Shelves: history, civil-war
Herdegen is a great writer and completely in love with Wisconsin troops during the Civil War. Problem is, he's too in love with them and cannot handle the topic objectively. Even though this is one of his early works, he covers the same topic with a better sense of balance in some of his later publications. You can skip this one and go right on to some of his Iron Brigade histories and get the same story. He's written much better stuff lately anyway.
