When I first started “Scarred for Life” by Fredric A. Almond, Sr., the preface had me just sitting there with my mouth hanging open. There was nothing I could say except… miracle.

Fredric was not supposed to live but he did. He tells the horrific story of how he was in a situation where no one expected him to live except himself. When you see that this book is a true story about Fredric A. Almond Sr. and read that he was stabbed 39 times you might think that this will be a book about what happened and how he tried to seek revenge. This is not the case AT ALL.


This book was short but very powerful. Not only was Fredrick stabbed at the young age of 11, but his 33 year old mother was also stabbed 50 times and killed by a burglar. He was very lucky to have lived to tell this story. I felt sorry for him when I read about how h...more

I hate to rate this low because it's a true story, but it was way too preachy for me. I couldn't get past the "my savior Jesus" every other paragraph (go ahead, crucify me for it). Just not my cup of tea, though the author's triumph over tragedy is to be commended.
