The unseen assailant attacked Dr. Miranda Jones outside her Maine home as she returned from a busy lecture tour. After terrorizing her with a knife held to her throat, he stole her purse, slashed her tires, and disappeared. Shaken and bruised, Miranda was determined to put the assault out of her mind, and welcomed the distraction offered by a summons to Italy to verify the...more

Dr. Miranda Jones, an expert on authenticating Italian Renaissance bronzes, has the opportunity of a lifetime. She is called to Italy by her mother to authenticate a 15th century bronze, The Dark Lady, but her trip is delayed when she is mugged outside her house. After testing the bronze, Miranda is certain that it is an undiscovered work of young Michelangelo, but this information is leaked to the press and she is fired. Then the bronze is discovered to be a fake, and her reputation is ruined...more

Before there was a DaVinci Code, Nora Roberts wrote Homeport, a novel that, while still ensconced in the romance genre, has enough mystery and intrigue to also place it firmly in the category of mystery or fiction.

::: Dr. Miranda Jones :::

Homeport centers on Dr. Miranda Jones, the product of a well-to-do, old-money family from Jones Point, Maine. Miranda and her older brother Andrew both have their doctorates in areas of the arts, with Miranda's specialty being the dating and...more

This was one of my first Nora Roberts and I loved it the first time I read it... and I still love it now, perhaps even more now that I've read it in English LOL :) I have to admit that I have a fondness for cat burgler/art thief plot :)

So what do I love about this book? Basically everything :) I love Miranda and Ryan's chemistry and relationship :) They are so different and Ryan definitively makes Miranda happier. Miranda is a great heroine... strong, but at the same time, vulnerable. ...more

At this point, I was figuring I'd just finish off what strip-covers I had left on the shelf. Lo and behold! The last one on the shelf is by Nora Roberts! Yummo! And, as usual, I was not let down. Fast-paced, fun, smart characters, interesting backdrop (the worlds of art authentication and theivery), steamy sex, some murder for good measure. Nothing amazing—but definitely good, solid Roberts.

This book is one of my favorites.. I loved everything about this book. The drama. The suspense. The secondary love story. Everything!

I liked that Miranda was somewhat reserved with her feelings about what's going on between her and Ryan. I also liked it that Miranda made a name for herself and is so composed with her work while when it comes to Ryan, she just loses herself and regrets everything. And I liked that Ryan kept pushing her with her feelings. At the beginning, I hated the...more

Apesar de toda a aparênci...more

Okay, kids. I read the Reader's Digest condensed version, so if there was crud in the original...I wouldn't know. Once again...great mystery-romance-escapist-literature from my 50 cent thrift store purchase.

Blurb from cover, "Renaissance masterpiece or clever fake? That's what art scholar Miranda Jones must decide about a beautiful bronze statue that's been unearthed in Italy. Miranda's search for the truth leads her deep into a labyrinth of larceny and murder. and her only way...more

I enjoyed this story... a little romance, a little mystery. Miranda knows her art, especially renaissance art and is co-CEO of her family's art institute in Maine... Ryan, with a legitimate family run and sucessful art galleries across the country, is also a very sucessful and selective art thief. And of course, once they meet, they cannot live without one another. the mysteries: who mugged Miranda? who is trying to ruin her career & life by substituting a fake bronze for the real Michealan...more

Fair enough. Predictable story, straight-forward writing, nothing really to be learned from this book, besides what type of book gets gobbled up by the masses and how to write sex scenes that the average woman will enjoy reading. :)

I started reading it because I wanted to poke around and see what sort of thing people love to read. Action, conflict, drama, surprising romance. I guess it's no surprise, but ya know, had to check. The story did have me burning through the pages to see if I...more

3 and a half stars. I liked the main characters, Miranda she was a strong female character, intelligent, but a little frustrating at times. For example, she and Ryan (the male main character) are trying to work out the 'who dunnit' mystery together, yet Miranda doesn't tell him about the threats she is receiving by email and fax. If they're trying to work out who it could be, you would think it logical that she would mention this to him, as there are clues in the threats, yet she shoves them ...more

I enjoyed this book. It's a fairly typical Nora Roberts book in terms of plot and characters but I like this particular book a bit better than some of her others. It's a solid read and keeps moving the entire time. The one downside is that, like many of her other books, once you've read it, you've read it and it's difficult to reread again right away because the mystery is gone. I read it once as a teenager and again about ten years later when I had forgotten the ending which made it exciting to...more

All the steps leading and with history of the Jones. its exciting, thrilling, and keeps you on your toes by trying to figure out who the killer is and what its got to do with Miranda Jones. I like this book because it not only puts you in the mind of a killer it also shows how, why women have there moments in time, and that if we ever want something to go after it and reach it. It's also good because it puts you on the edge of your seat just to find or think about what is going to happen next. T...more

Adorei o livro. Tenho que ser sincera. Surpreendeu-me imenso pela positiva. Há muito que não lia um romance no mais puro sentido deste género literário.
A acção passa-se entre o Maine e Florença. Em Maine, está Mirando e Andrew a trabalhar...more

I recently re-listened to this book by Nora Roberts. It was a good stand alone story about the Jones of Jones Point, Maine. The story opens with Miranda being mugged and then traveled to Florence to authenticate a statue. From the very beginning it was easy to see that there was tension in her family. With a debacle over the notes and sent back home in disgrace, she went to work at the Art Museum with her brother. Ryan Boldari wooed her as no one had ever done. With burglary and more disgr...more

I unlike some others reviewing the book found this to be one of Nora Roberts better books. She is not my favorite author by far but I found this entertaining and I liked the art as part of the story line. I also liked how the 2 main characters were able to bring about changes in each other because of love that was lacking in Miranda's like and also her brother was able to find happiness that had been with him all along. I may be a sap for love stories sometimes but I like to think there are l...more

I did enjoy this, It follows the typical nora roberts formula which, to be honest is why people read it,unfortunately my enjoyment of this book was pretty much ruined due to the fact that i kept getting sidetracked by the amazing amount of spelling mistakes and basic errors that kept appearing, This however is down to only one publisher which is a crying shame.

Aside from that, this was a good book, an enjoyable read and a plesant way to spend some time.

I liked this book except for a few things. One: I thought the name was stpid, it had nothing to do with the story at all. Two: The author dropped this "revelation" about Miranda at the end but htere was never any confrontation with her father about it. I also wish Andrew had been more of a haracter. I did figure out that it was Elise about 3/4 of the way through the book. Overall, pretty good & interesting subject matter.

This book had its good and bad points. It was thick with suspense and detail but sometimes the action diminished everything that was happening. It reminded me of some of Roberts' other work at times: The Stars series for instance, as well as Thomas Crown Affair and To Catch a Thief. Still, Ryan and Miranda were very likable and I enjoyed the secondary plot with Andrew and Annie.

Really loved this book. I think this was the 1st Nora Roberts book that I read. Loved the chemistry and the constant "misunderstandings" between the 2 main characters. Loved the fact that Miranda was trying so hard not too like the Ryan. At the same time loved the fact that Ryan had a bit of blue-collar in him but had enough sophistication for Miranda.

Miranda Jones is summoned to Florence, Italy to authenticate a renaissance bronze called the Dark Lady. This job nearly destroys her reputation when her professional judgment is called into question. Along comes Ryan Boldari, an art thief, who ends up helping Miranda prove that her assessment was correct and keeps her from being murdered.

Nora Roberts addresses many of the same issues which readers enjoy in the work of Fern Michaels. Themes of abandonment, betrayal, grief and the healing power of love prevail in her Contemporary Romances and Romantic Suspense, and many of her stories offer her female protagonists a second chance in life and career as wells.

I bought this book because it has a nice painting of the Bass Harbor lighthouse on the cover. I didn't read the synopsis, and it was completely different than I was expecting. The art-infused storyline wasn't my favorite, but I made it through. This wasn't my favorite Nora Roberts book, by far.

Unlike half of the NR books I read, didn't figure out the bad guy until the last part. Also enjoyed the chemistry between the two main characters and the secondary characters too. If it seemed a wee bit "Thomas Crowne Affair", it was alright with me because I enjoy that movie.

A bit of a disappointment. I like Nora Roberts but this one the plot was rushed. Normally when the conclusion comes you see look back and have an oh duh moment. this time it was out of left field, and I can't be bothered to care about the characters for longer then the length of the page.

I found this book very thrilling...started by Miranda getting mugged-went on with art burglar coming on her-doing business together-romance-murder-business-framing-the end!

kept me on my toes while reading it! couldnt put the book down!!!

I throughly enjoyed this book!

Took me a while to get into this one, but it was a plesant read. I can say that I figured out who the villain was pretty early on and I'm usually really dense about that.

It's worth the read for Nora's characteristic vivid descriptions of art, Florence, and Maine.

This book is one of my favorites...The plot was great...I could have guessed who the mystery person was but it was still well written and fun to read! I really suggest this as a read...just an FYI...this is one of those "intense" scene books -- so be aware...
