Took quite a while to get into this book, but it usually does with me! But, thoroughly enjoyed it, couldn't put it down towards the end, so, I'll call it a goodun!
'Io sono Dio ' (I am God) is a beautifully written, fast paced story about how one man looses himself in Vietnam and returns to the States full of hatred to the government that betrayed him so badly. The main story is the classic tale about finding the bad guy and stop him in time to save everyone from dying under cruel circumstances, but it's also about finding peace with whom you are, what you are. The plot of the book worked very well in my mind and although I was closer then I thought to fig ...more

I Am God

The Vietnam war, the Catholic church, misled teenagers, a top-notch psychopath and the post- September 11 setting already are an ambitious mix, but Faletti does not stop there. He throws in Vivien, a young, beautiful and – of course - extremely successful cop (despite many private problems) and a lost-son type author/photographer searching his true self. Not to forget the Kosovo conflict, a three-legged black cat and a dose of ventriloquism.

It works and it doesn’t, though I am not sure

Crime fiction is not my favourite genre, but when it is done well, I really do enjoy it. Emily and Jamie from Constable Robinson publishers regularly feed my reading needs, sending me a wide assortment of their titles to try. When I Am God by Giorgio Faletti dropped through the letterbox, I really wasn't sure what to think - the cover alone is enough to scare the pants off you and the blurb on the back is intriguing.
So, a couple of days later, I finally raise my head from the pages, and it reall
This book is full of unexpected plot twists and turns. Till the end you cannot know who sets the bombs to blow. Detective is following all those leads towards killer but the real "God" stays hidden till the end. Faletti keeps his readers tense till last few pages of the book. You cannot imagine how will it all solve and who is the killer. REALLY great book. Really.

Having spent so much time in Urban Fantasy, I feel nearly immune to the clutches of other genres lately. I Am God was a shift from the usual and back into fairly straight-forward thriller material. It was refreshing. No teenage girl-power, no deus ex machina, no vampires or werewolves. Just sociopaths and the people in blue who chase them.

Part of the thrill—and frustration—of reading I Am God was the way in which unfolded. It felt really slow at first, very vague in the manner through which it r

I raced through this book, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a translated version of an Italian crime novel set in New York. Vivien Light is an NYPD detective who gets assigned to a cold case when a mummified body is found in the wall of a building. When a building is blown up and the two seem to be connected, she finds herself working with journalist and photographer, Russell Wade. Between the two of them, there's enough "hidden demons" and "past I'd rather forget" to sink a battleship.

I didn’t know exactly what to expect from I Am God when I started to read it. I thought the book had to many options how to tell the story, but nothing I imagined happened. It’s strange to read a book of an author you’ve never read before, mainly when I didn’t even read a book review from a novel he wrote. But that is what I did with I Am God: I took a chance.

We start the book being presented to the person who is responsible for a mass attack.

An interesting thriller, well written, with a few common ingredients in this type of narratives, and that was able to catch the reader attention. I considered it a good book until I reach the end of it… but one step at the time.

Vivian, a New York police detective is called for the investigation to find out the author of a series of bomb attacks, which brings back some of the ghosts of the 9-11. During the investigation, the journalist Russell, who had meanwhile fallen in disgrace, gets also invo
Ebbene sì, lo posso confermare... "Faletti is back!"

Well... I liked it, as my rating says. It was a little bit confusing at first and I was trying to figure out who was who and who did what and when. All those passages with cursive writing sometimes mess things up a little, but overall it was relatively easy to follow the story. I must say the end really surprised me, because I never suspected the bad guy to be... (yeah, like I'm going to tell! :P). But, I also have to admit that the book (or, rather, the author) failed to invoke that "oh my good ...more
The beginning felt like forever but it was worth it. Writer slowly introduced us into the story giving us what we needed to know and hiding just enough for us to be interested and have questions pop up in our heads. After 140 pages I literally couldn't stop reading. Story was becoming more and more interesting with the twist I definitely didn't expect. Moreover, characters were developed perfectly, each either on the road to redemption, road of destruction or journey to discover real self. I'm n ...more

A premissa parecia-me interessante e queria ver no que dava...

I hate reviewing books that I really liked. Let's see, the reversal of traditional roles was pretty much a good start for this book. The female protagonist is the cop, while the male protagonist is the somewhat useless ex-reporter. Adding to that, I think that their relationship development was handled pretty well, not to mention the individual character development. And then there's the killer...I think I wrote earlier that I love plots that seem to span across the years. It gives some weight t ...more
Loved this book. The beginning was a bit slow, but it didn't make it unpleasant in the least. I loved the way the plot unfolded and how the pace quickened. The characters were also likable, and I appreciated how relevant descriptions and dialogues were.

I removed one star because the ending somewhat disappointed me (but that's just a personal opinion, it has nothing to do with the way it was written) and because of my one big grievance with this book: its English version. I have never read a boo
Right up until the end there are no obvious clues as to who the perpetrator is, and then you think it's someone else anyway. I liked the way that at the end there were a few separate parts written in different characters' voices.

Recommends it for: anyone that loves a good plot twist
All in all, I thought this book was fantastic. I had a translated version and there were a few mistakes, but getting past that was easy as the plot was so gripping. From the first page you're hooked on the story of a serial killer who's letting off bombs all over New York. As Vivien Light and Russel Wade rush against the clock to discover the identity of the killer, presumed to have died years ago, becomes increasingly difficult as more and more elements cross their paths.

The ending will literal
