The short horror story will always hold a special place in the hearts of people who love English literature. Whether opening an old tome penned by E.A. Poe, or downloading the latest grisly tale by Scott Sigler, the eponymous short horror story is that which lives in the hearts of all those who have ever sat around a campfire listening to a good ghost story. That said, Lincoln Crisler’s Magick & Misery

Magick & Misery isn’t what I’d classify as horror. It isn’t scary at all, actually. Most of the stories end with a bit of nondescript gore or violence, but the rest is just marginally suspenseful buildup to an extremely predictable ending. I certainly wasn’t impressed with the fear factor, but I also doubt twenty-somethings are the author’s target audience; at least I hope not.

MAGICK and MISERY is well worth the price of admission. I pick it up whenever I get 5 or 10 minutes here & there and read another story from it. It's like popping little vitamins of evil when you need a boost during the day. Whenever I'm bored to tears at work, I sneak in a Crisler or two to keep me going.
