Not sure why I decided to read this, since I'm insanely afraid of flying already! It was really interesting though to read about this amazing story from the passengers point of view. I read it really fast, I couldn't stop reading! It was really sad to read about the thoughts and emotions and actions of the passengers when they truly thought they were going to die. An excellent book, albeit a bit short for the price. This is offset by the genuine testimony. However, the book suddenly cuts off just when we want a resolution. Otherwise, it would be a five-star rating. Read my entire review here.

This was interesting, although not quite what I expected. The short amount of time that was involved was rather incredible. The whole flight from take-off to crash was less than 6 minutes. Can you imagine just doing a rather ordinary thing, like flying in a plane, then truly, truly believing you are going to die, and then not dying, all in the space of 6 minutes? Talk about emotional whiplash. My biggest complaint with this book was keeping everyone straight and it was sometimes hard to foll...more
If you followed the media frenzy from 2009 when this flight landed (I didn't), this book might be overkill and you probably all ready know about the stories from the survivors' perspectives. But not having paid attention to any of the coverage at all, I really liked reading the play-by-play account. This was a good and fast read. The authors wrote in a journalistic style and the reactions of the passengers faced with the prospect of a nasty end was fascinating to me. Also revealing of American culture was an unspoken "women and children first" rule applied as the rescue boats picked up the survivors when it wasn't practical or even safe for some of the men. The description of events was so compelling I felt a need to keep reading until the end.
One of the passengers on the flight lives in our town and came to speak to our book club. We had the opportunity to ask questions about the horrific event and of course it was very interesting.
She was remarkably unshaken by then. She helped initiate the book and also held a reunion party at her home where two passengers got to know each other better and became engaged.

Very disjointed (due to trying to fit together many different passengers' accounts), and pretty impossible to keep track of all the people, but interesting to hear what it was like to be a passenger on that very short flight.
William Prochnau & Laura Parker have definitely did their homework.....I really enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to every one.....The detail of the 3 minutes that the plan was in the air before it made a water landing was riveting and I was on the edge of my seat.....I can't imagine experiencing anything close to this......

I'm surprised. Usually books of this sort are not very good. This one was very good. I enjoyed it. Second by second account of what happened int he cabin of the plane as it hit the Hudson.
The story of the plane crash into the Hudon River from the viewpoint of the passengers. The memories of the survivors of the crash are vivid and real. A much better book that the 1st one I read about this accident.
This was a good book overall, but not a good book for me. It shared the stories from a good portion of the passengers on flight 1549 and I had trouble keeping track of who everyone was. I am a very detail oriented person and that didn't really help during this read. At one point, I was tempted to start the book over and keep a notepad with me so I could write down all their names and a little about them so I knew who was who when they were sharing their stories since it goes by point in time ...more
A good story of survival. Not sure why I read this less than a month before getting on a plane, but it was a gift!
Very quick and easy reading; seems very personal.
Good if you never want to fly again!
This was an enjoyable book to read. I liked how the book was written -- it went through the whole experience bit by bit, but it stopped at major points in the story to give background about various passengers and then explain how they were feeling at that point. Lots of time and energy went into researching and writing this book. Loved it!
Words cannot adequately describe my thoughts while reading this book. It is a must read for everyone!
I was able to relate to the extreamly cold temperature of the water the passengers felt, slipping off the wings into the Hudson. I learned how to swim in the Hudson. The River is Always COLD and the current is very STRONG! Miracle On The Hudson is a Great Read!
