All little girls (ok so maybe not all, I shouldn't be making glittering generalites). Let me rephrase, most little girls dream about becoming the princess in all those wonderful fairy tales. What would happen if you had the chance to obtain that childhood wish? Our protagonist Savannah gets to find out.
Poor Savannah is having a rough time right now. Her boyfriend Hunter has just dumped her for her older sister Jane. Things aren't looking to good either to find a replacement for prom. Here enters...more

My Fair Godmother is the most delightful fairytale of the current century. This book first caught my interest just because of the cover art and yes I know you should never judge a book by it's cover. Well I will be happy to say that the story within is even better than I could have possibly expected and where were books like this when I was a teen.

This book was like a Caribbean cruise gone horribly, horribly wrong. Like, you know, it starts out great, with sunshine and blue water and beautiful beaches everywhere. Then things start to go wrong. Small things at first; your dinner is cold when it reaches you, the waiter gives you the wrong drink, your bathing suit strap frays and you have to buy a new one.
And then suddenly a freak heat wave moves in, the polar ice caps melt, and your cruise ship is drowned in the ensuing flood.

Savannah is a pretty and popular high school sophomore who is having the worst week ever. Her boyfriend just dumped her for her formerly geeky older sister after she gets a make-over. What's a girl to do when she loses her prom date after she already has the perfect dress? Well, the last thing on Savannah's list was to get help from a wish-granting "Fair" Godmother named Chrissy. Yeah, that's right. Fair, as in, not very good.

Savannah is having a bad month. First her sister steals her boyfriend, now her fairy godmother is too busy to let her finish a sentence. She only hears the part of Savannah's wish where she says she wants her life to be like a fairy tale. . . . and voila! Savannah is back in the middle ages, scrubbing floors and milking cows as Cinderella. Further attempts to sort out her wishes only result in more mayhem, as Chrissie the godmother can barely be bothered to stop shopping or partying long enough...more

I liked this fairy tale-ish book. I read it out loud to my 8 year old, and there were parts at he beginning when I wondered if it was appropriate for her, but once it got into fairy tale mode, it was just up her alley. Funny, sweet, perhaps a bit heavy-handed on the "hot guy" thing, but in the end thoroughly enjoyable.

I don't generally have a high opinion of YA lit, so it took me a little longer to begin this book. Actually, to be honest, I was intrigued by the whole incompetent fairy godmother concept and the cover art. The better than average reviews helped, sort of, but my thoughts usually don't match most of the YA reviews I've read, so I wasn't really going to start trusting them now. Considering it all, this book was surprisingly good.

This book is just totally hilarious and I laughed out loud too many times to even count! If you're ever in the mood for a good laugh, read a book by Janette Rallison.
Overview: Savannah has just been dumped by her boyfriend, Hunter, for her perfect older sister Jane. Now she's stuck without a date to prom after she's just finished using up her last penny on her dream dress, and has very recently embarrassed herself in front of most of the school. Now how will she ever get a worthy date to prom?...more

I've known Janette Rallison for several years and have been delighted with her sense of humor and her charm. Despite knowing her, I have to admit, I didn't read one of her young adult books until this last summer, and let me say, I've been regretting that procrastination. All this time I could have been a huge fan, and now I feel like I have to go back and retroactively enjoy all her books. I'm serious - I just came home from the library with four of her titles. I've got to make up for all I've...more
The only sub-genre I look forward to as much as dystopia is fairy-tale retellings. I really wanted something lighthearted and fun after the heavier books I’ve been reading lately and this charming and hilarious novel proved to be exactly what I needed.
It all begins when mediocre fairy godmother student Chrissy Everstar has to do an extra credit project and is put on the case of 15 year old Savannah who is inconsolable after sister Jane steals her hot prom date Hunter. When Chrissy shows up in a...more

Have you ever been dumped by your boyfriend for your sister? Have you ever made 3 bad wishes? Have you had to serve ungratious princes or nervous dwarves while trying to evade the WSM (wicked stepmother)?
Then run, don't walk to your nearest bookstore/library and take home My Fair Godmother by Janette Rallison. This book will speak to you! Our troubled heroine is not having a good month either. My Fair Godmother is very entertaining. It is definitly interesting; especially how the author portrays the princes and princesses and how they might actually have been-personality wise.
In the beginning I couldn't completely sympathize with either of the sisters. Jane stole Savannah's boyfriend but Savannah seems to be way too superficial. However, I did feel a bit more simpathetic towards Savannah because she is the one who got dumped. But what a better way to get over your ex then to be magic...more

This was a cute book. One of my favorite authors featured it on her blog, so I requested it from the library. Its more for teen readers, but I enjoyed it. The book describes itself as a romatnic comedy fantasy. Its about a 16 year old girl who gets mixed up with only a fair godmother (she didn't do well if fairy godmother school, so she is only fair). Then the girl gets mixed up in different fairytales and even drags people from her own time back with her, all fault to the fair godmother. I laug...more
What happens when you get assigned a "fair" godmother instead of a fairy godmother? A whole bunch of mischief. Savannah's boyfriend breaks up with her for her older sister. When she expresses her desire to have someone more princelike in her life, her fairy godmother flunkie takes her literally and whisks her off to the middle ages. A funny read. I can't wait for the next one.

This book is just so cute. It reminds me of my purple sparkly Christmas tree (in a good way - I love my Christmas tree). It's TRYING to be lighthearted, silly and doesn't want you to take it seriously. If you're looking for something deep and brilliant maybe you didn't notice the pink haired fairy on the cover?
Lately I'm into fairytales. My current obsession with Once Upon A Time is probably the reason. But not all fairytales are made equally. Some have more serious undertones (Once U...more

This book is a great, fun read! It is nothing like the typical fan fiction, cheezy, sleazy chick lit novels that piss me off rather than make my day yet, the setting is still rather similar.
Ok, maybe I sound rather confusing there, let me break it down for you:
Similarities between this book and cheezy, sleazy chick lit:
1. Beautiful female lead.
2. Super hot male lead.
3. High school.
4. Prom.
Differences between this book and cheezy, sleazy chick lit (which, ultimately makes all the difference):

GREAT! I loved this book. Like all of Rallison's books she combines humor with creativity to create an irresistible novel. It's a little bit Cinderella, a little bit snow white, and a lot entertaining. READ IT!!! An interesting fairy tale.
So many things can get messed up when your fairy godmother doesn't pay attention to you, or her classes. That's why she's your fair godmother. Because she's just fair at things not great. Enter Savannah, she just got dumped by her boyfriend for her older sister. She's understandably upset, and Chrissy (her fair godmother) tells her that she will grant her 3 wishes. All three get pretty messed up with hilarious results. Who knew Snow White was so dim, or that Prince Charming was egotistical and s...more
This was a cute book for teen girls to read. It's about a teen girl named Savannah, who thinks she has it all. Until her older, geekier sister steals her boyfriend, and her date to the prom. She thinks all is lost until one night a teenage girl Chrissy, short for Chrysanthemum, appears in her bedroom claiming to be her Fair Godmother. Just her Fair Godmother, because she hasn't passed her fairy godmother exam yet, and Savannah is her "extra credit" project. She grants her 3 wishes, which Savanna...more
This is a great fairy-tale retelling, a mixture of Cinderella and Snow White. When high schooler Savannah's older sister Jane has a makeover and catches the eye of Savannah's senior boyfriend Hunter, the sibling wars begin. Enter Chrystanthemum Everstar, a fairy godmother who has a lot to prove after exiting her early training as only "fair". Chrissy appears to Savannah, finally convinces her she really has three wishes and proceeds to mangle them by not really listening to her. All Savannah rea...more
My Thoughts: Well, I'm a huge Rallison fan. I've really enjoyed everything I've read by her. When I started My Fair Godmother I thought it was going to be too immature for my tastes but I was wrong. We get introduced to Savannah who is in love with a guy and her sister ends up with him. Well, truth be told, from the get go, I thought her sister belonged with him. Her sister liked him too. Well, than Savannah gets a fairy godmother and she gets 3 wishes. She basically wishes for a prince and gets...more
I was first introduced to this book through a friend. She was hosting a giveaway for it, and I wanted it SO BADLY. I LOVE fairy tales. Really, truly love them. Well, I didn't win the book (sob), but I did put in on my TBR list. I was browsing at the library the other day and it jumped out at me. As in, literally fell off the shelf. I figured that was a sign and that it was time to pick it up.

Savannah didn't ask for a fairy godmother, but after her boyfriend dumps her for her sister, she'll take all the help she can get.

Though at first I thought the story was a standard take on high school popularity, boyfriend issues, and wish fulfillment, I was quickly sucked in as the plot started zigzagging into the Middle Ages and fairy tales. Savannah finds out that she has a fair godmother – fair because she has only done fair work in school, and so needs an extra-credit project to get into university. Chrissy listens to the literal sense of Savannah’s wishes but is in too much of a hurry to go shopping to get the real i...more
Read this in less than 24 hours! Savannah's older sister Jane steals her boyfriend and Savannah is devastated. In walks her fair (not fairy, but fair b/c her grades aren't that hot) godmother, Chrissy Everhart with three wishes for Savannah and a cranky leprechaun as an assistant. The chaos that ensues when Chrissy messes up Savannah's three wishes is pretty funny. Savannah ends up in the Middle Ages as first Cinderella, then Snow White and finally herself (but she has to help her classmate beco...more
This book reminds me of why I love to read. Entertaining!
I must say, this is my favorite of her books I have read so far.
It's about this girl Savannah who's sister steals her boyfriend. Then Savannah gets a fairy godmother who grants her three wishes. But in granting those wishes, the fairy godmother interprets the wishes in her own way and Savannah has to deal with it.

This book might deserve 4 stars, but only in the context of its genre. What I mean is, this is a clean, bubbly, nearly perfect example of a teen fantasy romantic comedy. I enjoyed it way more than Princess Diaries, and I think Rallison might have an edge over Cabot in creating real and funny teenage characters. I did have a few issues with the plotting--I felt like it was a bit slow in getting to the meat of the story, and I didn't appreciate how the sister, Jane, is introduced as a sympathetic...more
