I love Mo Willems. I really, really do.

And you know what? I love Elephant and Piggie. These books work on so many levels. First and foremost, they work well in their job, which is "easy reader". They ARE easy to read... but not too easy. And while the illustrations do illustrate the plot (and very funnily, I might add), they don't give away the plot. Children have to actually read the words to know what the book says instead of guessing from the context of the pictures. An More...

We just discovered the Elephant & Piggie series at the library and have checked out every one they have. They are a bit easy for my 7-year-old to read on his own, but he loves that they are easy enough that he can sit and read them to his younger brother without any adult help. The 5-yr-old thinks they are hilarious and has memorized several books. The two youngest act out the story lines during their play time.

My older boys (both 11) will read these on their own. Even I think they More...

Gerald & Piggie are best friends. In I Am Going! Piggie ruins a perfectly good day by telling Gerald he is going. But if Piggie goes, who will
Gerald play ping-pong and wear silly hats with? (Goodreads Summary)

I Am Going! (Elephant and Piggie) by Mo Willems features a classic Gerald melt down, as his paranoia & melodrama are hilariously illustrated by Mo Willems. The book features large fonts, plain backgrounds, word bubbles, and word repetition. While perfect for beginning rea More...

I am a big fan of Mo Willems' artwork, particularly in this series. The amount of range his two animal "actors" have despite their super-simple design never ceases to amaze me. This is the first one I read to actual children before, and the six-year-old (who could actually read it herself if she wanted to), was quite into it, and particularly enjoyed the instances of Gerald screaming in large fonts. The four-year-old, was bored, despite the whole story only lasting about five minutes.( More...

This was hilarious - I loved the interaction between the two characters and how one was level-headed and the other was just completely over-dramatic and paranoid. This series always makes me laugh and I enjoy looking for the sneaky little pigeon that Mo puts in all his books. I'd totally recommend this book.

Piggie is going and Elephant does NOT want him to! But, Piggie is going any way. “Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?” asks Elephant. Elephant begs Piggie to stay because who will he play ping-pong with in his silly hat if Piggie leaves? Does Piggie leave Elephant on his own? Grab Mo Willem’s latest installment in the Elephant and Piggie early reader series, I Am Going! To find out!

We just love Mo Willems' stories and the Elephant and Piggie books are particular favorites. Such emotion, such drama, such silliness...in just a few words. It's an easy book to read and really helps teach children the nuances of different ways of saying the same thing, with different feelings involved. And the illustrations are always hilarious.

Gerald and Piggie are at it again in another book in Willems' popular series. Gerald panics when Piggie announces he wants to leave and goes through a series of worries and questions until he realizes that Piggie just wants to go have lunch. Another cute book that utilizes repetition and beggining words making it perfect for an early reader.

Elephant and Piggie are at it again! In another giggle-inducing easy reader, Piggie casually says that she is going and Gerald, the most co-dependent Elephant in the world, has a nervous breakdown. Children will find it LOL-worthy, storytellers will have a blast reading it out loud.

Not the best in the E&P series, but still enjoyable.

This wasn't the very best of the Elephant & Piggie series, but still enjoyable. I found Gerald's fearful expressions about losing his friend to be spot on. The book is just a bit longer than necessary and the final resolution is done well, but is not terribly clever. Definitely one of the best beginning reader series out there.

Caused several belly laughs. Gerald, the elephant, is the more needy and worried of the two friends. Piggy is rather matter-of-fact and sensible. When Piggie announces "I am going," Gerald launches into a full worry, trying to get piggie to stay. At one point, the whole page is Gerald asking, "Why, why, why, why, why..." Logan laughed and said, "Even *I'm* not that whiney!" This series is always a winner.

When Piggie announces she is going, Gerald falls to pieces. What will he ever do without his best friend?!

When Gerald throws himself at Piggie's feet begging her not to go, kids just crack up. This classic case of misunderstanding makes for some serious kid humor.

This book reminds me a bit of Willems' "Leonardo." And since I love that book, that is not a bad thing. Very fun to see Gerald try to stop Piggie. Great illustrations and humor within. My favorite part is Piggie popping out of Gerald's arms.

Definitely one of the better Elephant and Piggie books. I love how absolutely simple (and repetitive) the dialog is but the richness and complexity (and humour) that the illustrations bring is amazing. Good fun all around.

I love the Elephant and Piggie series. Mo Willems is the master of early reading books. They are so popular at my library, they are almost never on the shelves. This is just another wonderful addition to the series!

I Am Going! is no I Will Surprise My Friend (one of my favorite picture books ever), but Elephant and Piggie are always a delight. Seriously, I should be too old to love these books so much.

Once again Mo Williams succeeds at giving an emotive edge to Elephant(Gerald) and Piggie. This book hits that perfect tone of misunderstanding that small children have, but provides a sweet ending.

These books are so fun. A relative recommended them, and the kids love them. This was the longest book Grey has sat through so far. I think the dancing one is his favorite.

I love to read Elephant and Piggie books. Usually I am Piggie and the teacher is the Elephant and we act out the scenes. The children love to read these books.

Mo Willems understands kids so well! The plots are always so universal. Not sure if adults or kids are more amused by them! Love the expressions on this one.

Thank you, Mo.
