the book for you. If that's not your issue then great story. The Pastor Reverand Nathaniel THICKE has been covering the single ladies in ...more

I did not enjoys this book much for these reason. The slackness/child abuse was instigated by the oh so many great grandfather Elijah - just because he couldn't marry the woman he wanted. He was never remorseful about starting this curse, even to the day he died. Seemed like Lutishia tried to justify the slackness/prostitution/child abuse, by some lame love story surrounding Elijah and Sadie. Makes you what to read the book to find out what slackness :). Having finished the book, Lutishia came ac ...more

Lutisha Lovely has done it again. The very first time I read one of her books was in a book that carried to other stories and it was fantastic. This is the first book I have read from the Hallelujah series and I think the others will be just as great and just as well written as the others.

This book really lived up to its title. I expected drama but this was on a whole other level. The Noble's & the Thicke's were destined to be together & eventually they truly did, its just the way they went about it that threw me, whew!!! Morally, this book threw me for a loop, I was contemplating on even finishing it, because Ive never read anything so strange. A mother justifying and consenting to underage sex, a pastor of a church "covering" his flock wth?? like I said it was strange.. ...more

Pastor Nathaniel Thicke is messing around with three women from the same family. The grandmother, a mother and a granddaughter. Always something going on with these pastor's in her books! She keeps it interesting and lively in all her books and let's you see what really goes on behind the doors of the church!! And it is always something hot and scandalous! Read: June 2010

This book has some crazy stuff going on. I wonder where Lovely got the inspiration to write this book. I sure hope that this book is not based on someone she knows. It is a good read but the characters are CRAZY! The child abuse aspect and concubine attitudes in this book really bothered me.

Lutisha,

The story was good enough to hold my interest but the characters were not merely ignorant, they were profoundly ignorant. The final chapters tried to justify their ignorance but was a weak attempt at doing so.

Stories such as these really occur in the church. More proof that I'd rather be single than lusting after an unattainable man.
