This is my second Amelia Peabody mystery and I am ready to go back to the used bookstore and find all the rest of them! The author, Elizabeth Peters, has a PhD in Egyptology from the University of Chicago, making the backdrop for the novels convincing and full of fascinating detail. Amelia, of course, is an archeologist married to a dashing archeologist named Radcliffe Emerson. Together with their family and their extended Egyptian family they live and work in Luxor, excavating ancient tombs in

Another Peabody adventure. The whole family is finally all together in Egypt including grandchildren. It makes for a lot of people to keep track of and to give something to do in the story-line. This adventure starts with Ramses being kidnapped briefly and then the conservator and jewels go missing as Cyrus Vandergelt is packing up his great find from the last novel. Many other little things happen and the family including Sethos all pitch in to see if they can solve the mystery. Some parts

The Amelia Peabody series still hasn't grown stale for me. The characters are so delghtful, their adventures are so exhilarating, and so many wonderful new characters are added, that it is still fresh and more fun than the three-ring circus that their lives often resemble.
In this installment, Amelia and co. are on the trail of thieves who've stolen a few very valuable pieces of Ancient Egyptian jewelery from their good friend, Cyrus Vandergelt, as they try to work out a pattern to More...

This is the fifteenth (in order of publication) Amelia Peabody mystery, and is set in 1919, two years after the events of The Golden One. Nephret was pregnant at the end of The Golden One and it is revealed that she and Ramses had twins--a boy and a girl. The Great War is finally over and the other Emersons, Walter and Evelyn and David and Lia and their two children, are coming to Egypt to join in the archaological work. Cyrus's tomb, discovered in The Golden One, has been cleared and it is b

The Great War has ended at last. No longer must archaeologist Amelia Peobody and her husband, Emerson, the distinguished Egyptologist, fear for the life of the daring son, Ramses, now free from his dangerous wartime obligations to British Intelligence. The advent of a season of joy and peace marks a time of new beginnings in Luxor, with delightful additions to the growing Emerson family and fascinating wonders waiting to be discovered beneath the shifting Egyptian sands.

Audio book- poorly edited2003 Harper Collins Publishers-fluctuating volumes on the cd's. Though I must say, I do love hearing Barbara Rosenblatt read! I especially love hearing her interpretaion of Emerson,"Curse it!". These are Egyptologist mystery/thriller type books set in the early 1900's. I started with the last in the Amelia Peabody series, & am somewhat compelled to consume these audio books- a guilty pleasure!

Two-plus years later, and the Emersons' past comes back to haunt everyone. Ramses is pursued by a physical incarnation of the goddess, Hathor. Sethos flies back into their lives as does his and Bertha's daughter, Molly. But is Molly the young serpent with poisoned fangs or is it another?
Not to fear, with Walter, Evelyn, David, Lia and their children arriving in Egypt, the bad guys are sure to lose.

Another great read from Elizabeth Peters. Amelia Peabody Emerson is one of my most favorite characters in literature (I want to be her when I grow up). She doesn't disappoint in Children of the Storm. One of the major bonuses of this series is learning about the Egyptian culture and Egyptology. I find it especially interesting being set in the early 1900's. It is sad to think of all the unrest that has happened in Egypt since then.

This was a difficult book to listen to with all of the characters in the story. There is also a switch from first person to third person when "Manuscript H" was read. I think if I had read the book it would have rated 4 stars. This being the 15th book in the series I really have no idea about who these people are who keep popping in. The story was good and interesting if not a bit convoluted.

I felt like I was being pulled a million directions with all the old characters and the new ones. Thus my interest and affection for the characters was minimized somewhat. Not that Peters has lost her sense of humor, or her cleverness. It's still there. But it would help to simplify things a bit. Maybe separate the family and have 2 mysteries going on rather than try and remember every little detail. The "additions" to the family circle are endearing and the character growth is believa

I really enjoyed this volume of the Emersons' adventures. Finally, the war is over! And there are babies, and the whole family is back together in Egypt again. It's still kind of strange to think of Amelia and Emerson as being old enough to be grandparents - in my head, they are still in their 30s, full of youth and vitality. And I hope that view of them never changes, because deep down, that is who they are, regardless of the passing of time.

I loved it! This was a little more complicated plot than some of the others. So, it wrapped up too quickly for me--the family really had a lot of predicaments going on, and they all resolved just a little too easily at the end of the book (maybe that is why we get the "lost manuscripts" piece in every introduction!). It is great to see how the family is expanding--even though most of the time it is by unconventional means.

It was fun to listen to this audiobook during a NYC trip. The Egyptian collection at the Met is tremendous and I felt like I understood a bit more about how the collection was amassed.
Although this is "historical fiction", the themes of family and work conflict (and the two career couple) are timeless.

As you know, I love all things Egypt. I had listened to an E Peters book and enjoyed it...this one definitely feeds my need to engage with Egyptology...I especially like how Peter defines the characters by their relationships.
Finished now...if I was a Victorian lady, I'd want to be Amelia Peabody. Complex plot...not an obvious conclusion...very satisfying.

Now with Ramses as a married adult with chidlren, he's actually written as a believable and somewhat likable character. He's also delightfully quiet! The series is back to pace of the first book except that it's at least twice as long.

Elizabeth Peters does a great job of keeping Amelia Peabody and her family from getting stale. She manages to find strange people and suspense for the family while letting them age.

Another Peabody series. The Egyptologist and her dashing husband, Emerson, and their son Ramses solves another murder. Always entertaining if not a little bit predictable.

A nice visit with old friends. I love this series. Amelia Peabody is such a great character. This time around the cavalcade of characters and their subplots was a bit overwhelming. But still a bit of fun for my roundtrip flight to Vegas.

This was given to me by Jack, Rich's friend. I read it but don't think I'll do more of this series. It takes place in Egypt which was interesting, but her style is too slow.

Once again, I dip into a series at a stage where nothing really makes sense if you don't have the backstory. I think I might like the beginning of this series, but I think I need to read something else for a while before tackling it.

I have liked this series of books all along. Elizabeth Peters is a great writer, even though these books are all mysteries involving the same set of people, they don't get old or predictable. There is always something new and this volume is no exception. This book did have a really long set up before the plot really got rolling. I find this series is the best after the dead body shows up and the dead body in this one didn't turn up until after halfway. Still once it got going it was a great

As always with this series, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The mystery was mysterious and kept me guessing till the end. Sethos' daughter turns up again. Is she a villain or has she changed her ways?

Favorite quote: Sethos let out a faint groan. "I had better get--er--good old Badger back to the house," I said, giving him a hard look.

It's 1918 and the Great War is over, so it's time for an Emerson family reunion. All three generations, including Walter & Evelyn's family, are in Egypt for the season. The toddlers toddle, and the rest manage to get a little archeology work done in between the usual kidnappings and thefts and murders.

The thing that I love about all off Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody Mysteries is that each book contains thoughful writing, wonderful characters, real egyptology, real egypt history, super mysteries and the author has a witty voice. Now I must admit that I dont usually recommend these books to men because the main character is a head strong british woman - I have found that her voice doesnt really appeal to men but if one is tired of the dry egyptology book pick up Elizabeth Peters and you will
