Please don't let me die before I read another book. I do not want this to be the last book I ever read! Dead to the World is the fourth installment in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I actually read this a year or more back but re-read it last night again and realized I like it more than 4 stars.

This book starts off with a bang. Boring Bill announces he is leaving for Peru and Eric, the 6’4” Viking, makes an appearance in Bon Temps under a set of highly unusual circumstances: he is running down the side of the road half naked and he has amnesia. Jan, 2009: Somewhat to my surprise, this book was every bit as good or a bit better than the previous ones. Very enjoyable, quick read which for me to say about a 4th novel in a series is somewhat unusual. I generally tire of series as repetition takes its toll. Not in this case.

Book #4 in the Sookie Stackhouse series is just as good as the first one-maybe better. In this one Eric the vampire has been cursed by a witch and lost his memory making him much more vulnerable and endearing. Sookie's brother Jason goes missing and she has to try to save him as well as Eric. Sookie gets stronger and fiestier with each book-this series is really addictive.

By far the best book in the series so far. I am not a fan of Bill, so I'm glad that Sookie and Eric finally had a steamy love scene. However, I was a bit disappointed in the "war" between the supes/vamps and the coven of witches. It felt like it was too simple, and over too quickly. For such a powerful witch, Hallow and her crew were easily defeated within a couple of paragraphs. Definitely not the climatic moment I was expecting.

My favorite book in the series so far. What I like best about the main character, over most of the other series I've read with female leads, is the realness of her. Sookie is astute, practical, emotionally vulnerable, and observant in a way that I don't pick up on with any other character. I admire so much the way the author can phrase things that are plain common sense in such an interesting intelligent way. Sookie is insightful but her "inner chatter" doesn't go on and on. This is another fast paced action-packed novel from Charlaine Harris. I honestly don’t know how she does it. I have read four in a row of the Southern Vampire series, and I’m neither sick of them nor have they slowed down even though the same plot format has been used in each book. Charlaine Harris is a master story-teller.

Witches now? Really? It seems like every book there seems to be more supernatural creatures to come in for some plotty goodness. I liked the Sookie/Eric stuff, even if he wasn't his normal self, I really liked him. I'm wondering if in future books he might be more like his memory-modified self, but who knows. This is actually my favourite of the first four books in the series. Seeing a vulnerable, sweet Eric is wonderful – it’s a whole new side of him that we haven’t seen before (of course, is it really him when he has no memory of who he is? Or is this actually the real Eric?), and who could blame any hot-blooded female for softening towards him? I know I certainly would!

This is my favorite book in the series so far and now I'll tell you why. First and foremost, even though I am a Bill Compton fan, I've always enjoyed the chemistry between Eric and Sookie and Harris has taken it to a whole new level with this latest twist.

Dead to the World was one of my favorite books of the series. It kicks off with Sookie and Bill having parted ways due to his no good cheating ways, with Sookie back in Bon Temps waiting tables and hoping for a return to normalcy. Ha! This series (the "Southern Vampire" series, that is) keeps popping up in my Amazon recommended list, probably because of stuff I've told it I own or like. So I've borrowed Dead to the World from the library.

My absolute favorite book *grin* is it so hard to see why? So Sookie is surprised to find Eric Northman running down the parish road after work one night, with no memory of who he is, or who she is either. Bill, with whom Sookie has recently broken up, is conveniently out of the picture on business in Peru. So the stage is set for one of my favorite romances in the book, although it is all too fleeting -sigh-

I was about to rate this book about 3.5 when I decided it deserved a 4. It had been a long, long while since I last picked one of Charlaine Harris' books, and yesterday I decided I could give the fourth a go since I had already read the first three books.
