A savage murderer preys on young women, first romancing, then butchering them. That same summer, someone begins targeting men, gunning them down with .25 caliber weapons. Could these two seemingly different rampages be the work of a single serial killer? Veteran homicide team Frank Quinn, Pearl Kasner, and Larry Fedderman slowly but doggedly pick up a clue here, a thread there, but no clear picture emerges until, gradually, Quinn realizes that the killer that he is hunting is now hunting hi...more

It seems that random men are being murdered around town, gunshot to the head. The crime scenes indicate that these are not robberies but each man has a pocket that is turned inside out, as if the murderer found something worth killing for. Quinn, a retired cop, and his team are asked to look into the murders before they gain too much publicity. Quinn and team are baffled after following every minuscule lead. While the investigation continues women are being murdered in the most horrific way, ev...more
This book was okay---there was nothing memorable about it. The main characters are forgettable, the plot is better than average, and the writing is good. However it was enjoyable enough to get me on and keep me on my exercise bike and that was its purpose.
The main characters are three retired NYC detectives called back as a special squad to work outside normal channels to investigate a serial killer who shoots his victims at close range with no apparent motive. Another series of kil...more

John Lutz is a terrific writer who receives very little recognition for his police procedurals. The characters in his Frank Quinn series are memorable for their uniqueness, his books are always well plotted, and New York City comes alive as he describes the city in all its glory and blemishes. Lutz' novels are perfect airplane or beach escapist entertainment.
Another new author for me, John Lutz writes a good murder mystery. I found the extremely large number of characters and similar character names confusing for awhile, but the plot is intricately drawn with constant plot twists.
This series by John Lutz takes the reader into the life of detectives who specialize in finding serial killers. Pretty bloody in the details, but I've read a couple because I was focusing on the detectives and their lives.

I seldom don't finishing a book once I start it, and when I don't finish it, I will give it the "at least 100 pages" chance. This book was so bad that I had a hard time getting to the 100th page

This book started kinda slow for me. I like a pick up and go. It wasn't a bad book just not a go go go! there were a couple spots but for the most part not a bad read.
I enjoyed this book with Frank Quinn. The plots moves along and even though there are subplots and many characters I found it held my attention to the end.
Story is scripty.... its a readable book but its just OK so far.... I am kind of confused on which seriel killer they are after... seems like two... but it seems they are only investigating one so far.... I tend to forget the characters till I read a bit and it all comes back to me.... may have to change star rating to one... Just an OK book
This book was a free one I downloaded to my Kindle. It was okay, but some of the murder scenes were too graphic and morbid for my taste.
A great addition to the "Kill" series. Another twisted plot that kept me guessing. I had thought that Zoe the psychoanalyst would have been in on the murders somehow but I was wrong. I loved the ending and how it leaves things hanging about the realtionship with Pearl.
Way too wordy. The action parts of the book were intruiging and enjoyable but they were padded with too much fluff between.
The main story was good but there were a couple side stories that didn't need to be in the book, just made it confusing.
I'd give it 2.5 stars if it were offered. Just okay. Three story lines - really? There's one story line that added nothing (the Hobbs story line). The book closes with that story line and I thought "why was this even included". The other two story lines sort of worked together. Honestly, the book could have been better just following the slicer line.
started of nicely with suspence and an intricate plot but the writer never kept the peaked suspence. readible
Right now I'm just trying to get thru the book. Way to many characters and subplots to keep track of...but much like any book I start, I'll finish this one. Not one I'll recommend.
The three "Kill" books were very good chilling reads. I liked the main characters a lot and hope they appear again.
The load of characters got me frustrated. I didn't think much about the ending. I felt it was kind of a let down after all the build up.
However, overall the writing was good.

Ugh! Do not read this book. Under any circumstance. I started it and was drawn in by the FIVE story-lines going on at once. "Okay," I thought to myself, "I can't wait to see how he ties all this together!" Well, guess what? He didn't. One of the storylines was never even tied into the main plot, it just was there like some random sub-plot (that had absolutely nothing to do with anything else). The editor of this book should be slapped across the face. As should John...more
Good mystery - kind of gross though
I've enjoyed John Lutz books but I'm not crazy about this one. A whole side story about an abused wife was included for some unknown reason. Another story about Pearl's "mole" made no sense - no doctor would send the results of a biopsy through the mail if there was a malignancy. Ending was not satisfying.
I got this book as a free Kindle download and feel like that was still too much to pay. Pure garbage and I'm a little embarrassed I actually read the whole book.
Well-written thriller with very good characters and a good story. Unfortunately, the ending was not very well pulled together, keeping it from getting four stars. Still a good read.
I read In For The Kill and didn't really care for it, but thought I'd give this one a try since the reviews made it sound like a good read. I didn't care for this book much either, way too many things in it that didn't really need to be said. Confusing at times, tried to get through it as fast as possible just to finsh it. Not good enough to keep you interested if your looking for something to hold your attention.
It was pretty good. After Lawrence Norfolk, I needed something very focused.
Realy like Lutz. Mystery and great story telling.
Am Nutz for Lutz.
