You know, Cherise Sinclair does such an amazing job of giving us characters who we care about and believable storylines despite the shorter page count. I’ve found this to be true in every one of her books that I’ve read, and Master of the Mountain is no different.

The book description gives more than a good insight of the story - in fact, it tells the whole story! - so I won't bother writing a plot summary here. I'll just say that the premise was interesting, but I didn't like the way the story unfolded.

The book description gives more than a good insight of the story - in fact, it tells the whole story! - so I won't bother writing a plot summary here. I'll just say that the premise was interesting, but I didn't like the way the story unfolded.

Rebecca was too hesitant and insecure - so much that I didn't know if she still considered Matt her boyfriend or not when she had sex with Logan. Before anyone shouts "Cheater!" at her, let me explain that Matt and Rebecca had an open relationship - even though she only became aware of that when the douchebag told her he was a swinger and asked her to join his swing club on a long weekend retreat - so she wasn't cheating on him when she decided to explore her sexuality with Logan. Even so, I still felt uncomfortable with her decision, mostly because she was uncomfortable with it too. She was clearly not a swinger and not into any kind of sexual sharing, so why didn't she break things up with Matt when she realized that? Considering he was "busy" with another woman (and therefore, didn't have time to speak with his own girlfriend) and how he was okay with her having sex with other guys, I'd have been fine with Rebecca breaking up with Matt "telepathically" until she could do it face to face. She did that (the "telepathic" breakup) later, but the damage - the way I saw it - had been done.

Logan was sexy as sin - and a bit scary for my sensitive taste. He was definitely a Dom with a capital D and wasn't afraid to push Rebecca out of her comfort zone. He never went over what he knew she could take, which was a relief - to her, not to me. And that's where I had some issues with this book. Logan and Rebecca were more than happy with their BDSM plays - well, she wasn't exactly laughing with joy when he punished her, but you know what I mean - and they really knew how to set the sheets on fire, but some of their sex scenes were out of my comfort zone. I shouldn't care - I mean, as long as everyting is sane, safe and consensual, everything goes - but I couldn't help being put off by some of their sexcapades. Since I read for fun and that affected my enjoyment while I was reading this book, I had to take that in consideration when I decided on my rating.

This was my 3rd read by this author and I don't know where I stand when it comes to her books. I like her writing, but I'm wary of her stories. I loved The Dom's Dungeon, I didn't like Club Shadowlands and even though I thought that this book was better than okay, it wasn't a winner. What to do, what to do? I guess I'll have to keep reading. ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. From the first page to the last, Master of the Mountain captured my attention, my imagination, and my heart. I feel Cherise Sinclair did a wonderful job portraying the basic and complex components in the relationship between the Dominate and the Submissive. If you are looking for an erotica romance author who delivers each and every time you open a book, then Cherise Sinclair is your girl. While the Masters of the Shadowlands may be my favourite series by her, this series Mountain Masters is another great BDSM escape for readers.

Rebecca lets her boyfriend, Matt talk her into taking part in a swingers getaway at a mountain lodge. Feeling unfulfilled in her relationship with Matt, she thinks that this may liven up their relationship and sex life. However, once Becca gets there, she soon realizes that this may not be her scene. She doesn’t like strangers touching her, doesn’t like exchanging partners and doesn’t like the way the lodge owner, Logan keeps looking at her like she’s a feast to be consumed.

Becca was a smart girl whom I really enjoyed reading about. I loved that Cherise kept reminding readers that she was a voluptuous woman with curves and valleys. Though Becca may not see the beauty in herself as she is covered in scars, she doesn’t feel too sorry for herself. She still has that confidence that I liked all my heroines to have. She was smart, sensible and an overall well-written character.

Logan, on the other hand, made my heart trip. I love the Shadowland Doms, but damn, these Mountain Doms know what to do as well! Logan shows the wide-eyed and curious Becca various BDSM techniques, testing her out. What he finds is that Becca isn’t a swinger, but a submissive.

He is damaged by war, experiencing extreme nightmares where he has awakened and injured people, namely his brother, Jake. In an attempt to keep Becca safe and unharmed by him, he pushes Becca away. However, Becca soon realizes that this inexplicable pull between her and her Dom is more than her interest in BDSM. It’s love.

Becca and Logan are great together, explosive even, because the sex scenes between these two are delicious. Cherise Sincalir delivers. Each and every time.

I’m looking forward to Jake’s story, a Dom who is a little more loose compared to his brother. But I won’t expect a less strict Dom because of that. Jake seems like he will be a lot of fun.

Master Simon from Dark Haven seems like another great guy. I cannot wait to read his story as well. He was perfect in this book so reading about him will surely have me begging for more.(less)

Rebecca and Matt might be compatible intellectually, but physically they are not. We learn this right away when Matt reveals to Rebecca that he has been a part of a swingers group. He asks Rebecca to join him in the next get-together. Rebecca reluctantly agrees to go, but quickly finds out that swinging is not her cup of tea. The first night there, she is kicked out of her cabin and ends up sleeping on the porch of the mountain lodge. Logan, who owns the lodge with his brother Jake, finds her freezing and takes her to his bedroom to warm her up.

First, I should mention that Matt is a huge jerk! Rebecca is smart and seems put-together on the outside. Even though the other members of the swinging group show interest and want her to join them in their activities, Rebecca is so insecure of her full-figured, scarred body. She immediately compares herself to the other skinny women in the group. Why would anyone want to be with her? Well, Logan certainly loves his women soft and curvy! It's a huge plus that he sees submissive qualities in Rebecca, and begins to train her right away.

Logan...WOW! As a Dom, he certainly knows what he wants and how to give...and give, and give, and give! There is one outdoor scene that had Rebecca tied up and screaming at the top of the otherwise quiet mountain! Boy, did his training leave her very satisfied and overwhelmed at the same time. Logan has issues as well. As a war veteran, he is plagued with nightmares. He wants more than a long weekend with Rebecca, but he doesn't trust himself to not hurt her.

I really enjoyed Rebecca and Logan's story. They were characters with realistic issues. I also liked how the author gave Rebecca her moment to think things through. I mean, here's a woman who goes to a swinging party only to be thrust into the BDSM lifestyle. I lovehow Rebecca handles everything at the end. Will I read the next book? Heck, yeah! There was just enough of Jake's back story to entice me to read on! Highly enjoyable and highly erotic with intense emotion, I recommend Master of the Mountain to any BDSM fan.(less)

Really great BDSM story, Logan was a great alpha male & Rebecca was a lot more "real" than most female h's.
Although I really wanted to punch Matt in the face & thought Rebecca was an idiot for staying with him!
I always love a book where the POV's switch between H & h and it was never confusing as to whose head you were in.

Upon meeting Rebecca, girlfriend was faking orgasms and thinking she was actually lucky enough to settle for a juvenile pip-squeak of a man who had to ask her how he could get her off. He even has the nerve to lay down an ultimatum that basically said "try swinging with me and 30 other people or we can't be together anymore." WTF?

Well, as others have commented, it all worked out in the end for Rebecca. Her Logan showed her that fulfilling all the requirements on her Perfect Man list doesn't guarantee a perfect man. She realizes she didn't quite know herself or what would satisfy her to begin with, so she does some re-negotiation.

This was a quick read and it flowed on through. There are hints of character development with a few exchanges between Logan and his brother, and further, with the short, but poignant confessions of the past that Logan gets Rebecca share. Despite all that, I needed to feel more from the characters because those hints only frustrated and teased, but then seemed contrived because they fell short. I felt with much more development, Logan, Jake and Rebecca could have packed a punch.

I would have liked to see Rebecca and Logan actually live together more than a four-day sex-ploration of D/s. That is, more of their chemistry and Rebecca's switch from city girl to "Mistress of the Mountain" could have been explored. LOL!

Finally, I would have liked the ending more,...minus the cheesy public affirmation Logan gives to convince Rebecca that,yes, she is desirable. And he spoils that by saying to Rebecca (view spoiler) That was lackluster.

However, the intimate scenes were steamy and the BDSM was light and adequate.(less)

She is a tall curvy woman, who not only has emotional scars, but bears scars on her legs from being bitten by a dog when she was young. Becca lives with her boyfriend Matt in San Francisco. She puts up with alot from Matt, as she doesn't believe she can do any better for herself, and her self esteem is directly tied to her weight.

One day Matt tells her he is swinger and wants to take her up to the mountains to meet with his group. He urges her to try new things, and to lighten up. She decides she will go to the mountains with him, and is turned off by his behavior towards other woman there, so she keeps to herself and one evening she is literally turned out in the cold and rain, only to find herself sleeping outside on a bench. This is when Logan steps up to protect her and take care of all her needs.(and I do mean ALL of those needs.)

Logan introduces her to BDSM, she then becomes his sub for four glorious days. In this short time she realizes she not only likes being his sub, but she has fallen in love with him. Logan fights the emotional attraction to Becca as he fears he will hurt her physically, but they get along quite well as Dom-Sub.

Waking up to a bad nightmare one morning, he leaves abruptly and when he awakes, Becca has left out with Matt to go back to the city. They both try to make sense of what they are truly feeling for each other, and after dramatic changes in her life, she goes to a BDSM Club where she meets a Dom named Simon. Simon realizes she is new, but also knows she has given not only her will, but her heart to another and when Logan walks in the door of "Dark Haven", Simon knows exactly who Becca is involved with. Simon goes over and talks to Logan and tells him that she wants to be with him. Logan confonts her while she is constrained, and he not only addresses her self esteem issues, but he strips her bare of any doubts she has about herself...of being with him, and of all of her clothing.

I loved the scene in the club between Logan and Becca, and how he used her nakedness, a flogger and having others there express what they thought of Becca's body too. He had her so cranked-up she didn't even realize she was naked until the scene was almost done. It was awesome how Logan got her to open up and commit to him and the lifestyle, and how he offered her a job at the lodge, a place to live, and having the time to do what she loves to do. Now she can paint and illustrate children's books like she has dreamed about...all while living with her ideal man! Logan makes her feel attractive, worthy and alive!!

This was a sexy, fun, and romantic read, chalked full of very hot sexing and interesting characters, all with a great HEA.

I read all of Cherise Sinclair's books back-to-back while I was sick with a cold. It's clear that they are imminently readable and have a definite spark, since I read them back to back, so I thought it was only fair that I explain on at least one of the books why I rated them all as a 3. I don't consider a 3 a bad grade at all, but if I'd read these books separately, with months in between, I think I may have rated some of them more highly, as a 4. As it is, I think Ms. Sinclair has a talent for...more I read all of Cherise Sinclair's books back-to-back while I was sick with a cold. It's clear that they are imminently readable and have a definite spark, since I read them back to back, so I thought it was only fair that I explain on at least one of the books why I rated them all as a 3. I don't consider a 3 a bad grade at all, but if I'd read these books separately, with months in between, I think I may have rated some of them more highly, as a 4. As it is, I think Ms. Sinclair has a talent for writing and writes quite cleanly, with enjoyable stories and hot sex. However, having read them all at the same time, I also came to realize that the books were all quite similar, following a similar formula and this became somewhat disappointing for me.

To expand, Ms. Sinclair follows a pattern somewhat like this: Heroine who is a submissive, may not realize she's a submissive and needs to learn to be a better submissive. In 50% of the books, she's had a damaging experience in her history, something that has left her somewhat broken and in need of healing. The heroes are all experienced Doms, all determined not to get into a relationship for various reasons, all become snared by the heroine who is, of course, their perfect submissive.

All of the books have the couples/clubs using the same safe word (red) which I think may be Ms. Sinclair's "thing" but unfortunately lends to the sameness of the books. All of the heroines make a "whine" during sexual experiences. All of the heros have friends or family they're close with who live similar sexual lifestyles, making it seem quite mainstream. The stories interpersonal conflict resolves with the heroine moving past her damaged past and the heros realizing they don't want anyone else to have these submissives.

Don't get me wrong, these are not bad books at all, but I didn't see any growth in them in terms of the author's writing. I think any book that she does that breaks this formula she's found herself writing has the potential to be utterly fantastic, and I'd be right there to buy it. In the meantime, I suspect these books make Ms. Sinclair boatloads of money from fans who love the formula, and I certainly don't fault her for writing them. I'll keep buying future books and look forward to the day when she really breaks the mold! (less)

Matt you're an ass. Plain and simple.

Rebecca, a few things here, love. 1. Why would you let yourself get talked into going to a swingers retreat for an entire weekend? 2. How could you not know this about your boyfriend? 3. If you were against it how would you think it would work out for you two at the end? 4. Faking orgasms? 5. Staying with someone who's on you about your size??? NOPE!

I looooved Logan. He was so gruff, so sexy, so possessive, and so tender. The way he dominated Becca with such purpose and compassion for her insecurities was beautiful…and frickin hot!!!

Becca was a wonderful character. Like Logan, she was scarred inside and out, but she was incredibly brave and so giving of herself. Her moments with Thor were touching. And the journey she took to discover and accept her sexuality and identity was enjoyable.

Oh for crying out loud! I'm not even leaving a review, have you read Sinclair's work? Yes? Okay, than you know her routine. Wow looks like another winning series from Cherise Sinclair!

After reading all but one (the last one is on the to read list) of the Club Shadowlands books and loving them, from a friends recommendation I have moved onto the Master of the Mountain series and I am not disappointed in the slightest!

Things to like about this book: the heroine is older, not physically perfect, a BDSM novice who stumbles as she learns. I read this book some time ago. I remember I really enjoyed it, even though the BDSM thing isn't me. I did have some reservations though. I really liked this story because for once the heroine isn't a size 0 babe. She's a real woman with curves, and like anyone else she has her insecurities. Ever since her father walked out on her mother claiming that she was fat and boring, she's had it drilled into her that the only way to keep a man is to be skinny. I can understand why she might feel that way, however i failed to grasp how she ended up with Matt if she freezes up every time she's seen without her clothes on. When they arrive at the lodge, it's obvious Matt is very well acquainted with everyone, which eludes to the fact that he has been cheating on her for a long time. Yet she's still willing to give this lifestyle a try to save her relationship? WTH? I say kick the asshole to the curb! The jerk didn't even come to her defense when his "pick of the lays" cuts her down and calls her frigid.

Logan, the owner of the lodge, is an Iraq war veteran and he suffers from PTSD. He has nightmares that lead him to act violently when he's caught up in a bad dream. He's even responsible for nearly killing his brother, Jake after a particularly bad episode. Aside from that, he's also a Dom which gives him control in other areas of his life. I loved Logan for his intensity but also for the incredible sweetness that simmered beneath his tough exterior. That man can really make a woman feel good, and I don't mean just physically. He's instantly drawn to Becca's gentle and submissive nature, and it doesn't hurt that he thinks she has a body to die for. I also loved how he made it a point (at least twice) to hint at her fiery passion to the swingers. He eases her into the BDSM lifestyle. She struggles to cope with the revelation that she finds aspects of it enjoyable, but she soon finds herself falling for her mentor. Can they find a HEA in just four days?

I'm glad the swingers too a backseat for the majority of the story. I didn't have a problem with the scenes in this story. I accept the BDSM but not the swingers. To me, they were a very unsympathetic bunch of cheaters who get to be with many different partners. BDSM, on the other hand is like a sexual position. When done correctly, there is trust between a Dom and his Sub, they talk openly about everything and try things together that heighten their experiences. Swingers are just in it for the sex without having to worry about getting caught. I chuckled a lot throughout this story because it reminded me of those teen movies, where the haves snub the have nots. In the end, it seemed that everyone took a sudden interest in Becca just because Logan saw something in her that no one else did.

The BDSM scenes in this story weren't shocking, and you'll probably want a few ice cold drinks to go along with it. Just sayin'.(less)
