I thought this was a decent book, but lacked many important components that picture books should have. The story is about a grandfather who is telling his grandson about his experiences in a rural schoolhouse. The grandfather excelled in all of the subjects he learned until one day a girl who became his wife became the smartest in the class. A grandpa reminisces with his grandchild about how awesome it was to be taught in a one room school house and the logistics of doing so. A tad slow, but interesting walk down history-lane.

Illustrations are okay.

A great book that describes how the classroom has changed over hundred of years. I think this book make help children be greatful for the school that they have becuase in the 1940s that did not have such great accomodations.
