Penny Vincenzi (Goodreads Author)
"The Lytton family past is full of secrets. Only one person knows them all and that is Lady Celia Lytton, the family matriarch. Some are more dangerous than others, some entirely her own, others shared with her family, all absolutely safe in her keeping. By far the best of the trilogy, in my opinion (obviously). Once again your favorite characters return (the living ones at least) and the Lytton family drama is in full force. The books seem to focus specifically on three distinct generations while keeping the other ones fresh on the surface and not letting them get too far away. No Angel of course focused on the original Lyttons in their prime such as Oliver, Sebastian, LM and of course Celia. Then Something Dangerous added a little more focus o...more
This is a very thick book to read and from ebook, it contained 720 pages and took me more than a week to read. First of all, i like Penny's writing. Her books are about family saga; filled with love, heartache, sadness, conflicts and betrayal and it is interesting to read. And this book contained all the emotion rolled into one.

I'm so sorry this is over for me! I came to love the characters in this trilogy very much. The third and final volume in The Spoils of Time ties things up very nicely- but not too nicely! Lady Celia is fully redeemed and is a character to be greatly admired. There were a few things that left me wondering but there is sufficient information to allow me to draw my own conclusions about the fate of the second and third generation of Lytton's. Maybe I'll get really lucky and there will someday be a...more
The third and final book in the Lytton Family Trilogy. Penny VIncenzi finished with a bang and I enjoyed every page to the end of this book. I was a little surprised at how she finished up some loose ends and left some still hanging, but all in all, an excellent trilogy. I would highly recommend it for some light, but worthwhile, summer reading.

Sad to see this book and the trilogy end. The Lyttons were such a great family, especially Celia and Barty.
It was sad to see some characters fade into the background, or become rather lame (Giles!) as the fictional years progressed. Really there could be like 10 spinoffs from this book. I enjoyed Izzie, though it seems she might need some counseling, and thought her relationship with Nick was very sweet. Elspeth and Keir I wasn't quite so moved by. He was an ass and Elspeth seems to entirely squ...more

Wow!!! I can't believe that the Lytton Family Trilogy is over. I wish that it would keep going. Vincenzi is a wonderful writer. I loved how she tells a story. She is very creative. Her choice of words and style set her apart from other authors.
The story goes through three generations of the Lytton Family. The development of each character was brilliantly done. I felt like I knew the family personally. I look forward to reading more books by Vincenzi. Her titles would easy turn someone away. The...more

Ok, I am finally finished with the third book of the trilogy. Meaning I have now read 2100 pages about the Lytton family. While it was enjoyable, it was not up to the standard of the first two in the series. I have to admit that reading the two last books back to back might have been too much...and had I given myself a break before jumping into this book I might have enjoyed it more. However, I just don't feel like it really lived up to the quality of the first two. There was not as much researc...more
I loved the first two books of Penny Vincenzi's trilogy about the Lytton family, so I was eager to read this third and last one.
As usual, the characters are vivid, flawed, troubled, and very human. If you've read this trilogy, you've come to know to the Lytton family and those close to them and all of their secrets. "Into Temptation" does not disappoint, except in the sense that the story is brought to a close, the original characters are elderly or dead, and the newer characters seem slightly...more

This book really impressed me because the characters are so wonderfully written and beautifully characterised. Packed with romance, trust, passion and a bit of betrayal. I think Into Temptation is actually my favourite book because it's very romantic, quite funny, and very stylised. It's basically set in London and New York, it's really wonderful. Penny has a way of doing a lot of research and she really cares about the plot.

Such a great read. Fun and frivolous, but not stupid. The story of the Lytton family of England moves into the middle part of the 20th century by the time you get to the last book of the trilogy. The story goes more into the lives of the next generations, but all the while keeping a tie to the earlier generations introduced way back in the first book. The characters you first met as children are all grown up, have children and grandchildren of their own, and each is given their own drama.

I was sad to complete the final book of this trilogy.
Covering 3 generations from the early 20th century through the 1960s, this is a saga of a publishing family in England, centered on a strong matriarch, Celia. There must have been 25-30 characters in all, and they were so well drawn that I had no trouble keeping track of them all.
The plot features the important points of the 20th century, and I hated to say goodbye to those delightful characters.
I'm not usually a fan of the family saga-type novel, but these are incredible. Penny Vincenzi weaves a story like no one else--her characters are so real I feel like they're members of my family. I picked up the first book in this series and didn't come up for air until the last book was over (much to the consternation of my family). When the last book ended, I still wanted to read more! Definitely one of the best guilty pleasures ever!
The final chapters of the Lytton family. These books are a wonderful read. They move quickly yet sustain the characters presented. I loved the first two books and am glad I read "Into Temptation" for the closure it gave. I didn't think the new family members were as well developed or as exciting as the first two books, but as an avid reader, I loved them also.
This was a satisfying read--a nice thick book. I wish that I had realized that it was the third book in a trilogy when I picked it up at the library for .25. I now have the first two books on hold. I am certain that I would have understood more about the relationships between the characters and understood their secrets if I had read the books in order!
Well, this was a delightful treat. I thought I would be tired of the Lyttons by the end of this last book in the trilogy; how very surprising it is to want more of them. This novel is a very fitting end to the story. There were pieces I enjoyed and pieces that made me angry, but I was pretty engaged in most of it. Oh, sure, like the rest of the series, the action is a bit awkward at times, and a little uneven; but the ending made me want to go back and re-read the entire series over.
I was vacillating between three and four stars for this book, but decided to go with four when I realized how much I looked forward to picking it up and how difficult it was to put down. What's better than that?
In all, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the Lyttons and their friends. It's been a long time since I read a sweeping family saga such as this one, and think the quality of the writing helped elevate it above a "guilty pleasure".

Ah the conclusion to Vicenzi's excellent family saga trilogy. These are such indulgence reads, but I can't resist. Such a rich panoply of characters, riveting descriptions of publishing in the 20th century, glimpses into a New York and London of ages past. The plot is over the top and, at times, predictable, but with rich, plummy, sagas, I'm not exactly looking for literary excellence.
I loved this trilogy/series of books, but I do love juicy historical fiction! I love multi-generational sagas and I love to learn about the social "atmosphere" at the time. I loved all three books and read them back to back. I just stumbled on the author one day when I was at B/N just going through the shelves. Good Find!
I've read the 3 book in this trilogy in a row. Let me state first that I love generational stories tied in with historical fiction. I absolutely loved these 3 books. Given that each one is around 700 pages long, you may not want to tackle them in a row as I did, but it's a great way to not forget details from one book to the next. Set in Britain during the same time period as Downton Abbey (which I also adore), this series focuses on the world of publishing set against the history of the time pe...more
It was quite a commitment to delve into a series of 3 books, each of which is over 600 pages long. But I'm SO glad I did! Bits of this book are simply brilliant, such as the part where the main female character heads out into the bombs and fire of the London Blitz in search of her missing daughter. This same main character is so well-drawn that I could actually hear her voice in my head as I read. These books aren't highbrow "litrahchuh", but they are a really broad, big story that is very well...more
I'm surprising myself by giving it four stars, especially when I consider it to be more on the "fluffy" side. However, I think Penny Vincenzi is a skilled writer, with very few wasted lines in such a massive book. You know the tension is being ratcheted up when she goes into lots-of-little-paragraphs mode, switching furiously back and forth between characters and situations. You're never lost, though, and you just want to keep reading a little more -- no, just a little more -- before you set it...more
