I had a problem with this book.....what man in*love* doesnt question his soon to be bride's deciding he wasnt rich enough to marry??? Umm...especially since it was a so called love match, didnt ring true to me. Even tho the earl was suppose to be stuffy, rigid and prideful, wasnt that suppose to be AFTER she left him for someone else?? Yea...not too into this one. 1st book in series was great...this one....not so much. Maybe the next will be better....heres hoping...

Interesting plot as well as adventurous. Plus, the new Earl of Wyldewood (the great-grandson of Alexander's characters from her book, The Perfect Wife) is stodgy, but has a hilarious fear. Well, I thought it was hilarious, anyway.

This wasn't the most exciting or brilliant story, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Ten years ago a Big Misunderstanding had lovers Olivia, Lady Rathbourne, and Sterling Harrington, the Earl of Wyldwood, parting. She married a man who saw her as a possession and abused her both mentally and physically. He married a perfectly suitable woman who never held his heart and actually soon died. But it's been ten years and her husband has just been murdered (she is not a suspect) so her father is concerned for her welfare even though he is the one who caused the Big Misunderstanding. Good little book, that really should have been a great big novel.

In cutting this story down to the typical Avon Historical romance size, I felt they did the story and it's characters a grave injustice.

The premise was an awesome one, the character's enduring, and the 'treasure hunt/re-discovering love' plot, could have, and in this reviewers humble opinion, SHOULD have, been more involved, with deeper sentiment.

In delving deeper, the author would have weaved a beautiful, falling back in love st

Meet Olivia, Countess of Rathbourne. Ten years ago, she & Sterling, Earl of Wyldewood, were supposed to marry, but circumstances beyond her control prevented the nuptials from taking place.

Fast forward 10 years (1885) -- Olivia is recently widowed. Her evil husband tied up the will in such a way that Olivia may never be free.

Enter the Earl of Wyldewood -- Olivia needs his $$$$ to fund a treasure hunting expedition in order to locate 3 rare artifacts & obtain them for her dead husband's a

I liked the story. It fell into the reunited lovers category. Sterling was so confident that Olivia would be his, but he didn't keep pushing the issue. I loved that he kept having to remind himself to be patient. And I loved his reaction to his mother's reacquainting herself with Sir Lawrence. I'm gonna be honest here and say that I was glad Viscount Rathbourne died before this story began--what despicable person.

I know, I know, it took me a long time to read this one. Honestly it wasn't due to

Ten years later, she is free from the nightmare marriage but needs help to claim what is rightfully her inheritance. The only person she can turn to is the man that abandoned her when she needed him most.

In this story we get to follow Olivia and Sterling (Early of Wyldewood) on their journey to Egypt and Italy as they attempt to complete three of her deceased husband's collectio

Sterling Harrington is the oldest brother and now Earl of Wyldewood. He was in love with Olivia ten years ago and they were going to get married. Only two days after that decision she was married to someone else.

Ten years of misery between them and now she needs his help. Her husband was a mean and cruel man and she is not sad he was murdered. He has left his will in such a way though that he still has control of her. She needs to complete 3 of his collections or live on the small amount of mone

I don't know how I missed this one from Alexander. It is a good romance on two fronts. First, the heroine is trying to shake off the bad marriage she was forced into, and to become the person that she wants. Second, there is forgiveness for past transgressions on the part of the hero. The big issues were against the backdrop of traveling to exotic locations like Egypt and Venice. While there were some cliches that the author dipped into--like a randy Italian comte, for the most part, everyone ra ...more

Desires of a Perfect Lady by Victoria Alexander is a historical romance which I quite liked. Recently widowed Lady Rathbourne finds out that her late husband has found a way to keep control over her even in death, but she is determined to gain her freedom to breathe. Even if that means heading a treasure hunt to complete three of her husbands antiquity collections. Lacking the means to do what she must to satisfy the will for her inheritance, Lady Rathbourne must go to the man who she once loved ...more

This is a yet-to-be-released novel (March, 2010) that I read for review on Book Binge. It is a very interesting historical that does hold one's interest and keeps the story alive. Alexander is a great and very adept author who knows how to tell a story, and she spends the time necessary to develop the historical context. There is suspense and mystery, engaging characters, romantic tension, and humor in these pages and it certainly keeps the reader turning the pages without fail. Some of the conv ...more

All in all, a pretty good yarn! Hero and heroine were separated by fateful circumstances 10 years ago and are now reunited in a joint quest which takes them to Egypt and Italy and back to London within a couple of months. Propinquity allows resolution of past misunderstandings and hurts and reignites the buried passions. Very interesting supporting characters allow the Early of Wyldewood's character and Lady Rathbourne's personalities to be more fully explored, in a very entertaining manner. Vic ...more

There was so many things I questioned within this book but it was alright overall. Slightly disappointing compared to other novels I've read by the author...

Sterling and Olivia were once very much in love until she was forced to marry a cruel and coniving man, who blackmailed her father in order to have and abuse Olivia. This is the first book I have read by Victoria Alexander and I must say I'm glad I picked it up. The cover is what initially drove me to it...the colors are just so lush!! The characters are well written and the heroine is believable. She only wants to be rid of the memories of an unhappy marriage and she willing to do whatever it takes. I must say I loved Olivia Rathbourne because she is strong but not overbearing but still in a way not to sure of herself. As for Sterling Harrington he is willi ...more

One of my favorite authors. Victoria Alexander never disappoints me.

Olivia has just been widowed and her husband was a cold, nasty man. For her to inherit, she has to go on a convoluted treasure hunt and complete her dead husband's collections. Alex is from Olivia's past and they were parted over a misunderstanding. Alex offers to help Olivia on her treasure hunt. As they travel the world, they have an adventure of a lifetime and fall for each other again.

I enjoyed this book. I haven't read the first in the series and it stood alone and I wasn't lost at all. The romance is entertaining and satisfying. I felt sorry for all Olivia had to endure with her husband and for what he does to her after he dies. I loved the treasure hunt, even if it seems highly improbable. Great read!
Donna
I did really like this book and I really enjoyed all of Olivia and Sterling's adventures but I could never quite forgive him for abandoning her. I realize that his pride as an earl was one of the points, but I could never quite love him as a character. I loved the clever twist at the end.
Alessandria
I absolutely love this book! I feel that the characters play well off of each other. It's a classic plot, with a lot of romance and humor. I wish that a crazy twist was put into the story, but I love the banter that goes on between Livy and Sterling.
