I ended this book positively seething. I was so mad. Not about the writing or the characters, but about the hateful council and they way they can ruin your life. The way they can control certain people, and the impossible situations others are put in because of it, fills me up with futile anger because I can't change it. I get so angry when it's a small group against a whole society. It's almost impossible to win when everyone is against you, actively or otherwise.

The book moved me,...more

Quick & Dirty: In a world of politics and tradition, can love survive the test?

Opening Sentence: “If you don’t get off your ass, someone’s going to snake that woman right out from under you.”

The Review:

I don’t know about you but a book cover can seal the deal as to whether a book will be added to my ever growing pile of “to be read” books or never even picked up off the book shelf. This is a book that screamed “Read Me”. The overall impression was one of...more

Bleak at Times, But Stronger than Crux

Two years ago, Derek Gabriel was attacked and stripped of his humanity. Nicky Peyton was born that way. Derek comes from a family of psychics who, besides his cousin, are all dead. Nick is the daughter of the Alpha wolf of the country and leader of his people. Derek's considered a mutt among the elitist snobs in Nicky's culture - and Nick's considered a princess more valuable for her womb than her personality. There love is primal, instinctual...more

I highly enjoyed this book, it's exactly the paramormal romance I like.

In Crossroads we get to watch Nick and Derek fight for their HEA and we get to know more about politics and just about how far those shifters can go their manipulative and calculating power games.

It all starts when Michel (Nick's twin sister) arrives in New Orleans with Aaron (her bodyguard and forbidden lover) and announces that she is pregnant and Aaron is accused of treason! Nick is willing to risk and sacrifice everything...more

I'm just wondering how wrong it is that I read this book in one three hour sitting? I really enjoy the easy way the writing reads. Fluid and well paced, the book draws you happily towards the end, to the detriment of other things in your life like getting out of bed or breakfast. Silly little things like work and life just get swept to the side!

This book focus' on characters we met in Crux. Only this time it's Derek and Nicole, aka Nick, in the hot seat. Both in a tug of war with the want and th...more

I feel like I should knock on wood or something. I have had a string of really great books and keep waiting for one to let me down! Crossroads continued my lucky trend of great books and exceeded my expectations. I am hereby declaring Moira Rogers my favorite discovery of 2009.

Nicole Peyton is a werewolf. She also happens to be heir to the very rich and powerful Alpha of the United States pack of werewolves. We first meet Nicole in book 1 of the series, Crux. What makes Nicole so endearing is th...more

Crossroads is the second book in the Southern Arcana series, and I have to say - my favorite so far. Crossroads focuses on Nicole Peyton and Derek Gabriel who we met in Crux. Nick is basically a shapeshifter princess who was born into the ruling family of the werewolves (her father is the Alpha) while Derek was changed two years earlier in a vicious attack. Nick ran from her life in New York City to New Orleans and ended up taking over the bar, Mahalia's, from her friend. Nick established a life...more

Crossroads is the second book in the Southern Arcana series by Moira Rogers. It can be read stand alone but I recommend reading Crux first simply because this is turning out to be a superb series. To miss any part of it would be a shame.

Nicole Peyton is a shape-shifter and eldest daughter of the Alpha wolf. She was born a shifter and is the reluctant heir to her father’s position in the Conclave, the governing body for the shape-shifting society. Instead Nicole prefers her simple life as a bar o...more

2.5 stars. It was definitely not as strong as Crux.

This seemed forced.

I think I don't have a lot of patience anymore for characters who refuse to go after what they want because they feel like they're unworthy of it. I think this doesn't happen a lot in life, so therefore shouldn't happen in fiction. It just seems ridiculous that a good-looking, well-educated owner of a company wouldn't ask a woman out on a date or that a beautiful heiress wouldn't get tired of him not asking and ask him out her...more

Crossroads is the second in the Southern Arcana series. It could be read as a stand-alone but you have a much better understanding of the back-story between Nicole (Nick) and Derek. Derek has longed for Nick for several years now but has never taken the chance to act on it. Once they kiss the passion explodes between them. Now with the society hunting down her twin sister Nick is risking it all to help save her and Derek refuses to let her do it alone.

Crossroads is book 2 in Moira Rogers Southern Arcana series, and I loved this book. Crossroads is a paranormal romance story centered around werewolves and people with magical abilities. As far as shifter/werewolf book series go, the Southern Arcana series is amazing. In book 2 the main heroine is Nick, the alpha’s daughter, a strong female werewolf trying to escape her birthright as the heir to the North America werewolf pack. Derek is a recently turned werewolf trying to control his inner wolf...more

This is the second book in the Southern Arcana series. Crossroads centers around Nicole Peyton, a werewolf, who were introduced to in Crux. Nick and Derek have had the hots for each other for a while but Derek, a newly turned wolf, has kept his distance. They finally give in to their mutual passion and then their world is turned upside down.

I enjoyed reading this book although I liked Crux better (Jackson is my man!). Crossroads started off with a bang with Nick's twin sister, Michelle, escaping...more

Synopsis from Goodreads:
"He’s the last man she should ever want. She’s the last woman he can ever have.
Coming from a family with psychic gifts, Derek Gabriel was aware of but separate from the dangers of the supernatural world, until a rogue wolf shifter stripped away his humanity. I have to start with my favorite quote - “That was making love, dirty style.” Is there any other way?

Derek and Nicole, or “Nick” Peyton have been attracted to each other for a long time but life always seems to get in the way. Two years ago, Derek was attacked by a rogue werewolf and now he is also a shifter. Dealing with his extreme heightened senses, snarls that haphazardly escape and his overwhelming instinctual need to protect those that matter to him has taken some adjustment. He is afraid...more

I really should write reviews at once, now I waited three days and that is not good. But I hope I can do the book justice anyway.

In this book we get more of the politics and honestly those shifter bosses are such asses. But then men in power (and women) tend to be that. I liked Nicole, the heroine because she wanted out of that stuffy old world who only wanted her to choose a mate from one of their own sons. But she does have a weakness and that is love, her sister and just doing what she feels...more

I got this book a while back after I threatened to kill the author's granny I wanted it so much. The Bree half of Moira Rogers loves her granny very much so she capitulated and sent me a copy. I had read the first in this series Crux, and loved it, so I was very excited.

I actually had to wait a few weeks to write anything about this book as after reading it all that would come out when I put fingers to keyboard was this.

In Crossroads we finally get the chance to see Nick and Derek becoming closer.
In Crux the tension between these too build up and I was so curious about them both.

Nicole is the daughter of the alpha but she tries to stay out of all the political stuff that goes on in the supernatural world. She likes her life the way it is. Being a bar owner suits her and Nicole likes to decide for herself what to do and who to love. She is independent but also caring for the ones she loves. Nick finally has enou...more

Crossroads is the follow-up to Crux, and is the 2nd book in Moira Roger's Southern Arcana series. I thoroughly enjoyed Crux (my review here), and and have been looking forward to this book.

Nicole Peyton (Nick) is a bar owner in New Orleans. She's also a werewolf - not just any shapeshifter but the daughter of the New York Alpha. She's made her home in New Orleans to escape the politics of werewolf society in New York. Derek Gabriel was a regular guy with supernatural relatives until he was turne...more

I was warned before-hand that the HEA took a little bit longer to happen than in the first book and I think that really helped me. Otherwise, I would have probably spent more time worrying about how things would work out.

This book showcased Derek and Nick (Nicole) that we met in the first book. Derek is trying to decide if he should go after Nick, and Nick is trying to figure out why Derek is staying so far away from her. While the two try to navigate their sort-of relationship, Nick finds herse...more

Having read the first in this series, I had high expectations, and this book delivered! This may be my favorite book in the series. Again, I like that the book doesn't feel like just another paranormal romance. I would have liked more of a build-up in the relationship between Nick and Derek, instead of just referring to a long dance around one another. And this book didn't seem as fast paced as the first book, but it was an engaging story with a strong female character who handles her business b...more

I read Crux, the first book in the Southern Arcana Series earlier last year. I'm not exactly sure what took me so long to get back to this series, but I'm so glad I decided to return. Crossroads was that good.

Since it had been awhile, I had forgotten some of the plot in the first book. It didn't matter though because Moira Rogers did a great job of throwing in just enough detail to get any reader back up to speed in no time. Nick, Derek and the rest of the supporting characters were all introduc...more

Really enjoyed - Rogers does a good job of making the emotional conflict and challenges seem real. As opposed to fabricated plot devices to keep the couples apart or inner conflict emotional angst issues that make your head hurt from the constant eye-rolling, I believed in the characters doubts and concerns. The story itself was a lot of fun with good world building. I read the first book in this series and enjoyed the same things (world, story, characters), but the writing also seemed tighter a...more

I may have liked this one just a teeny bit less than Crux, but it was still an absorbing read. I think I just really like Jackson's Southern boy charm.

I love that Nicky and Derek made smart decisions in no-win situations, and that they kept their heads on shoulders even while falling head-over-heels in love. I am also really enjoying how future stories are beings set up without creating endless cliff hangers. I also still think I'd enjoy getting a drink at Nicky's bar.

I am trying hard to pace...more

Synopsis
Derek Gabriel and Nicole Peyton have been lusting after each other for a while but at the moment they finally decide to give in to their attraction, their world comes apart when Michelle's sister arrives on their doorstep on the run from the Wolf Conclave. Things go from bad to worse as wolf politics and traditions threaten to destroy Derek and Nick's new found love.

Note: It is necessary to read book #1 in the series first in order to understand some of the backstory....more

Derek and Nicole (Nick) have both had feelings for each other for a long time now but the time has never been right for them to act on it. Derek was turned into a werewolf after a vicious attack a couple of years ago and since then has been trying to deal with his new supernatural abilities. It hasn't been easy for him to come to terms with his inner wolf and he has always been afraid of losing control and hurting Nick. Nick's father is an Alpha and also the head of the Conclave which is basical...more

I read 'Crux' the first book in this series back in January and really enjoyed it, but 'Crossroads' was even better! Although this book focuses on two new main characters - Nick and Derek, the storyline continues on from 'Crux' with all of the same characters, so I would recommend that you read it first.

Nick is the equivalent of werewolf royalty, daughter to the ruling alpha she is expected to marry for political gain and produce heirs. It is a fate she has spen...more

Oh, guys. I absolutely love this series. Love it. And every time I jump back into I'm reminded again of why it's captured me so completely. It's the perfect blend of sex, magic and mayhem. Sometimes the magic is found in the form of shapeshifters and sometimes it's found in sexy Southern gentlemen who find themselves knee deep in shapeshifter affairs, but either way it's fantastic.

Derek and Nick are... Oh, god. They made me cry. CRY! When things start falling apart and Nick is being drawn in too...more

The second book in the Southern Arcana series, Crossroads is much better than the first. Don't get me wrong, I moderately enjoyed the first book; however, Crossroads was faster paced, loaded with more action and the archaic political world of the shifters was extremely interesting.
Nicole Peyton is the owner of a bar in New Orleans, pureblood werewolf, and heiress to the throne of the were council. However, all she wants is a simple life minus the complicatons and archaic rules of her kind. For...more

Moira has done it again. I loved this book. Crossroads was such a fast paced read, which fit perfect for this next installment. I think if Moira took her time with this story I would be banging my head against the wall because there is such intensity in this story that if I had to wait too long for all the events to unfold I would go nuts....lol. Nicole (Nick) Peyton and Derek Gabriel are such a perfect couple. Nicole's father is know as the Alpha/leader of their kind which sort of makes Nicole...more
