I have always wanted to know more about Shakespeare and his plays. This is a great book with a lot of history about Shakespeare himself, a chapter on Early Modern English, and a great synopsis of every play. I think I need to see more of them to better understand them but it is good to get an idea of what each play is about and which ones I might want to watch more than others. Fascinating!

This is not a bad Shakespeare guide at all, although I have come across others that I much prefer. It covers information on biography, Elizabethan stage, Elizabethan English and the authorship question, and summarises and provides a commentary for each play, including those which are lesser known. The summaries are succinct and to-the-point, and the commentaries are very insightful although they are quite short.
