Fools Rush In
Millie Barnes is this close to finally achieving her perfect life…
Rewarding job as a local doctor on Cape Cod? Check. Cute cottage of her very own? Check. Adorable puppy suitable for walks past attractive locals? Check! All she needs is for golden boy and former crush Joe Carpenter to notice her, and Millie will be set.
But perfection isn't as easy as it looks–especially...more
Millie Barnes has had a crush on Joe Carpentar since middle school. She knows everything about Joe and I mean everything. Millie is a world class stalker. Unfortunately, Joe is one of the cool kids and he never really notices plain ole', overweight Millie.

" Millie," he whispered a little hoarsely, " I want you to know that this is not some passing thing. I look at you and see the rest of my life."
WHAT. A. LINE.
Yet another successful and emotional book by KH! Seeing as this was her first book, it definitely didn't read like a debut. It was just as emotional and affecting as her later work, and I loved it. There's something to be said about all her stories. Romance, humour, lots of family dynamics and at least in my case, much room for tea ...more
OK, maybe the cottage is not exactly on the ocean ....
Here she is, ladies and gentlemen. Dr. Millie Barnes, winner of the Boston Marathon! I looked at my watch again. Twenty-eight minutes. 1.7 miles. That was awesome....more
Millie has her heart set on a life she has built up in her head to be perfect and that perfect life revolves around her crush since high school, Joe. Who among us hasn’t created a perfect version of someone in their mind, one with bits of reality and a LOT of fantasy?
I really enjoyed this story. Millie gets exactly what she has always wanted and soon realizes that ...more
If this is Kristan Higgins at her worst, bring on the rest! I REALLY liked it! Okay, YES, Millie is a crazy stalker. I didn't realize you could get a medical degree from CGNU, but apparently you can! (GOSH, I love that video! That tak ...more

This is the third book I’ve read by this author and I think I’ve finally found the key to really enjoy them: it’s all about the heroine. If you can relate to her, then you are probably going to like the book because this author doesn’t write romance, she writes woman’s fiction. This means that even though you do get a hero -or a romantic interest I should say- he is basically a secondary character and could never be called a protagonist.

I'd always remembered this book as my least favorite of Kristan Higgins' novels. Convinced that the problem must be with my sieve-like memory rather than with the book itself, I tried rereading it a couple of months ago, and was pleased by how adorable and engaging and...OH. I soon recalled all too vividly why I could barely bring myself to finish this one the first time around. I try very hard to avoid using spoilers in my reviews, but ...more

But...there was a bit of a squick factor in the h/h relationship that I couldn't get past. Taken as an isolated couple, they were adorable and made sense. Within the confines of the family dynamic, not so much. I couldn't get past the fact that the hero recovered from an 18 YEAR marriage in one year and hooked up with his SIL. 18 years is a long ...more
This is the story of Millie Barnes, a new doctor who moves back to her hometown to live and work. Her plan is to snag the guy of her dreams - Joe Carpenter. She's crushed on him since 9th grade. In a stalker way. I will admit I was warned, the first words in the book are: "I'm a stalker. The good kind." (Is there a good kind of stalker? Really?)

(view spoiler)[I really did enjoy this book, but I can't help that I was a little uncomfortable with the fact that she ended up with her sister's ex. Why is this a favorite storyline for Higgins? There was a similar storyline used in the last book I read by her. I was able to enjoy the stor ...more
Except for this one.
Why? Well, Millie bothered me. From the very start, I really didn't like her that much. Maybe it's because she reminded me a bit too much of myself, going after the guy who you know, you know is only going to hurt you in the end; or maybe it's just because she was so flat. All of the characters were flat for me. It was like Kristan ...more
I only read this book for a team challenge, otherwise I would have given up.
The main problem with this book is Millie, the main character. I really just wanted to smack the stupid out of her. She was a doctor so there had to be some smarts in there somewhere, but she had this whole plan to catch the guy she's had a crush on for 15 years. This in itself is enough to want to slap her. the first part of the book is where she ...more
