So what is the face of evil? Is it the face of a criminal who has to corrupt a boy's innocence to get what he is owed, but manages to make sure that that innocence if harried, and stained, remains unbroken? Or is it the face of a father whose weaknesses end up in the destruction of his family, and the sale of his son? Or even beyond that, is it the indolent face of a broken system that allows the cost of treating an illness to spiral down into a nightmare where people lose everything they have?...more

Great book!! Not your typical romance but awesome!! Violent, no values, no morality!! Wouldn't recommend it for the light-hearted, but everybody else ... just read it!!

Wow. I finished this in one sitting, which is rare for me, but for this book I was up reading until morning. Annoyed at first with the, at times, very sloppy writing and lack of editing (typos, bad grammar). Disappointed with some stylistic choices (like using flashbacks or just skimming very important scenes). All in all: technically speaking there was a lot of room for improvement.

But the book got to me on an emotional level. I had a constant knot in my stomach while reading. I was engrossed,...more

Aw, that was suprisingly sweet! Kind of like a cross between Pain and . . . pain?, Forgotten, and Muffin, if you imagine that Traxie had just gone on holiday to a tropical island, and arrived to find endless free coffee gelato, a houseboy dedicated to giving foot rubs, and Maru i.e. in a very happy mood.

So, although this is a about a 14 year old boy raped and forced into prostitution, followed by a life as a courtesan in the mob, it is not a dark fic.

I read one version of the original story, an...more

I really loved this book but it has to be one of the hardest books I have ever read. It was shocking and horrific and disgusting. I never cried but I did gag a few times. I think I was in too much shock to cry! Also, my chest was tight and I was nauseous throughout the entire book.

The story is about Brant, who sold himself at the age of 14 to protect his sister and pay off his father's debt. He is immediately raped by Wilbur and then pimped out by him for the next 10 and a half years. Somehow, d...more

Holy cow, I loved this story. It is not for the faint of heart, and I really hope there aren't things like this going on in the real world, at least I would like to believe there aren't. I can't imagine how Brant was able to endure physically, and, even more so, emotionally, as well as he did. My heart was torn a little bit with each page turned. I wanted to get to the end to see if Brant was able to find some peace and see how things turned out, but, at the same time, I really didn't want it to...more

Finished this in one sitting. Touching story of a brother's devotion to his family and ultimately to his abusive lover. Brant substitutes himself to save his sisters from entering a brothel to pay off his father's debts. Would have been 5 star if not for some diabolical spelling and grammar.

'I never had happy dancing eyes, well not that I remember, but they were never this flat grey. Bruises faded. Cuts healed. But something died in my soul a few years back. I stared at the unfamiliar stranger.'...more

AMAZING! I keep using that word to describe this book. Darkness, violence and questionable morality abound in this masterpiece. It was gripping from the beginning to end.

I tend to give M/M books with consistently high ratings a chance, because if all those people who love the same genre as I loved the book, then surely there must be something to it. But, sadly, I'm often bitterly disappointed. This was the case here. This book fell so far short of my expectations that I've gone past not really liking it to actively hating it. I won't go into the plot in any great detail, but let's just say if I were the FBI, I'd be pretty suspicious of the author. All of the cha...more

The book had my stomach in knots for most of the book. To say I was emotionally invested in Brant would be an understatement. Derikca Snake, told a good story that is engaging, and unpredictable. The evolution or devolution however you want to look at it of Brant was unexpected and unconventional. I loved that I wasn't able to guess what was going to happen.

The story is a bit dark and edgy, but well worth the read.

The lesser evil or lesser of two evils principle is the idea in politics and political science that of two bad choices, one isn't as bad as the other, and should be chosen over the one that is a greater threat.

So, please before you read this book answer this quick 3 questions
1) Will you be disturbed reading about sexual intercourse without consent? (yeah, I'm talking about rape)
2) Would you freak out about minors as prostitutes?
3) To you is impossible accept master/slave relationships?

So, in...more

I REALLY don`t get why so much ado about this book.
And why people rate it so high.
I understand, for example, when people don`t like Linn Fleweling`s style - it`s a very slow-build romance and has too many descriptions, it`s more fantasy than love story etc.
We all love different things and that`s OK))
But this one - so highly rated and recommended - was a plain disappointment.

The one and only thing I wanted to scream during the reading was bold and big "DISBELIEVE!!!!!" with lots of exclamation...more

Oof. This really desperately needs someone to go through it and proofread and fix the mistakes. There are so many. Wrong words, mostly, but also whole sentences repeated over again in the same or next paragraph, some really horrible cliches, all things that a proofreading would have picked up immediately.

This story had some promise but it suffered from the author trying to do too much at once. This could have easily been a series or at the very least a much lengthier work. Nothing was built up....more

Firstly, I gave this book two stars because despite some snags in the rug along the way the book compelled me. I really loved how "That's what brother's do" tied in to the story arc. I thought that was brilliant, and I also liked the idea, which I also thought was brilliant.

In all honesty, however I didn't have high hopes going into to it. Could be because its an eBook and I wasn't impressed by the publishing company (checked out the site an everything). This could be my own prejudiced rearing i...more

About damn time... I'm almost tempted to read the re-make and see if it is worthy of the lame-a$$ contrived "award" the author says this monsterpiece won. Rainbow Award (Best Contemporary Fiction, 2009). 2009 must have been a VERY bad year if a poorly written piece of filth, (crack!fic anyone) loaded with spelling, grammatical...more

There was so much potential in this book that I've been back and forth about a dozen times trying to figure out what rating to give it. Why did I hesitate? Because I find it SO frustrating when you have a talented (I daresay VERY talented) author, but the editing is SO bad. Yes, I adored Brant -- I wanted to cry for him, and I grew to love him throughout this very dark tale. But I kept grumbling at my Kindle the entire time, because time after time there were formatting issues and tons of typos...more

This is a very dark tale about a young innocent man, Brant, who sacrificed his future in a successful effort to save his sisters - because that's what brothers do. It follows his life as his innocence is stripped away as he pays the price of protecting his family - physically first, then the gradual erosion of the innocence of his mind and soul.

This is not a story for the faint-hearted; it is bleak, cruel and violent. The despair and lack of alternative that Brant endured had me in tears throug...more

This is hard to review, and truthfully, I kept going back and forth between a 2 star and a 4 star rating. This is definetly a love or hate book. Somehow, I think I managed to draw a balance between love and hate, and with a cold mind is that I want to write this review, because if I start getting too emotionally involved in this writting then I can honestly say, I would have about 2 or 3 pages to rant about all the good and bad thing in this book. So here I go.
This was disturbing. You know the s...more

There are some books you read and feel like as if you have been reading about them for years. This is what I felt for Brant. This is a highly recommended read for anyone who is into BDSM, slave / master and desolated angsty to a paragon. It gives slave / master epoch an entirely new perspective. Or maybe I have not yet read an impressive title like this before.

This was deliciously gruesome, brilliantly agonizing and satisfyingly raw! It’s a fiction wrapped in reality, …….shades of grey colored...more

3.5 stars. My opinion of this book is all over the place. This book is absolutely taboo and extremely controversial. You have been warned. There were quite a few violent rape scenes which were hard to read, but they were necessary to illustrate just how much abuse Brant had to suffer through. Violence was also overabundant in this book. If you can't handle reading about murder, you'll want to move along. Same with any sort of male/male interaction - if it bothers you, this is not the book for yo...more

What would you do if your family was in debt so much that your dad went to a loan shark for a loan? Most of us wouldn't do anything cause we are kids. Well the loan is due. Dad tells you that they are going to take your younger sister to a brothel to work off the debt. She's just ten years old.
Brant was fourteen when that happened. He chose to make a deal with the devil. He traded his self to save his family. Why? Cause that's what brothers do.
The book starts 10 years after he made the deal and...more

I stumbled across this book and thought it would hit my itch for sort of dark, slashy goodness, and found I really enjoyed it, more than I expected I would. It's very well written with only a couple minor errors. I found the story compelling, how Brant could progress in a world that he never had imagined himself being part of and somehow, in spite of it all, finding love as well.

It can be very dark, but maybe I'm just inured, because I didn't think it was as dark or graphic as some of the revie...more

This book had a very strong yaoi feel to it. I'm not a big fan of yaoi novels (love the manga though) because of the over abundance of telling the story rather than getting to experience it through textile sensations. Like all yaoi, it left me craving more story and character interaction with the world.
However, having said that, the writing was far stronger than any Yaoi novel I have ever read. Tragic and dark, this writer takes the reader on a journey into a world where very few dare to go. It...more

i'm so in the minority with my review. let's set aside the horrible typos and grammar, (those can be worked out) i just did not get into this story at all. i wish i felt different b/c i see many 4-5 star reviews, so i'm wondering why it didn't affect me as it did others??

yes,i was sad and i was horrified by Brant's situation. He was "played" since his birth..and my heart broke for him b/c of that....but in the end, it was not a good story for me.

i think reviewing a b...more

This is not a simple book to like; it goes too much against the ordinary rules to leave bland feelings on readers. I think that, in the end, you love or hate it, but you can’t be in the middle. One of the first reactions is probably to think that it’s not possible, that it’s not real, mainly since the good doesn’t win over the evil… but, truth be told, how many time does it happens in the real world? Actually it’s more fairy-tale like to think that there will be always a positive resolution of t...more

I won’t be rating this book, I can’t, first I wasn’t able to finish it and second it has to be one of the worst things I have ever read. The typos and/or spelling errors drove me insane....how can a publisher never mind the author who is supposed to be proud of their work let something like this out there.

I made it to 47% and that was enough for me! This story was brutal and disgusting and even though I never look for reality in the books I read this was so far out there I was stunned! The ti...more

Greetings, gentle readers. My name is Derekica Snake aka kiix. This is the part where I write about myself. It is harder than it looks. It is so much easier to write about fictional characters…hummm. Wait. I have a light blub moment.

On a dark and quiet evening in the month of April, a little girl child came into the world in St. Joesph General Hospital. Upon seeing the little girl with the little...more
