Since I actually thought the first book, Skinwalker was pretty good, Blood Cross has been sitting on my TBR pile for a long time for no reason other than I buy way more books than I can possibly read and I am always chasing the next new release, so somehow this made it to the lower strata of the pile without getting read. But someone clued me into the free download of a short story prequel to the series (Kits) which pulled me back into the world of Cherokee, rogue vamp hunting, shape shifting, H...more

I'm definately enjoying this series but I found myself torn with this installment. I was caught thinking often that we were getting a 'better view' of something (i.e., plot, character development, romantic progress, Jane's history), then conversely feeling that we could have used just one more tidbit. I'm glad that the majority of smaller issues in the previous book found resolution here. I was not pleased with the choice in romantic partners though, but realized that said choice was most likely...more

I seem to always enjoy the second book in a series more than the first. You get past the introductions and straight to the meat.

The action was awesome, and I liked that we learned more about Jane's background and got to hear more from Beast. Also the originality of Jane/Beast co-existence is refreshing in a market that is glutted with urban fantasy. The world in the book is well-detailed, and there's even a romance plot. The secondary characters of Molly and her children also get a larger role...more

The first book in this series surprised me into enjoying it and checking out the rest of the books. Unfortunately, this book is a disappointing follow up to the first book.

Jane Yellowrock is still in Louisiana, even after completing her job for the Vampire Council. It seems she has been hired on to do some more work for them: a rogue is making new vampires and must be stopped.

For a long while the story just seemed to be going nowhere, so I went back and checked the synopsis, and it was...more

Somebody in New Orleans is creating rogue vampires and Jane Yellowrock has been employed to hunt them down. But with employers who look at her and see their next meal, she needs to tread carefully.

This series is completely astounding! It's reminiscent of Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series and Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series, but Faith Hunter somehow manages to do everything just a little better.

Breath-taking, blistering fast reading. This second book of the "Jane Yellowrock" series hits the ground running and just does not let up. It is hard to believe this is only the second book in the series. The first was great, this is truly sublime. Faith Hunter takes the reader deep into her alternate reality of the world of Jane Yellowrock, shapeshifter and demon/vamp hunter. In this volume she deepens our familiarity with her, with her alternate self, the Beast, and with the exigencies and vic...more

Jane is something a little different. As far as she knows she's the only skinwalker alive; someone who can change into any animal she has a piece of. But she also shares her body with the soul of a mountain cat and wasn't too happy to discover how that happened. No one but her best friend's family knows her shifting secret and she has no one to get answers from. Thankfully, a Cherokee Shaman Jane stumbled across is able to lead Jane to find her own answers.

In this second book, Jane's best friend...more

I really wanted to like this series. There were so many good reviews of it and I hoped it would be on par with the Mercy series by Patricia Briggs. Alas, that was not the case for me.

So, Jane is a shape shifter that kills vamps (have stakes, will travel; ha, ha). She goes to New Orleans on a job for book 1 and stays for book 2).

I'm sure I have spoilers here..

I'm not sure what all was off for me, but I will list a few of them. Faith Hunter was very repetitive on some things - like the change (us...more

I strongly recommend you read the previous novel (Skinwalker) before reading this book.

I really enjoyed this installment but there were a few things that bothered me. Jane was a lot softer and more vulnerable in this installment, she didn't wield as much shifter strength, and sporadically she was completely incompetent, careless and fallible. A little more than occasionally she appeared almost completely opposite of her character in the previous book. I loved the tough kick-but vampire-rogue ass...more

Blood Cross is the second book in the Jane Yellowrock series. When we last left Jane, though she had saved the day, Leo, the master of the New Orleans was not pleased, believing that she had killed his son, rather than killing the killer of his son. In Blood Cross, Jane must hunt a dangerous rogue who is creating vampires and killing witches.

But things are far from that simple - with witch magic and vampire powers coming together to try and overcome the ancient curse of the vampires - the fight...more

The second book is a continuation of the first book, as Jane's contract has been extended to cover another task. Therefore, you will probably want to read the first book Skinwalker before you pick up Blood Cross.

Faith Hunter is back with Jane Yellowrock, skinwalker, who is on the trail of the vampire who is creating young rouge vampires who have been terrorizing the street of New Orleans.

Jane Yellowrock is a skinwalker. Only those who are closest to her know of this power, though the Vampires of...more

Beast shares Jane's skin. She is a constant voice in the life of Jane and traditionally, takes the form of different sized cats. Whenever Jane shifts, Beast takes control. I love Beast's constant voice in Jane's ear and vice versa.

Jane is descended from a Cherokee tribe of skinwalkers and can turn into anything. But since Beast is feline, she usually changes into a cat, with Beast always hoping to be Big Cat. In her childhood something tragic either destroyed Jane's tribe or irrevoca...more

Blood Cross takes place only days after Book 1 of the series, Skinwalker, concludes. Jane has been asked by the New Orleans Vampire Council to take on another case for them... this time a vampire who is turning young vamps (rogues) out into the night unchecked, a BIG no no in the vampire community. Often once a vampire is turned, they must stay with their master (imprisoned) for 10 years give or take to begin to control their blood lust around others.

Although Jane agrees to this job, this is a...more

Second book in the Jane Yellowrock urban fantasy series. This one happens immediately after the first book ends, still in New Orleans. Jane's friend Molly and her two kids Angelina and Evan are visiting for a few weeks while there is construction on their house. Jane has a contract to find a rougue vampire-maker, and to do it she gets cozy with the woo-woo section of the police department and a bad of former military vampire killers, as well as Leo's security chief. Jane and her mountain lion be...more

In the second book of the Jane Yellowrock series, we start off scant days after the concluding events in the first installment, Skinwalker, and follow along with Jane as she takes up the reins of her second contract for the New Orleans Vampire Council, to hunt the vampire making and leaving new-rogue vamps all over the place. This hunt risks more than even Jane and Beast may be able to survive when vampire politics, witchcraft, and the shrouded mystery of the Mithran origins all start to coalesc...more

This is the second book in the Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter and it was just as awesome as the first book. It is a fast-paced book with wonderful action scenes and wonderful characters. I would definitely recommend reading the first book first, if you liked the first book you should like this one.

This book picks up where the last left off. Jane is still in New Orleans and is still on contract to hunt down the maker of the rogue vampires. She is joined by the witch Molly and her children...more

Jane is hunting the rogue maker. The master vamp who is creating vampires and turning them loose before they can control their madness. Usually they are kept locked up for ten years before they are able to be introduced back into society. While tracking the rogue maker Jane uncovers a lot more than she bargained for concerning the vampires and their politics. Leo is still out to avenge his son, sick with grief and blaming Jane for his loss. When Molly and her two children come to visit they soon...more

I LURVE urban fantasy, but I'm noting that most of what I read tops out at 2 stars. Why? Well, first of all, most of what is billed as urban fantasy is really paranormal romance. I love the mysticism & magic of fantasy juxtaposed with the chaos and cynicism of modern life. What I don't care for (I'm looking at you Paranormal Romance) is a "hard as nails" heroine banging every dude that sniffs her supernatural pheromones.

Enter Jane Yellowrock, hard as nails vampire hunter and skin walker. She...more

once again, faith hunter comes up with an actio-heavy, snappy story and interesting people to run around in it. our cherokee skinwalker heroine is still in new orleans, tying up all the loose ends from the first novel - don't jump into this one without having read the first one. if vampire politics, a bit more of jane's origins & native american heritage, secret ancient vampire myths, and tuff cop friends make you happy, give this one a go. a lot of the sketched ideas from the previ...more

This book was cracktastic, combining elements of urban fantasy and paranormal romance; the best of both worlds. The main character is a rogue vamp slayer named Jane Yellowrock, a Cherokee skinwalker who has the ability to shift into animals at will. However, her main form is a big cat named Beast who makes up a large part of her personality. Her current objective is to stop a vampire from churning out bloodthirsty rogues. But she quickly finds out that these rogue vampires are a little different...more

Jane Yellowrock is a part-Cherokee Rogue Vampire Hunter in New Orleans with a contract from the Blood Master of the City to hunt down a rogue vampire turning vampires without sticking around to take care of them.

In this second in a series, Jane's now holed up in an ex-bordello with her witch friend Mary Jane and MJ's kids, sure that magic and her own fighting skills (not to mention the spirit of a mountain lion she carries) will be able to protect them all.

As vampire history and factions within...more

I really enjoyed reading this 2nd book in the Jane Yellowrock series.
The character of Jane continues to evolve as a human and a shifter.
There was more romance in this book than in the last although the focus of the romance changed somewhat from 3 men to 2. Leo Pellisier was undergoing a major depression and for a Master Vampire, that was not a great thing to suffer thru. George Dumas was again the suiter that
"Beast" was most interested in but the one that Jane was interested in was Rick, the pr...more

Thanks a heap for the bleary eyes and foggy brain, Jane Yellowrock. I finished this book at around 2:30 this morning-had to see what was going to happen!

Jane is every bit as bad-ass as she was in the first book. We find out a bit more about her mysterious past. The Cherokee ritual stuff is interesting. There's much more to discover about her and world in which she lives.

Still don't know exactly what Jane is. Other than awesome, of course.
While I could do without the description of the change EVE...more

Another very good book in the Jane Yellowrock series by Faith Hunter! “Blood Cross” has everything that an urban fantasy book must have: adventure, great world-building and very good characters.

The story continues from where the first one stops and Jane has to deal with a very difficult situation because somebody takes her best friend’s children that she loves very much. So, she has to deal with crazy vampires, black magic and with some very sexy men that want her. Oh, I almost forgot a handsome...more

Good series...not perfect; but so far, I'm really enjoying it. It's one of the darker, grittier, and more complicated UF series I keep up with. I'm getting more invested in the characters and the locale; and with Jane's line of work. I'm enjoying the Beast parts more and more; and I love that she is a skinwalker.

In this entry of the series, Jane is still getting her footing in the vamp politics of New Orleans. They are one of the few supernaturals 'out' to the world of this series, but it looks...more

2.5, but I'm rounding up to give it a chance and because of little Angie who's just too cute for less.

Well, this one is all on me. I knew what I was getting into and did so anyway. I'm sorry Ms. Hunter, I'm not the best reader for your novels and so, I'll go easy with my criticism.

Basically, I had all the same problems that I had with the first time. Jane's logic and her inability to make even the simplest leap of intuition keep baffling me and her (bad) attitude and bragging annoying me.

In the...more

The heroine, Jane, is lucky to be alive. If it wasn't for Beast, her alter ego, she'd be dead. As a matter of fact, Beast is the best thing about the series, so far. That's the only reason I gave it a 4. Beast knows what to do and when. Beast has no sympathy for the bad guys and is the best as far as self preservation. Not so much for Jane. The author did a great job of describing the world through Beast's eyes.

I was really disappointed and unfulfilled when it came to the sex in the series. Ther...more

It's About...
Book 2 in the Jane Yellowrock series.

What I loved...
I love Jane. What can I say? She's wicked. I find her bad-ass-ness believable is the thing. She's not just a cartoon bad-ass. She's confident and cocky but she has her insecurities and vulnerabilities. It's nice to read about a female character who knows who she is, what she believes in and what she will and will not tolerate.

(WARNING: Spoiler on the romance angle)
Ok so in book 1 there were a few guys in the running and quickly in...more

The second book in the Jane Yellowrock series does not disappoint. Although, I loathe awkward bring-the-reader-up-to-speed first chapters, where the characters say things like : "as you know, I am the one who killed the creature that was pretending to be so-and-so and then that made you-know-who all kinds of angry at me so that now I have a price on my head while I also attempt to discover who is creating other rogue vampires without anyone finding out my secret." And the other person says: "yes...more
