Home in Time for Christmas
by
Heather Graham (Goodreads Author)
Centuries ago, by a scaffold in Manhattan, rose petals drifted gently to the ground......like snow on a wintry Massachusetts night. Melody Tarleton is driving home for Christmas when a man--clad in Revolutionary War-era costume--appears out of nowhere, right in the path of her car. Shaken, she takes in the injured stranger, listening with concern to Jake Mallory's fantasti...more

I was disappointed with this book. The premise sounded good, and I love time travel romances, so I thought this was a good bet. I am all for suspending reality a little, don't get me wrong, but one crucially important fact about the time period was SO OFF, I felt embarrassed for the author. For clarification, the US Constitution was written in 1787. The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776, followed by the Articles of Confederation (and the final draft of those came a few years later-...more

When I first started reading this author's books many years ago, I truly liked the light, airy stories which did not take a lot of thought.
Unfortunately, the books now contain so many mistakes in grammar, vocabulary, in sentence structure that all I feel like doing is giving up on this author's books. I know that many readers do not give a hoot about the problems I mentioned, but for readers like me, who speak and write at least two or three languages with enough accuracy to be able to teach the...more

Tis the season to believe in miracles and love and Heather Graham Pozzessere delivers both with this delightful present in Home In Time For Christmas.
Graham is a prolific best-selling author of several genres from romance and paranormal to romantic suspense so it was a pleasure to find Home In Time For Christmas that combines her historical romance roots in a contemporary with a paranormal (time travel) element.

Melody Tarleton is driving to her parents in Gloucester, Massachusetts on a snowy night on roads with black ice when her car spins and hits a man in the road. She gets out to help and finds him dressed in Revolutionary War costume.

I don't know if I am going through some sort of reading slump, but it seems lately I've been able to finds things to pick apart in the recent books I've read. This being no exception in that while the story sounded really interesting, the author didn't do it justice.
First, while she initially tried to have the 18th century gentleman speak proper English as he probably would have, it seemed like she gave up half way through the book. Then, throughout it all, the modern day heroine kept saying to...more

This was a light, Christmassy read - with great characters and an ending that leaves you feeling all warm and toasty inside. Exactly what a Christmas story should do.
All the characters were fun, witty and had their own distinct personalities that quickly wormed their way into your heart. Although Melody and Jake were the main characters, there were some supporting characters that were so fun. For one, Melody's parents and her brother were so funny. I probably can't very well sum up what I found wrong with this book, haha. The premise is cute and romantic, but the execution is, well, awkward, to say the least. The book was published in 2009, and yet the people talk as though they are in a holiday Lifetime movie from 1998 or something. It's awkward and unrealistic and it just doesn't flow well. Further, the storyline has promised, but that promise goes unfulfilled. It seems like a bunch of quickly-sketched plot points flimsily pieced togethe...more

While I didn’t dislike Home In Time for Christmas, it wasn’t without its faults. A very cute Christmas read, if you can step outside of reality for a second – and forget a thing or two you learned in middle school history class.
Home In Time for Christmas centers around Jake and Melody, two people from very different times. Jake, a colonist from the 18th century, abruptly finds himself in 21st century Massachusetts, rather than the end o...more

More like 2.5. I had high hopes for this, but the ridiculous heroine and the repetitive events just made it seem like it would never end. Oddly enough, the fantastic premise wasn't a problem for me - I'm willing to give a book the benefit of the doubt, or I wouldn't have read it. But there was no chemistry between the hero and heroine, and that was impossible for me to ignore.
However, the heroine's constant "I'm too sane for this family" crap did get tiring - and then it started to get irritatin...more

This was a wonderful book! Melody Tarleton is on her way home for Christmas. On an icy road in Massachusetts, she hits Jake Mallory with her car who appears out of nowhere. Jake tells Melody that he is a Revolutionary War soldier who, last he remembered, was about to be hanged in New York City; but instead he is now in 21st century Massachusetts. With Jake having nowhere to go, Melody concocts a story and takes Jake home to spend Christmas with her and her family.

This book wasn't exactly like I expected. I thought it would be a quick, steamy, and romantic read, but I was wrong on the steamy part. There were no love scenes or even very much kissing. I've read young adult romances that were steamier than this. The plot of this book wasn't very believable but I guess the concept behind Christmas isn't very believable to some people. I found myself siding with Melody that people can't travel through time and that is just a ridiculous notion. But then I got t...more
This was a wonderful holiday romance with a hint of magic to it.
Melody is driving home for the holidays when she accidentally hits a man in th road wearing colonial dress. When he comes to and he tells her his name is Jake Mallory and he was in the process of being executed by British soldiers during the Revolutionary War, she fears he may have had a loss of memory. She brings him home to her family's Christmas celebration, where he bit by bit proves his story to her family. In the process of t...more

This book was only ok. The last 50 pages or so bumped it up from a 2 to a 2.5. I didn't really care for the style of writing and the main couple was only alright. She just kept repeating herself for the first half of the book - "Oh my he's crazy... oh dear he must be crazy.... oh bother he probably has a concussion but well I won't take him to the doctor." (I might be paraphrasing a bit lol)
Jake was kinda interesting, but the boy needed at least a lil freak out. I mean popping 200 years into the...more

This book was a great disappointment. I thought the premiss sounded interesting, and it seemed to start off alright but quickly became predictable and sappy. I found the inferences to christianity and paganism disturbing. The author seemed to be trying to convince the reader, or least it seemed the underlining message of the book, that all beliefs are created equal and can live very happily intertwined...magic and the belief in God are all good and can be worshiped together. I also question whet...more
It started out promising, then just turned into a comedy of errors and huge disappointment. I didn't expect more than an easy read, but the end was beyond ridiculous. I don't know if Ms. Graham just needed to hit a certain page number or what, but any credibility the novel had went out the window. The author clearly is not a time travel fan, or she would have taken more care. She just lets her characters blab about all kinds of modern inventions, and one believes he can help change history.

Heather Graham presents a story where a Revolutionary Patriot (Jake) is about to be hanged, when his sister performs some magic and he is transported into the 21st century. There he lands in the middle of a road and is almost hit by Melody, the heroine of our story.
The following story is entertaining, but a touch longer than it needed to be. I enjoyed the characters and I liked how Graham wrote them, for the most part. I found myself not at all sympathetic to Melody, and found her to be quite a...more

Fun holiday romance with a historical/time travelling twist.
This is a pretty typical, light and cheerful girly novel. It's about falling in love unexpectedly. It's about accepting the person you love, and it's about "doing anything for love". Thematically it isn't very deep. But the family the novel focuses around is sweet and loving and the kind of family most of us want to be from, at least in the ways they relate to one another. The ending is happy, and the setting is suitably traditionally C...more

Typical of most Christmas stories, this book was corny and kind of cheesy. Unfortunately, there was no graphic sex scenes, which is one of my favorite things about this author's writing. So, that disappointed me.
The story was about time-travel. The hero, Jake Mallory, came to present times from 1776. We got to see what our society and technology would be like through his eyes. His reaction to cars, for example was one of wonderment and curiosity. Being a history buff, I found his story fascinat...more

Thanks, Rhonda, for the book recommendation! It was just what I needed to kick off my Christmas break.
While I will say the book was predictable and there were a few curse words sprinkled throughout, that gets all of the negative out of the way. I enjoyed the story and the characters. They were all kind of quirky but definitely in a good way. I still didn’t like Mark at the end, but that’s okay. The rest of them made up for it.

Kayaknya ini buku pertama Heather Graham yang aku baca. Pertamanya baca versi Inggrisnya di tahun 2011, tapi cuma sekitar seperempat buku, then I stopped.

This was the second book that I read for my read-a-thon last weekend in the Goodreads group You'll love this one...!! A book club & more. This was the very first book I've read by the author and I figured I may as well give this book a try since I think I've owned it for somethink like 3 years.

I liked this book much more than I expected to, and more than other Heather Graham books that I've read. I could not put it down. I read it in practically one sitting. It's about a young woman who hits a man driving home for Christmas as she skids on the ice. The man is dressed in Revolutionary War attire and believes he is actually from that time. He claims that her house is his house. she starts to fall for him, but is he crazy or could he really have traveled in time? Not overly corny.
This was a fun book to read especially at Christmas time. It starts out by Jake Mallory, revolutionary war soldier getting ready to be hung by the British in New York and as he falls through the scaffold's trap, he falls and falls and lands on a country road in Massachusetts when he is struck by Melody Tarleton driving home for Christmas in the 21st century...How to get Jake home back to his sister...Very enjoyable. Lots of twist and turns. Great read especially for the holidays!
For a while it was ok, never really gripping. I figured out the ending too early on, and was just flipping through to get to it. I didn't like the magic/withcraft/science explanations, if it's not believable why spend a lot of time working on it? Two of the characters had to be semi-witches, and one had to be a mad scientist. I think this detracted from their characters more than helped. The romantic leads needed better motives for their actions.
I love Heather Graham, but I really miss her books like the medieval trilogy and her westerns. this book was okay. It is like someone turned a holiday Hallmark channel movie into a novel. Super syrupy, over the top emotions, and corny dialogue, but a cute quick holiday read. I would not have paid full price for this story and been happy, but it was a buy 1/get 1 novel so it is fine. Not her best work and definitely not a keeper for me.
There were some slow parts scattered throughout this novel where I found myself itching to flip ahead to find out what happens. But overall, I really enjoyed the story. It's a really sweet love story filled with magic, and little tidbits of United States history. I was initially skeptical of whether I would enjoy the book or not because I don't typically like magic and fantasy but I'm really glad I read it anyway because I was so wrong!
