Ok, first of all--a word of warning. The Katie MacCalister story in this book is a reprint. Never having read anything by the other authors that I'm aware of, I can't tell if they are also reprints.
Having gotten THAT out of the way. . .
I still enjoyed the Katie MacCalister story. But to properly enjoy it, you do need to have at least a basic familiarity with her Dark Ones series. Many of the same types of characters also show up in her 2 Dragon series also.

Did no one else want ACTUAL zombie valentines? Like, some protagonist decides that they love a zombie, but the zombie just sits there and drools, and he/she shows the zombie to friend and says, "This is my Valentine!"
And the friend says, "That's a zombie. Is it even capable of sentient thought?"
And the zombie says, "Brains!"
And the protagonists says, "YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND OUR LOVE! COME ON ZOMBIE!" and then they run away in a flood of tears.

Zombies are not what I usually consider Romance characters, but they work here. Most of the Zombies are not the typical flesh-eating types, and it is fun to see how the various authors handle a icon not normally thought of as "good" guys. And there are humourous parts in each story.
Katie MacAlister's Bring Out Your Dead is related to her Dark Ones series and the Zombies are secondary characters, trying to be vegetarians. Did enjoy the one who wanted to eat flesh. Poor Guy.

Ok, first of all---- The Katie Macalister story in this book is a reprint. I bought the hardback edition from the science fiction book club thinking it was a new short story by Katie. As I'm a major fan girl of the author it turned out alright as now I have a hardback edition of the story. Anyway, never having read any of the other authors, I can't tell if they are also reprints.

After reading My Life As a White Trash Zombie, I knew that “zombies” and “love” could actually coexist in a good novel. Unfortunately, the first three stories in this collection were a big disappointment to me, but the last story, Every Part of You, was what the first three tried, and failed, to be—a light-hearted, fun, sexy romp.

I LOVE contests...you enter...you hope you'll win, and when you do, you do the happy dance all over the place :) Angie Fox was cleaning off her bookshelves and offered this jewel up for grabs. I WON!!! I don't know why I had not added this gem to my library, but it's there now and I was not disappointed. We all have been watching Zombie flicks for, well, FOREVER! Here are four stories about zombies in a different context. What if they don't eat brrraaaiiinnnss? What if all they want is a chance...more
When i first picked this book up i thought it was going to be really boring and hard to get through because all the characters were in their 20's (and the last book i had similar to this one was so boring i couldnt even get through it.) so i definitely went into this book with doubts about it. I pushed myself to at least read the first two chapters of each one. I'M SO GLAD I DID!!! Two chapters was all it needed to grip you and get really interesting. without a doubt this has become one of my fa...more

I had to grab a book at the grocery store because it is very slow at work on the holiday. I was pleased to find a Katie Macalister story I hadn't read.
Katie's story revolves around characters we have already met in previous Dark Ones novels. I can't remember which books had Sebastion, Ysabelle, and Noelle. Sebastion is Adrian's twin. The story is a mini-story in the same vein as the Dark One novels. There's a little twist in the end that fits the book's theme. A madcap romp where the heroine in...more

My Zombie Valentine is a must read for those who seek humor in there love life. The Katie MacAlister story didn’t disappoint, William and his eating problem was pure comic genius.
Angie Fox delivered a cute tale of a voodoo, love and falling rats. Marianne Mancusi cooked up a fun tale of Zombie island, with an important take away: brains taste like chicken. Bring Out Your Dead by Katie MacAlister- #5 in the Dark Ones series (re-issued from Just One Sip). 1 star. I have tried a two different Katie MacAlister books, and haven't been able to get through either. Her writing style just isn't for me. I'm glad other people enjoy her books, I just have a hard time with them... to me they don't come off as funny.
Gentlemen Prefer Voodoo by Angie Fox- 2 stars. Tried too hard to be funny, and just below average characters/plot.

Okay, first of all, let me say that I've wanted to read this book for sometime. It has a great short story from the Dark Ones - if you follow Katie MacAlister's series. In fact, each of the short stories was really well-done. I like the premise they all used in regards to the zombies, but it may not be for everyone. I can honestly say that even after having read about Vegetarian Vampires, it hadn't occured to me to think of other paranormal creatures with the same issues.

I skipped over the first two stories after the first chapters. The magical is just not for me. I gave up on the last story when it delved into the silly - if you're gonna do zombies, do zombies and don't cute it up, especially after making the reader wait for the actual zombies.
The third story by Marianne Mancusi was a treat, though, with quite a few laugh out loud moments. The image of a hero fighting zombies with his tiny little dog strapped to his body was fantastic and puts Mancusi's name o...more

I thought that I would like these stories, especially the one by Katie MacAlister since I have read many of her books and liked them, but I can't help but feel disappointed. The stories just didn't interest me that much. That is, the only one that I like from the book is, Gentlemen Prefer Voodoo by Angie Fox. Her idea for the story and the characters themselves seemed very original and liked it a great deal. The other two stories I could barely get through and I really have no comments for them....more

The first story: Bring Out Your Dead by Katie MacAlister offshoots her Dark Souls series. I have never read that series but it sparked my interest in to check them out. Pretty good. The zombies are funny.
The second story: Gentlemen Prefer Voodoo by Angie Fox deals with an unlucky at love voodoo queen and the zombie who is determined to share "love magic" with her till the end of time.
The romance is sweet and the characters endearing. The little dragon? pet is adorable and quite wise. :P

I picked up this book at the local Wal-Mart because it was $1.99, and I seen Kate MacCalister's name as one of the contributing authors. I have been planning to read her Dark Ones series for a while now, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I always preface a review of an anthology by saying that I don't like anthologies. The stories are too short, have too much stuff crammed into them and little to zero character development. That said, this one was no different. I bought this book for the Katie MacAlister story and I didn't like it at all. This is a zombie anthology and most of the zombie elements in this story were extraneous to the story. I found most of the story to be irritating especially Sally with her bastardized Franglais...more

This book is composed of four novellas from well known paranormal and steampunk writers with the common theme being love and zombies. For the most part, there's no falling in love with actual zombies - well, the traditional kind with limbs and such falling off. In fact, the closest these stories get to traditional zombie horror films is the third story by Marianne Mancusi, "Zombiewood Confidential" where they are actually on a film set and those zombie extras with all the makeup? Well they might...more
My Zombie Valentine is an anthology consisting of four paranormal romance novellas by four different authors. Each story has some kind of zombie element to it, although it may or may not be the main theme of the story. The book's title may lead some readers to believe it's actually framed around Valentine's Day, but there was only one reference in the whole book to the holiday that I can recall.

i didn't realize this wasn't just one book, but 4 short stories.... first story was different. had a lot more than zombies in it....also had demons, and spirits, and vampires....but it was interesting. second story, also interesting, didn't need the weird dragon character but kind of a cool take on the whole zombie thing.third story didn't have a love story with a zombie, but zombies mixed in a love story, still liked it the best so far though. the last one was a bit strange, especially the way...more
MacAlister writes about her Dark Ones world, while Fox writes about a voodoo zombie lover. Mancusi uses a Hollywood movie set for a zombie takeover, and Cach uses our culture's infatuation with plastic surgery as the gateway to zombies.
These were decent shorts, some had me laughing others had me smiling.

Ok here we go...
This book had four stories in it.
All with a very different take on zombies.
#1 Bring out your dead ~ Katie Macalister:
Strange to say the least. I didnt love it.
I didnt hate it. The zombie was one of the
main charters and she didnt eat peeps she
helped other zombies adjust to their being. 2 stars
#2 Gentlemen prefer voodoo ~ Angie Fox

Amazingly this wasn't a Kindle book but an actual paperback. Shut the front door, right? LOL Only the 2nd book this year I read in print.

As the editor of HUNGRY FOR YOUR LOVE, I just had to read this. I was afraid it would be too much romance and not enough zombies, but it charmed and entertained me. Loved all 4 of the novellas, although the third one on a zombie movie set was so wonderfully tongue in cheek that I have to say it was my favorite. Each onedifferent and compelling.
This was basically dumb. 4 poorly written short stories for lonely women who like romance books. It had zombie in the title, so I was expecting it to be more action packed. But each story was about a curvy "real" woman with bad confidence who couldn't believe that this superhunk had fallen for them in just one day. Very blah. Only finished out of obligation, I hate to quit things. But, it was stooooopid.
This gets such a low rating, not because of the quality of writing, but because it out and out lies! The 4 stories in the book are not at all like the blurb teaser on the back. Which I found highly disappointing. The stories were rather boring and dull and it took me a very long time to read because of it.

One of the best anthos I've read in awhile!
All the stories were gripping & beautifully different, with just enough to string them together within the antho's commonality.
The creative genius in these shorts was delightful.
Dorchester put together a wonderful package with this one.

For as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book. Despite her love for novels, she didn't think of writing them until she was contracted to write a non-fiction book about software. Since her editor refused to allow her to include either witty dialo...more
