Bruce Wilkinson opens You Were Born For This with the strongest aspect of the book, an anecdote, and this continues throughout as these moving stories, peppered into what otherwise may have been a Holy Spirit *how-to* book, saves an otherwise repetitive work which could do with some concision.

Inspiring and unsettling.
Inspiring: God has an agenda to bless many people. He wants to do it through us. We need to tune in to His nudges. These things usually aren't planned by us, we just need to be attentive, committed, and ready.
Unsettling #1: Loose definition of "miracles," though his usage might qualify under the to-coincidental-to-be-an-accident type.
#2 Too many examples come from the context of traveling and meeting strangers. That's not where More...

Wilkinson hit it big with his best-selling “The Prayer of Jabez,” which I thought was an inspiring book but frustratingly short and simplistic. This time Wilkinson writes much more in depth on a topic that has confounded many a Christian. Why don’t I see miracles in my life? Wilkinson outlines that God is ready to deliver but is waiting to use us as His instruments if we’ll only be open to His leading.

Some people may be confused by this book if they don't read the synopsis, as the subtitle is, "Seven Keys to a Life of Predictable Miracles." Most people will assume this means miracles in their own life. That's not what this book is about. It's about being a servant of God and letting Him use you to deliver miracles to other people.
I think the whole idea of the book is great. Being open to God to help give others miracles is a wonderful thing for which to strive. More...

The premise of this book is wonderful, that we can be the vehicle through which miracles are delivered. And, we can do this every day. It goes beyond doing a good turn or paying it forward. Bruce Wilkinson describes how God performs a miracle, but needs help to deliver it. That’s where we all come in. Think of those chance encounters with strangers that leave you thinking “It was a miracle.” or “What a coincidence, it’s exactly what I hoped would happen.” We often get a sense that we shoul

Review note: I won this book through preview.
You Were Born For This takes a strong Christian perspective on relating to God and understanding compassion and kindness as an instrument of God's relationship with humanity. Although Wilkinson's concept of active faith is not a new one, his theology of the purpose of humanity within God's "big picture" of miracle-making does, in some ways, challenge more traditional concepts of passive religious practice and nature of "ha More...

This book is beautifully written. I took my time reading this since there are so many thought provoking suggestions on each page. I have been praying some of the prayers suggested and have begun looking for ways to be part of an everyday miracle. Also, it helps me see many experiences in my past that were miracles.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to delve into having their lives be filled with more meaning. Anyone who wants to learn more about how we can be God's messenger a More...

I won this book. First book I won, it was like a small miracle in that!! Just finished it and really liked it. I can see how anyone can help facilitate miracles by paying attention to the signals given to them by GOD. We just have to pay attention. In fact, just before finishing it, I was given a "nudge" (read the book!), was ready for it and able to put what I learned to good use. It was a very fast and easy read and I finished it in just a few sittings. I plan on sharing this book wi

You Were Born for This by Bruce Wilkinson is a intriguing follow-up to the best-selling Prayer of Jabez. Wilkinson wants readers to know that the Age of Miracles didn't end with the New Testament. Miracles are happening every day all around us, and God wants us to be a part of them. He has countless more miracles He intends to create, but He wants to act through each of us. Wilkinson uses powerful tales of miracles he's been blessed to be a part of to illustrate the five points of being a Miracl

This book has a truly wonderful message, who doesn't want to be a vehicle for Gods miraculous agenda? That being said, it was overdone, too long, and didn't come together very well. I felt as though the author was trying to hard to "sell" us on our God given ability to help others. The stories he uses to drive home some of his ideas are flimsy, and there were far too many steps and keys laid out for the reader. In earlier chapters the author brings up a key point and then tells you t

The message of this book is a good one - open yourself to be part of the flow which directly affects others' experience in positive and unexpected ways. I personally found the Christian language to be a bit much for my taste, but can see how others would really like this. What I found interesting is that this is really giving a very similar message to other "new age/new thought" writers but using a Christian vocabulary that may be more palatable to many Americans. Good message, just

I was given this book as a Christmas gift from a good friend. When I first looked at the summary on the back cover, I was intrigued, yet reluctant. I normally wouldn't read missionary Christian literature, but I felt that my friend had given me this book for a reason and that I was obligated to give it a chance.

Super Christian bent how you as an individual can make miracles happen to others by unlocking the money key (you give money to others by carrying around God's money in your wallet and giving to a person in need), the dream key (helping people understand what their life dream is and somehow helping them follow it), the forgiveness key (convincing people to forgive someone in the past so that they can become free again and live). Interesting and somehow quite unbelievable how many people he helpe

Unfortunately no matter how I tried I couldn't get into this book, and that's unusual for me. The title promises so much, but I felt it was undelivered. It was a little too much like one of those sermons on a hot summer's day that you feel might never end.... If you want to capture my interest you have to deliver your message a little more uniquely than this. Bruce Wilkinson's writing style may be someone's cup of tea, but certainly not mine.

The first half of the book was interesting and good food for thought and for memories. The rest of the book just repeated itself. As in many books written by preachers who follow outlines, the book form contains much too much repetition. This is the same author team who wrote The Prayer of Jabez, which was a business bestseller. Good book until you learn the pattern.

I've personally experienced hundreds of miracles and agree that it is amazing that more people don't trust God to lead them to deliver and to receive miracles. Wilkinson is an excellent writer, weaving personal experiences with scripture and makes a good case while keeping the reader's attention.

I read this book on the plane to and from New Mexico. It made me pay more attention to the people around me. Normally I would have shied away from conversation with a stranger in the Las Cruces barnes and Noble, but because I was reading this book at the time I knew it was a divine encounter.

This book is great. It helps you have a greater perspective of how to add meaning to your everyday life. It helps you learn how to be a tool in God's hands and make connections you would never dream about before.

Not the best-written book you'll ever read, but it did have some decent food for thought, for me especially in the chapter on life dreams. If nothing else, it stretches one's thinking about what miracles are and what kind of experiences we should be making ourselves available for. It also carries an ongoing theme of opening one's eyes to life's adventure.

Loved this book! Get past the "keys and steps" and take the heart of what he is saying and apply it to your life. God is amazing and wants to help you bless others by your life.

Read at work. Was a good distraction and made notes even. Now to find the time to put the points to action. Maybe someday I will have more time for me.

Makes me look a little closer at the people who invade my life. Looking for those divine appointments. This book is NOT about having healings and signs and wonders in your own life, but about partnering with God to provide miracles to others in need. The terminolgy of nudges and bumps etc will not stay in my head, but the premise of listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit and acting on His lead will. My life is a little different from Wilkinson's and not every single day will provide such oppo

This is a life-changing book. I would have given it a FIVE if Wilkinson had kep the format and size he used with Prayer of Jabez and Secrets of the Vine - he was repetitive in this one - but it's a keeper. Will be using this as I continue to teach spiritual gifts and purusing your dreams and purpose.

I didn't finish this book, but with the stories in it, I feel it is one you can pick up whenever you want. I do like to read about everyday miracles in life. It gets our eyes off of ourselves and onto Jesus!
