Spare, abstract, thoughtful, the poems in PHANTASMAL REPEATS move sneakily within an insular, ambient framework. They are self-referential to an extent but still viscerally linked to the world at large.

Parra has serious chops, though he doesn't seem inclined ever to show them off. His poems are all explorations of the form, without boundaries but without the pretenses of the lyric, the experimental, or the formal. His ear is magnificent, and the thoughts here expose both his sympathy and lack of naivety amid the world on its brilliance and devastation. Aaron Tieger's book-making with Petrichord Books is outstandingly gorgeous.
