Guardian of the Gate is the following up to Michelle Zink's Prophecy of the Sisters. In this installment, we follow Lia as she searches for the missing pages to help her end the prophecy. She travels with her two companions and keys, Sonia & Luisa to Altus, a safe haven for the Sisters to meet her Aunt Abigail. She discovers much about herself, love, & betrayal.

Guardian of the Gate moves us closer to a final showdown between Lia & Alice. I can't wait to see what comes next!

This book was so good. I am emotionally exhausted after reading it. I truly think this whole series has the best thought out and written plot of all the series that I've read.

The storytelling is beautiful and so realistic my stomach was clenching from nerves the entire time. Some of the situations that Lia was in were so hopeless I didn't think she would make it.

The book has a lot more romance than the previous one. Always a big plus. While I found myself wanting to shout at...more

This book started out ok (although it wasn't great) but then it really started to go downhill fast. I was expecting so much more from this book after reading the first one in the series but overall I found myself very disappointed.

The big reason I didn't like this book so much was due to the new love interest, Dimitri Markov, who was introduced. Very quickly, an unnecessary and forced romance developed. I was so angry at Lia for not staying loyal to James! He was everything that Lia ha...more

I’m going to get the negative out of the way first, and I think I am one of the only people who feel this way and I offer humble apologies to Michelle in advance.
The Negative: I hate this cover. I hate the new covers. I loved the original cover for Prophecy of the Sisters and I thought it added so much to the feel of the story itself and had I not already known how much I loved the first book I NEVER would have picked up the books AT ALL had they the covers they have now. I might even go ...more

I'm being a little generous with this, as it's really a 2.5-star book, in large part because it suffers from series-itis: if you haven't read Book One, it will take you a while to get into Book Two (and I hadn't read Book One).

The plot is rather simplistic - battle between Good and Evil, set in vaguely Victorian era London. There's a Prophecy, and twins (Lia and Alice) who appear to be on different sides yet completely linked by this Prophecy. Book Two is largely concerned with a...more

Guardian of the Gate is the second book of the Prophecy of the Sisters Trilogy. I can honestly say that these novels have to be one of my favourite series.
Personally I appreciated every aspect of the book but the cover. The cover choice for Guardian of the Gate was a terrible alternative. Covers attract attention and give a visual idea of what mood the novel will have. Guardian of the Gate is a mature fantasy book, and instead of visualizing that characteristic of the novel it looks like...more

This book , I thought wasn't so great. It wasn't as interesting , nothing really went on in the book so I can't imagine how it's suppose to end in the final book.
Okay , so this book basically was about Lia when she moved away from Alice and moved into if I can recall Aunt Virginia's friend or Lia's relative, ( I've read this book a while back so pardon me for not getting the exact information right) So some events happened and now Lia, Sonia, Luisa accompanied by Edmund is heading to Alt...more

The second novel in the Prophecy of the Sisters series is everything and more than what I was hoping. The magic that Zink created in her first novel is again presented in Guardian of the Gate.

In this installment, Lia is on a journey. She must find that which has been lost in order to fulfill her place in the Prophecy. However, along the way, friendships and relationships are tested as Lia learns that the only true person that she may be able to trust is herself.

Like the previ...more

Dibanding buku kedua ini, Prophecy Of The Sisters tampak seperti prolog yang terlalu panjang. Yes, I like the second sequel better.

In reading over other reviews of this book I noticed someone said they liked this better because it got out of the stuffy house...I guess that it was less gothic mystery and more adventure, and romance. Actually the gothic mystery element of book one is what hooked me in the first place. At times this book felt so different, as if it weren't even related. I think mostly because it was so Lia focused...Alice only appears a times...though she is as creepy as ever.

I thought this book was...more

I have nothing major against the series, they are perfectly good. But what's basically leaving me hanging on the line is the storyline, it's interesting, unique (well, to me) and different. I know all authors put a great deal into their books, but I feel there just needs to be more in this one. I felt the language has alot of cliches and cheezy lines (especially that love declaration in the letter to James from the last one). The first book clears away the mystery of the prophecy, but that's bas...more

Back before our awesome redesign, I started almost every review with a comment on the cover of the book. Covers are important to me – they are, I’ll admit, 90% of the reason I often buy books and 90% of the reason I won’t buy one. I loved the cover of Prophecy of the Sisters, so when I saw that the sequel would be redesigned, I was a sad panda. But I really love the cover for Guardian of the Gate. It perfectly captures the power and intensity of these two sisters and how close they are and yet h...more

I was completely hooked from page one with Guardian of The Gate. I read it in a short amount of time, as I had a hard time putting it down. Guardian of The Gate is Lia's journey to find the lost pages and to find away to defeat her sister Alice. Along the way she learns more about the power she holds, more about herself and where she comes from.

Guardian of the Gate gave me everything I like in a sequel. New characters, romance, the journey of self discovery, twits and turns and even b...more

It hasn't been long since we last saw Lia and Alice, determinedly on different sides of an ancient prophecy that could mean death and destruction for humanity. Now, Lia and the keys, Luisa and Sonia, must make a terribly dangerous journey to a mystical land in order to find out where the missing pages of the prophecy are hidden. They face horrifying dangers along the way, but nothing could prepare them for the betrayal within their own group.

Even while Lia is desperately searching fo...more

I'd been looking forward to the continuation of this story since turning the last page of Prophecy of the Sisters. It felt like a long, torturous wait, but in the end it was worth every second. Guardian of the Gate not only lived up to the amazing story that was started with Prophecy--- for me, it surpassed it. All of the same beauty was there, the sweeping Edwardian surroundings, the charming manners and propriety. The same mystery and magic---but as the adventure continues, its seems that all...more

When I started this book 2 days back , I was vaguely aware of all the controversies , adverse reactions and some loyal supporters this book had garnered in the past few months. Book where a parent talks about how she made sure her children were nothing but ultimate scholastic geniuses with extraordinary musical abilities might not be everybody's cup of tea but ask any Indian of my generation and you'll realize that we all have an Amy Chua albeit of lesser scarier proportions in our families .So...more

First things first, I really dislike the main character. She has like serious problems staying constant, well other than constantly annoying. The whole thing with Dimitri is just so frought with peril and just plain dumb I can scarce believe it. I am expecting him to be a major betrayal since the book points out again and again how the souls will use anyone close to her towards benefiting their goal. Sadly, I am really looking forward to this since it is only right considering what she has d...more

As the final battle in the prophecy nears, twin sisters Lia and Alice prepare themselves to what to come. As Alice rallies the Souls and becomes stronger, Lia travels to London in hopes of finding a way to stop the prophecy. But the Souls prove more persistent than Lia has ever imagined. Even as she struggles with her frail friendship, entangling herself in Sisterhood politics, they Souls are bent on thwarting her already difficult mission.

I loved the first book. It set the grounds fo...more

ARC! (see full review at http://thepagesofbrooks.blogspot.com/)

I received this ARC from the Teen Author Carnival on May 24, 2010. Michelle Zink was there, spoke and answered questions in a panel of other authors, and stayed around to sign books. Afterward, since I'm all buddy-buddy with one of the people in charge of TAC, I was waiting around outside the building and had the pleasure of really talking to Zink. Turns out she's pretty fantastic (even her kids are awesome - though I'm a...more

It got a little racey, folks! Definitely PG-13! (in the romance department)
I liked the idea of this plot, but nothing much seemed to happen by the end of the book. This is pretty much how it goes - Lia is running away from various creatures, trying to figure out what to do next, while being helped by people she doesn't know if she can trust. I'm wishing there was a little more thinking involved in the plot. There are plenty of opportunities to add mystery and twists, but it seems most of t...more

It's kind of closer to three and a half stars really, but it was better than the first. Good action and a much better love interest in Dimitri. I saw a lot of the "twists" coming and it was too...flowery and prosey in a lot of areas. I kept finding myself saying, "YES I know, get on with it!" I still think a lot of things are unexplained and confusing. I mean WTF Altus? Where did that come from? I think there should've been some explaining from the society in the beginning. A...more

So I did it. I continued reading. I half wish I hadn't. Why, Why, Why does there have to be another man she loves after James? Why does ever book lately have two men posturing for a female's attention, both of them utterly perfect in every way, both of them utterly devoted to the heroine? So tired of seeing the same story again.

Speaking of the same story, you can be forgiven for feeling a little like you're reading lord of the rings at one point. The water crossing, hell demons that ...more

My review of Guardian of the Gate by Michelle Zink is based on a hardcover copy of the book that I borrowed from my local library. The following review is my honest opinion.

As the numbers of books in a series grow I expect to see the same in the characters they tell the stories of. There's nothing worse than having a character that resolutely stays the same or has no room to grow or change. Obviously Michelle Zink knew this well. In Guardian of the Gate Lia begins to show signs of gr...more

This book was not as good as the last book. While it did have more action and the journey was good, the book did not meet my expectations. I thought that we might see more of Sonia and some of the other previous characters.

While the book was good and I wanted to read on to see if Lia found the pages or not I didn't like the new guy introduced in the book. He was my biggest disappointment. Lia meets Dimrti briefly in London and then while she is on a journey she meets him again. They d...more

The second book in Michelle Zink's series was just as unputdownable as the first. The Guardian of the Gate was a fast-paced read in which Lia continues her journey to end The Prophecy of the Sisters forever. Its not as easy as it seems, especially when your biggest enemy is your very own twin.

Lia still resides in London, an ocean away from her heartless sister Alice, who lives in New York. Yet, even an ocean apart, Alice knows every action Lia takes, because of her use of forbidden mag...more

I would have given this book 5 stars but it lost a star for, im my opinion, it's boring beginning. It took me a while to read this book, and not because I am a slow reader, which I'm not, but because it took me ages to get into it. But when I did, the story captivated me and soon, I found that I could not put this book down
