While on a grail quest, accompanied by various tired and forgettable characters, a horny, pessimistic Merlin does his best to jade an adolescent, and very green, Arthur into despising politics and people.

Merlin's Charge is the kind of book you'll want to finish without interruption and then reread because you'll want to keep the characters with you.

There's young Arthur, witches, Parsifal, monks, and--of course--Merlin.

In the hands of Peter Joseph Swanson, Merlin is irascible, sarcastic, impatient, and selfish. He is just as likely to hit Arthur upside the head as to speak to him when Arthur shows
Aaaargh. Someone slap me on the head. Now. Please. 23 pages in and I can no longer abide the inane ramblings of Merlin trying to man up the oafish Arthur, the oafish Arthur trying to understand Merlin's ramblings, silly Parsifal in search of the Holy Grail (if only he knew!). This tale has neither rhyme nor reason and I'm moving on.
