The Big Storm: A Very Soggy Counting Book by Nancy Tafuri is abook about weather, nature, animals and counting.

As clouds roll in, rain starts to pour, and thunder rumble, ten woodland animals scurry to find shelter. The text counts up as Bird, Mouse, Squirrel, Rabbit, Chipmunk, Woodchuck, Raccoon, O'Possum, and Red Fox all run for cover, then Skunk squeezes in to make it 10! They huddle together all night in the safety and warmth of the hollow as the thunder claps and lightning flashes outside....more

This story was very cute and simple. The simplicity of it made it so that conversations can easily arise from it, and help with numbers. The illustrations were beautiful and they really added to the story. The story would be best for little kids, especially for a bed time story. This book would be good in a preschool classroom, or for younger children. Not only does it teach kids the number sequence, but it also teaches kids how to count backwards as well. There were no morals to the story, but...more

This was a really cute counting book about a group of animals taking shelter from a storm. I will be using this one for story time very soon. I think it would make an excellent flannel board story which I will make as soon as I find the time.

This was a book that teaches children how to count from one to ten as well as backward from ten to one. I really didn't care to much for this book it was not very good and my four year old did not to enjoy it when I read it to her.

This is a counting book involving animals who need to take shelter from a storm. The counting goes forwards and backwards, so great for students who are practicing this skill. Cute story that readers will enjoy.

The numeric staggering at the end of the book is a little awkward, but still a great concept book to use for storytime. This book has potential for math (counting) and science (hibernation, season and weather)
Lori Smith
This book is appropriate for grades PreK through 1. It supports the teaching of weather patterns. A teacher could also use the illustrations of the book to discuss seasons, particularly autumn.

A great book for a readaloud. It's fun to get the kids you're reading for to act out the parts of the storm. The lighting cracks! The thunder rumbles! Very nice artwork, too.

Enjoyed the theme of change of seasons and hibernation, but there are definitely better and more enjoyable counting books out there. Not a book to add to your personal library.

Fun counting book that is good to read inside on a cold, wintry day. Our girls enjoyed this book. With the repetitive narrative, they had fun finishing the words for me.
Katie
As usual, beautiful illustrations from Tafuri. Counts up to 10 then back down again once the animals realize they have more to fear than just a little thunder!
Catherine Woodman
Not a good counting book--too hard to follow for the beginning counter, and the illustrations were uninterstingly rendered.

Worked out well at a pre-school story just after Hurricane Sandy passed. I read it with some Halloween Books...

Wonderful illustrations, perfect for a toddler. I am not much for counting books, but this one just couldn't be better.

I found this book to be very cute. It's a good counting book as it counts up to ten and then down from ten.

Natalie was wandering around too much for me to remember this one now ten days later. Something about animals getting out of the rain. I believe there was a bear in the cave at the end.
Amanda
Nice counting book. Quick read, good for naptime/bedtime. Goes through 11 woodland creatures.
Melissa
My preschoolers enjoyed this one, especially since we did sound effects and actions.
