This is a fun book with an interesting narrative. Cass and Max-Ernest are young adults who have recently been involved with a secret society, the details of which are located in the previous book in the series. Although you do miss out on some details of the protagonists, you could read this book without having read the previous installment, THE NAME OF THIS BOOK IS SECRET.

Twelve-year-old Cass is a survivalist. Her room is decorated with clippings about natural disasters and potential disasters so she will be prepared for the possibility. She made a toy monster for herself after dreaming about a strange creature. The monster is a troll-like doll made from scraps of socks, fabric and shoe tongues. She carries the "sock monster" everywhere.
Cass dreams she's in a graveyard with eerie sounds. She awakens to her mother calling her for school. Cass and her best friend,...more

Beware! Danger lies in this book if you read it. If you think that I'm going to tell you about the sequel to "The Name of this Book is Secret", you are w-r-o-n-g! I will not tell you how Cass and Max-Ernest get another mission from the Terces Society, or how they find the Magic Museum, which is where they finally meet the Great and Magnificent Pietro! Wait a sec... AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!I've done it again! Oh well, I guess I'll tell you. But remeber, "If You're Reading this, it's t...more
If You're Reading This by P. Bosch and Gilbert Ford is definitely a hilarious and entertaining book! This book is about two young people going on an adventure that changes their life. Max-Ernest and Cass have to fight against the evil in the book, Ms. Mauvais and Dr. L. There are many interesting events that occur in this book.
This book is fantasy, which also caught my attention. The book being fantasy totally made it a hundred times more interesting because the way the book is written can take...more

Just reviewed The Name of This Book Is Secret.
Like I said in my previous review, this one is better. Way better. The new characters easily inched their way into my heart. They made up for Benjamin Blake's move to a private school (I was hoping that he'd join Cass and Max-Ernest)and more! The Homonculus named Cabbage Face was the best. If I had one like him I could easily get rid of the vegetables I hate so much!
But anyway. Cass was more useful and calm here. Her survival kit did little to help (...more

"Only bad books have good endings.
If a book is any good, it's ending is always bad - because you don't want the book to end"
In the prologue Mrs. Mavis (Mrs. M) and Dr.L steal a gem but that's just Cass's dream. Cass's mom gives her a grocery list and later in the day when Cass is hanging out with Max Ernest and they discover that the grocery list is actually a secret letter or invitation to go to sea. You may remember the first book of this series fascinating(The Name Of This Book Is Secret), which was a secret story that contains a secret secret about a extraordinary and extremely dangerous secret. The narrator tries to make up his mind in whether or not to tell you the secret. All throughout the book you are hooked to each turning page wondering when the secret will be brought out. All in all the secret is not revealed but you conclude that it is about immortality. The consecutive book "If...more
The second installment in the secret series by PB didn't wow me as much as the first. The narrator isn't cute or amusing to me, and the novelty has worn off. The side notes and comments weren't as interesting in this book, and I found myself skipping a few of them. That being said I ate this book up. I read it in one sitting. At the end of it all I felt like nothing much happened. The novel centers around finding a monster, it turns out that the monster is rather easy to find, then it's over. So...more
Cass dan Max-Ernest dibe...more

This book is the second in the Secret Series. Like the first book, this was a great book, though I enjoyed it slightly less. While the mystery and suspense were still there, I did not particularly like the section on the humounculus. I am not a big fantasy reader and while this series requires you to stretch your imagination some, I was not crazy about the humounculus storyline. However, I still find this to be a great read.
So, the book continues with the adventures of Cass and Max-Earnest who a...more

Cass and Max-Ernest are back and their new adventure is just as dangerous as it was before. (See The Name of This Book is Secret) Cass discovers a note in her lunch bag - a shopping list from her mom. But there’s something weird about the note: a) Cass’s mom just went to the store the day before b) some of the things on the list they never eat c) the note is signed, “Mother”. It just doesn’t add up and there is a good reason it doesn’t - the note isn’t from Cass’s mom at all, it’s a coded messag...more
I don't know why it took me so long to read the second volume of this series, but it took a near meeting with the mysterious author to get me to do it. No, really, he was just here drinking coffee, at the other end of our library. He spoke to one of my coworkers, after his real identity was exposed by a paperwork error at Little, Brown...or so they would have you believe. I think the Midnight Sun got to a vulnerable office worker, promising him or her fame, fortune and never-ending spa visits......more
This book was not what I thought it would be. I did not enjoy this book. It is about 2 people Cass and Max-Ernest they want to be in the secret society. They're waiting for a letter from the secret society. Their school goes on a trip near the water. They asked their teacher if the class can go explore and their teacher said yes so they went to this ship because they thought they saw the person that they were suppose to meet. The went in but it was a trap. They were their enemies so they tied th...more
I hate to say it, but this book is a bit forgettable. It's lots of fun while being read, mostly because of the authors constant asides and even full chapters explaining his reluctance and fear to tell this horrible yet exciting story. But, days after finishing it, I could not remember one of the revelations at the end of the book. (And didn't really care that I'd already returned it to the library and could not look it up.)
Still, I think any 3rd-5th grader would enjoy this book because of the "m...more

Its now time for my review for the second part of the Secret Series. With a new adventure this time it is a good continuation from The Name of This Book is Secret.
This time, the author for the second installment introduced some new characters which made the story more interesting. SPOILER! With the addition of a 3rd person to accompany Max-Earnest and Cass, it kind of follows the pattern of a trio-group protagonist (remember Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Hunger Games...more

If You're Reading This, It's Too Late by Pseudonymous Bosch
" If You're Reading This, It's Too Late" is the second book in Pseudonymous Bosch's Secret series. If you read the Lemony Snicket books or the first book in the Secret series and loved either, i would highly recommend this unpredictible mystery. It's great if you love being on the edge of your seat and having endless suprises.

What keeps me reading the series is the narator character. It was like I didn't care at all about the story. I guess I just can't lie about my age.
And I think that's the only problem I have with this book. I mean if the author someday decides to write something that has more appeal to adult, I would definitely put it in my shelf. He is creative in way that he is able to come up with various detail in presenting a story. When I read the books (the first two of the series), I feel like each chapte...more

While this book may be a good read for 7th graders, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone older than that. P. Bosch's If You're Reading This It's Too Late didn't really captivate me. The frequent interruptions in the book by the author to tell us 'how much he shouldn't be writing this book' are simply a cheap attempt at comedy that isn't really present. The plot revolves around two main characters, Cass and Max-Ernest, who are nothing more than a couple of 12 year olds who are at the bottom of the...more

A lake at dawn. It is very cold. A familiar eerie song starts to play. Clouds of fog cling to the surface of the water. We can hardly see through the air,it is so wet and clammy. Dark, hulking trees move in and out of view like shadowy hunters stalking prey. In the background, jagged mountain peaks rise out out of the mist like giant jaws ready to clamp down on the entire picture. Cass and Max-Earnest meet a new friend named Yo-yoji. Amber the nicest and third prettiest girl in school has a crus...more
Okay, Pseudonymous Bosch, you may still be a mysterious and hot young male author (
if you don't believe me) and I may still not know your identity (maybe I need to get some of my friends who are truly skilled with Google to help me dig it up), but you dropped the ball a little bit with this book. Just a little bit, mind you. I mean, I'm still picking up your third book today. No big deal. I still love you. You can still make me laugh. But this wasn't quite like the honeymoon phase of The Name o...more
This book is awsome! I think the first had a little more action, but it was still amazing! If you want to read this book, make sure you read the first one before, (The Name of This Book Is Secret).

A fun adventure tale! I haven't read the first book in the series; the narrator periodically refers to something that happened in the first book, but usually explains it in a "you may recall that when we last encountered these evil creatures..." sort of way, so I didn't feel like my enjoyment of this book was hampered by not having read the first.

The gimmick is that the author is really afraid to write these books because you, the reader, might end up getting into trouble with the villains. Which leads to lots of cute narration humor. This line right here is a prime example of why I enjoy reading these books:
You will notice that I have numbered the chapters in this book backward. Like a countdown to a rocket launch. Or a bomb. With any luck, the book will explode at the end, and I won't have to finish it.This book is structured different...more

I read this whole series and can highly recommend it! There was enough suspense to keep this 40 something entertained, and it was a good read that I think anyone could read without feeling that they were being "dummed down" by the writing. Yes it's geared toward the middle school set, but I read the first book, and couldn't wait to read them all!

Pseudonymous Bosch is the anonymous pseudonymous author of the Secret Series. Not much is known about him other than that he has a passionate love of chocolate and cheese and an equally passionate hatred of mayonnaise.
