Swimsuit is the latest book James Patterson has written. I wish I could say that I've read all of his books like many other faithful reviewers, but truthfully, I've only read about ten. But from my experience with Patterson and his slew of coauthors, I know that his books tend to grab on to you from the beginning, lead you through a suspenseful and twisty storyline, and let you off safely at the end. They aren't very thought-provoking or seen as classics, but they are ...more

I loved this book. Patterson's pairings with other authors so far have been ok, but not up to the standard of his two series of books - Alex Cross and Womens Murder Club. This one though, was definitely up there with the best of them.

WOW! I know I say this about alot of James Patterson books but this one takes the cake for sure. I had my nose in the book for hours. I got the book out from the library and I had 7 days to read it. I read it in 5 days. It was outstanding. The book just kept you on your seat. You could visualize everything going on. I don't want to wreck anything for you by reading my review but this is a must read. I thought the ending was perfect and that the book was complete. Extremely well written. I wou...more
I have truly enjoyed the Cross' series by James Patterson, but have not been a fan of those books that are co-authored by him. While Patterson's name appears in bold letters on the cover, am not sure how much of his contribution goes into such books. For none have never even closely matched the Patterson's classics like Along Came A Spider and Kiss The Girls. Swimsuit kinda reiterates the same point. As can be expected from a Patterson book, there is a deranged serial killer on the prowl. The se...more
James Patterson fascinates me. He writes something insane like three or four books a year. All of them bestsellers. Always. MADNESS!! But wow go James!
I am a huge fan of crime fiction, though these days I kind of feel like I should give it a break for a while. I’m tired of predicting story lines and culprits within the first tenth of whichever book it is that I’m reading. This is not the fault of the writer. It is my fault. I’ve just read too many of them. Subconsciously I get the book...more

Just awful! How do so many people like James Patterson??? I am hoping this is just the worst thing he has ever produced, because it sucked. My poor boyfriend! I made him listen to it with me on a long roadtrip and in the middle of the last disc he literally LOST IT and could not listen to it anymore. Maybe listening to it made things worse because the guy reading the book sounded like one of those cheesy movie voice-over guys with the rough, masculine, fake voice and whenever he did the wom...more
I was in the middle of another book when I was notified by my library that this book was on the hold shelf with my name on it. I started it at the end of a very long and exhausting weekend, so when I picked it up again on Monday evening, I thought that my ambivalence about the book had to do with the fact that I hadn't been focused in reading the first several chapters (which in most books would be "few" chapters ;-). I read a little farther and decided to go to sleep . . . read a bit ...more
I really liked it. I've read several reviews where the reviewers didn't give it great marks, but as a mystery and suspense author myself I really appreciated the way the story built and the subtle clues to some of the diabolical twists were handled.

I HATE James Patterson. I only picked this book up because I felt the need to look at one more piece of evidence before I wrote him off indefinitely. It took less than 100 pages for me to stand by my original impression.
Here is an example of WHY I hate James Patterson: "He looked like the actor from the latest James Bond movie, Daniel Craig"
And another, albeit this one is paraphrased: "They slept heel to heel in their Sleep Number bed."

The tag-team that brought us the more recent volumes in the Women's Murder Club series presents a whole new title with this book, which focuses on the disturbing world of snuff films. When Kim McDonald, a supermodel doing a shoot in Hawai'i, goes missing, many people assume she has just taken an unscheduled break. Unfortunately, she is really the most recent victim of a man who goes by the name Henri Benoit. Henri has been hired by a group calling themselves the Associates to go around killing y...more

I am kind of laughing while reading these reviews. Hey folks, lighten up. This book isn't that bad -- it was gory, yes, and full of lots of unnecessary violent killing -- but isn't that why you like this genre and why you picked up this Patterson novel? It's exactly the book you've come to associate with him and his team of co-authors. Fast-paced, s...more

I have been a fan of James Patterson for quite awhile and enjoy almost all of his books including this one...but it was somewhat difficult to follow as it doesn't seem to flow together as well as most of his others.
This one follows Henri Benoit, a serial killer who videos his murders for a group called the Alliance. Henri is also a master of disguise, making it very difficult for police to locate him. Ben Hawkins, a retired LA Police officer, is currently working as a crime repor...more

I heart James Patterson. He is one of my favorite authors and Alex Cross is one of my favorite series. When I hear about upcoming releases by Mr. Patterson, they immediately are added to my TBR list. So, I eagerly anticipated the release of Swimsuit.
Granted, I knew very little about the synopsis. A swimsuit model goes missing in Hawaii and her parents head there to learn more about her disappearance. A former cop turned author (also a crime reported for the LA Times) is also on the ...more

Swimsuit by James Patterson & Maxine Paetro is the first story I have listened to by either author but I must say it was a very intense can't put it down read. I'm not a big fan of the blood and guts thing but this was more about how the murder got away with what he did and the intensity of the criminal mind in itself.
The story focuses on swimsuit models being horribly murdered in Hawaii right under the law enforcements very noses. The killer is a serial killer of the highest quality...more

Syd, a breathtakingly beautiful supermodel on a photo shoot in Hawaii, disappears. Fearing the worst, her parents travel to Hawaii to investigate for themselves, never expecting the horror that awaits them.
LA Times reporter Ben Hawkins is conducting his own research into the case, hoping to help the victim and get an idea for his next bestseller. With no leads and no closer to uncovering the kidnapper's identity than when he stepped off the plane, Ben gets a shock...more

WOW! While reading this sometimes I thought how nicely presented this story was, then I'd change my mind and understand just how murderous has this novelist become with his protagonist? Dehumanizing, monstrously, defiling, murderous! Strangulation, beheading, cat & mouse games and not like Tom & Jerry. More like immoral, detached, insensitive, over the edge debauchery whereby nothing is sacred - not even personal integrity. This was not a Jack and the Beanstock story, but one of betrayal to comm...more

I was surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this book - because right from the start I wasn't quite feeling it. The main story picked up steam very quickly and even though we know who the killer is from right about the start, we don't know why he is doing what he is doing. The suspense kept building...and then the ending was a little bit of a letdown. I felt like it sort of stopped and then the epilogue was supposed to smooth over the abruptness - but I could have used an extra chapter or...more
This is different than every other James Patterson book I have read. Typically the book centers around a murder or a string of murders and you follow along as the authorities try to apprehend the killer. Swimsuit started out the same way, with the abduction and murder of a beautiful model. Only, this storyline only occupies the first third of the book. The remaining part centers around the killer and his desire for the world to know his story. You have to keep in mind though that the author...more
James Patterson’s newest novel Swimsuit, written with frequent collaborator Maxine Paetro (The Women’s Murder Club novels), is touted as being “the scariest and most satisfying James Patterson novel since Kiss the Girls.” Granted, that claim is directly lifted from the book’s inside flap, but it’s still quite the proclamation. After all, Kiss the Girls represents an author at the height of his story-telling prowess.

This was the unabridged audiobook on CD edition (6 CDs/7 hours).
This was my first Patterson experience and I was pleasantly surprised. The book was fast paced and engaging.
Henri was certainly industrious throughout the book. After this guy, Dexter isn't half bad. Henri is more of a Hannibal Lecter than anything.

This is by far my favorite Patterson book I have read (at least up to this point, but there are so many more to read). The story is exciting and the villain of the tale is such a great character. Actually, I found myself liking the psychotic killer and was almost rooting for him...very odd. The tale is about a former police officer, turned author, turned newspaper writer, going to Hawaii to report on a missing swimsuit model. While down there he gets in with the parents of the missing girl a...more
I have read a couple of Patterson's other novels; " Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, and " Sundays at Tiffany". I love his writing, and this book did not dissapoint. It was a totally different book for me, because I have not read a murder mystery in several years. I just had not found one that peaked my interest. Stephen King is a little too Sadistic as well as a few others for my taste. Even though the novel was graphic, and at times difficult to get through, Patterson's ability to ...more
This is the first complete audiobook that I have listened to. I must say that I really enjoyed the narrator and how he told the story. The details of the characters allowed you to really picture everyone that Patterson is talking about. The accents that are added to each person allows you to realize who is talking.
I liked the mystery and suspense that was in this story. Just as you think it's solved a wrench was thrown in and you back on the hunt again. Henry is a diverse character ...more

I picked this book up at Borders at Dulles Airport after I realized I'd left my iTouch in Walt's cousin's car, and thus had nothing to read on the plane. It's a quick, easy read, lots and lots of sadism and gore about a serial killer who wants his life story to be written and terrorizes an author into doing it. It has a gripping beginning that catches you right away, but the further you read, the more boring it becomes (ho-hum, another murder...) and it has an unsatisfying ending that just pet...more
Fascinating profile of a psychopathic killer. The story is chilling and the details eerily complete. At times, Ben Hawkins seems so real that the reader will forget he is a fictional character and not the author of this thriller.
This killer is a truly terrifying individual. The way he comforts his victims, offering hope until the last second is frightening. He professes to love his victims and sometimes it’s almost believable. This is a killer like no other. Be prepared to lose...more

I do love James Patterson, however I am starting to wonder if he should scrap this whole co-writing thing and get back to basics.
I did enjoy this book, the beginning was hard to get through. It was a tad more graphic than most of his previous books I've read. I actually considered not finishing the book because it just wasn't sitting well with me. I made it through and the middle and the end were fantastic.
