The first few pages of this book were so amazingly bad that I couldn't bring myself to keep going. Almost the entire first chapter was written in past perfect (SHAME!) -- with several sentences even in passive voice! I couldn't have turned this manuscript in to my high school english teacher. Pages and pages of boring exposition-- no action or even dialogue for the first several pages. Seriously? How is this person a published author? What happened to "show don't tell"? Every writer, actor, play...more
It was a decent enough premise, but it really could have been so much better. The ideas are there, but the heroine is so weak when she's supposed to be kick-ass. The moment she accidentally casts the love spell on the big bad vampire, making him into her love puppy, she's throwing herself at him every opportunity she has. Considering how heavily we're told in this book that witches and vampires HATE each other, and how she's supposed to be on this mighty vendetta against all vampires, including...more
One of a selection of Harlequin romances available free for download, this is a vampire/witch romance with added werewolves and cameo appearances from Satan. Which piqued my curiosity enough to download and read it on my phone.
I don't know how she managed to make the idea of vampires and witches fighting a secret ancient war on the streets of American cities seem quite so mundane.

This was a fun light read about a witch and a vampire, who are sworn enemies, falling in love due to a crazy mix up with a love potion. There is a lot of internal struggle as the two attempt to fight an unnatural attraction of the heart even when the brain knows their actions are taboo. The character development is decent enough for a fun light read but takes place later in the story as the two lovers begin to open up to each other. There are some funny moments and I especially enjoyed the devil...more
Michele Hauf’s Kiss Me Deadly is the first book that talks about the war between witches and vampires. With the previous years of enslaving witches by vampires, a spell was cast to protect witches to put balance on things by making their blood poisonous to vampires called the Death Cocktail. Vampires do not usually survive after getting the Death Cocktail (imagine acid like) except one, Nikolaus Drake. With vengeance, he hunted down the witch who tried to kill him, Ravin Crosse. Ravin was what y...more
Yay! This book was free this month! Double yay! It is completely, cracktasticly over the top!
I am sure you may be thinking- this is a vampire harlequin! Surely it must suck! And it might have if the author had been less committed to bringing every wonderful cliché out into the open and gleefully allowing them full reign. I feel that this was a bad book that crossed back over to being good. I was certainly not bored while I was reading it.

I was pleasantly surprised by 'Kiss Me Deadly'; it definitely held true to the old saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover". Based on the cover, I was expecting a book with gratuitous sex. I was pleasantly surprised to find that while there is sex mentioned, it's never in an 'over-done, over the top' descriptive kind of way. It's more hinted at and eluded to that ever actually step-by-step described, which I must admit was a nice change. The plot was also different from every other vamp-love s...more
What happens when a witch vampire killer who stalks and kills her prey, and a Phoenix Vampire who survived her attack, are the victims of a love potion? I'll tell you - A fun, action-packed, sexually-charged thrill ride of a book!

I read this book a while ago on my iPod and don't really remember what I felt. It was a free eBook so I thought 'why not?' It is about a vampire, Nicholas Drake, who intends on killing a witch named Raven Cross. The witches and vampires were at war and he was out of commission for a while because Raven spilled her blood/spit on him when they faced off together. When that happens, normally vampires die, but not Nicholas. Nicholas survives and was donned the strongest vampire ever who could now wa...more
Ravin is a witch. Her sole purpose in life is the kill as many vampires as she can. Since witch's blood is poisonous to vampires, she has been rather successful. Her most recent hunt has eliminated several of the foul creatures, including their leader....or so she thinks. The vampire tribe leader, Nikolaus, was somehow able to survive and is now stronger than ever. Nikolaus is now out for revenge. He will stop at nothing to kill the witch that almost killed him.

Ravin Crosse is a vampire slayer and a witch, also pretty badass riding a black chopper with venom carved on the gas tank, leather clad, Nikolaus is out to kill her for revenge. Unfortunately A pilled love spell causes grief for them both, Nikolaus cannot bring himself to kill Ravin and Ravin now had a pheonixed vampire who believes he loves her. This moment was so cute;
“She slammed the grimoire shut. Black lacquered fingernails tapped the stone countertop.
“Are you Goth?” he suddenly wondered.

The only reason I am not rating this book higher is that I read it three days ago and can't remember much of what I liked. I know I laughed out loud more than once. I loved the chemistry between the characters. I could not put it down. I think it was a novella because I read it fast even for me. I read it before starting another book by Ms. Hauf so I could get a sense of her writing style. Well, this book entertained and gave me a sense of her creative range but I would not say I loved it. A str...more

This is the second Bewitching the Dark book. I really enjoyed the first one, and since we met Ravin, the heroine in that tale, I was intrigued. Couldn't wait to see what she got up to in this book.... and well, it didn't disappoint! What a cool read. I really wanted to get through this one very quickly, but other things kept getting in the way. :/
Anyway, by Friday afternoon, I decided that I was going to get to the end no matter what. And boy am I glad I did.

... I read it because it was free, or I probably would never have bothered in the first place. That said, I did enjoy the book, and you might too if you accept it for what it is: a somewhat mediocre supernatural romance novel. Magic can do anything and explain any contrived plot elements, but it doesn't make them any less contrived. You'll see the would-be twists coming from page 2, if not before you open the book. But that's what you should expect, especially when it's free, so if you can accep...more
The first 40 pages was a bit boring and I just keep reading because I can't stop just like that (it's a habit). Yes, it started with a scene, but not quite interesting. The explanation is too much that made somehow lost the interest a bit. The introduction of both characters, Ravin and Nikolaus are a bit shaky and out of nowhere. I think it's like not strongly constructed. No chemistry. Honestly, it's more like a cheesy romance. Sorry. But, there's no overrated scene in the story. So, I was ver...more
I downloaded this book for free on the Kindle. This was really a good book! It was about a witch and a vampire. The witch's blood is poison to a vampire. It totally destroys thier bodies and reduces them to ash. They can "spit" blood at vampires. Anyway she spits this blood at a vampire leader and he goes down. Before he can die, he lands on one of his clan and drinks from that vampire before he dies. Well he doesn't die, he becomes a phoenix. A phoenix is immune to all witch poison. Now he has...more
Book #40 of 2009
This hardly feels like it should count as a "book" as it was such an obviously cheesy romance. I downloaded the Kindle App for my iPhone because I was curious to see if the App worked without the actual Kindle device (it does) and this was one of a handful of free books on Amazon.
The book itself was OK. It was a very quick read and I barely noticed that I was nearly halfway through the book by the time I realized that I was probably going to finish it. Since I had downloaded it...more

Nikolaus Drake has been a vampire for 20 years. He was a brain surgeon before but had a brain tumour, and the operation for the removal went very wrong resulting in him being handicapped & that cost him his fiancee (who didn't want to have a handicapped guy for a hubby. *seriously what a ass*). This book took me far too long to read. Like, days. And it wasn't because it was OMG! So Deeeeeep! or anything. No, it was simply because it was a decent enough idea, poorly executed. There was way too much information and supernatural mythology for the amount of book we were given. The premise behind it was ... weak. It goes something like this: Vampires, Werewolves, and witches all exist. The blood of the witches is deadly to vampires. One vampire, however, has survived the death cocktail and...more
I liked the idea of two sworn enemies being forced to face their motivations and ideals. Even if the source was a love spell. I enjoyed the subtext and seeing the two struggle with something against their nature forced upon them. The Devil was kinda over the top for me. And Ravin accepted Nikolaus's love and attentions a little too easily without her being under the spell. Too many items like that were just explained away by saying it was the blood sex magic. Or the exchange of blood just bonded...more

I found this book a bit 'waffely' in places, particularly the first few chapters there seemed to be a fair bit of repetition with the two main characters pondering on their past experiences and feelings. I felt there was a lot of self exploration by the characters that could have been written more clearly and without the waffle and at times felt like screaming for the plot to move on,

Ravin is a witch who hunts vampires. She has killed hundreds because they killed her parents two hundred years ago. Raven has sold her soul or lent to the devil and she need to do 3 tasks for him. the second is to make a love potion she just finshed it and placed it on top of fridge too cool. when her door gets blown open and a vampire comes through her magic with intent to kill her. A witch's blood can kill a vampire fast it eats them away. Nikolaus survived her blood bullets two months ago and...more
Okay the only reason I downloaded this book in the first place was because it was free. There were so many negative reviews about this book, I just had to see what all the fuss was about.
Once I started reading it, was obvious- the English was improper, there were so many grammatical errors, the gender confusion( oh god,the gender confusion). ALl I could think was " how is this author published" . Keep reading..

This is the first book by Michele Hauf that I have read. It is the second in the series. New concept, at least for me, and an interesting one. Witches with poisonous blood against vampires. A bit of cheesiness however I really got pulled into the love story between the two characters even though the relationship between the two main characters is nothing new. However it seems to be one that I enjoy over and over again. Tough kick butt female and an intense powerful male. I look forward to readin...more
Nikolaus Drake and Raven Crosse, a vampire and a witch, sworn enemies that find love in one another under the weirdest of conditions.
I really don't know what to think about the book. I started off with this book which is book 2 of the series because so many other readers said the second was better than the first. The potential was there; the plot was interesting enough but there was too much going back and forth on feelings, thoughts and circumstances. It was like once you decided you thought A...more

I really didn't like this book.
A book that I didn't like. Will wonders ever cease?
Seriously, I really didn't like this book. It seemed...rushed. There really wasn't a back story (other than Ravin's parents being killed by vampires and Nikolaus being a neurosurgeon who had brain cancer).
The sex scenes seemed really contrived. Ravin went from being an unwilling participant (only giving in because Nikolaus drank a love potion...which screams rape to me...but hey, I didn't write the book) to fallin...more

I definitely enjoyed Hauf's added twist to the "typical" vampire story: witches' blood as being poisonous to vampires; however, I thought the beginning of the book lacked action ....it was a little too generic romance novel-y for my taste (in the sense that it was almost completely sex scenes, Ravin and Nikolaus were the only characters for several chapters, and the setting was almost entirely in Ravin's house.). As the book progressed, the plot did get more complex, and overall I would recommen...more

Michele has been writing romance, action-adventure and fantasy stories for over fifteen years. Her first published novel was DARK RAPTURE.
France, musketeers, vampires and faeries populate her stories. And if she followed the adage 'write what you know', all her stories would have snow in them. Fortunately, she steps beyond her comfort zone and writes about countries she has never visited and of cr...more
