5+ stars – Contemporary Romance/Romantic Suspense
This is my first read by author Julie James, and I absolutely loved it! I devoured this in a single sitting. Something About You has everything I enjoy in a contemporary romance/romantic suspense read.
*Hot, brooding, gruff, protective alpha hero who’s former Army Special Forces, a Special Agent with the FBI, and drives a Triumph motorcycle? – Check and YOWZA!
*Strong, intelligent, yet genuine heroine? – Check!
*Witty, often laugh-out-loud, dialogue? More...

This was picked for our Smut Monday Club reading and even though I read it before, I wanted to read it with everyone again. I forgot how much I really liked this! Actually after reading this for the second time, I realized I loved it!
This is a simple, drama and frustration free, romance! There is no angst or love triangle to pull you hair out over! There is just snarky, witty, banter between the main characters, Cameron and Jack, and a fast, fun, and super-sexy plot.

When I added this book to my GR bookshelves, I put it in the "romantic suspense" shelf because what else should I think considering that the hero is an FBI agent and the heroine is an assistant U.S. attorney, right? Well, now that I finished reading it, I had to move it from the "romantic suspense" shelf to the straight "contemporary romance" shelf, because the suspense is almost nonexistent - the reader is aware of who the bad guy is and what his next moves are all the time. Something about you – After reading Julie James first book – Just the Sexiest Man Alive – I immediately fell in love with her style of writing and dove head first into her next book on my list – Something about you. Meet Jack Pallas: http://irresistiblereads.blogspot.com...
Favourite Quote: "Where is Wilkins, anyway?" Cameron asked.
"In the living room, being accosted by eighteen women who think he's a stripper. I thought it was best to duck in here."
"So much for never leaving a man behind."
"If he starts screaming, I'll lay down a cover fire and go pull him out."
The first word that comes to mind after reading Something About You is DELICIOUS!

So this book caught my attention the other day when I read this quote: >>>> “More like a chocolate molten lava cake. A dessert so sinful, so luscious, so filled with inner heat it made a girl want to lick each and every crumb right off the plate. That was Jack Pallas.” and I realized that I really needed to meet that man! Soooo, this became my random rainy Saturday read and I was not dissappointed!
Here's how I see Jack to start us off:

Oh-god-oh-god-oh-god! I love this book!
As soon as the motorcycle (aka bad boy bike) came into play, my heart was a goner! I was a goner! My heart melted into a big ‘ole puddle of swoon and my head filled with all sorts of fun fantasies! :D

Three years ago she tanked his investigation, he insulted her on TV, and she had him transferred to Nebraska (or so he thought). Now, she’s an audile witness to a murder and he’s lead investigator. And they still hate each other’s guts (or so they try to convince themselves).
Julie James isn’t one of my favorite authors for nothing, and I’m feeling pretty bad about doubting her while reading the first part of this book. Because it was rather slow and uneventful. Having finished it, I know better More...

Something About You begins the Julie James' FBI/US Attorney series. Assistant District Attorney Cameron Lynde is forced to stay at a hotel one night while her floors are being refinished. She ends up next door to what sounds like a sex marathon and getting very little sleep. After she calls the frontdesk to complain, it is discovered that a murder took place and she is apparently the only witness. (She peeked out the door's peekhole and saw the man leaving.) Special Agent Jack Pallas is assigned More...

I loved this book! Enemies-to-Lovers with a fuck-load of sexual tension! Cameron and Jack finally got to the hot lovin' near the end, butI was they were teased and tortured for a very long time. No insta love between these two.
I was also really into the plot, it didn't have much of a mystery and the killer was revealed way earlier than I expected. But there was still some suspense and a lot of laugh-out-loud moments.
The ending was perfect! Very, very sweet HEA!!

This is my second Julie James novel and let me tell you I am beyond shocked that I haven't heard more about this talented lady!!! So i'm taking on the temporary PR role and pimping this out to everyone I know. READ IT!!!!
I haven't read a lot of books like this lately. A lot of my romance reads concentrate on the sex to show emotion, where as Julie James doesn't rely on that. The entire book is a slow tease and I LOVED IT!!! The characters have back bone, sassy wit and I love them all, even the s More...

2ND READING REVIEW/NOV 2012
I enjoyed this as much as I did the first time and more than any MM romance in a long time. In fact, I can't even say I loved any MM romance I read the whole of this year, not even the ones I gave 5 stars (because they were being compared with the rest of the MM rubbish I was reading). I was about to give up romance fiction for awhile but decided to try an MF comfort author and JJ did not fail me:). The story moved along at a steady pace and 'Agent Hottie', Jack Pallas More...

I loved it. The interaction between Jack and Cameron makes this an awesome cover to cover read. It's funny, sweet, suspenseful, intense, and steamy. I loved Jack and Cameron. The cover is gorgeous and relevant. Reading this felt like hanging out with a new person who felt like a close friend from the moment you meet her/him. I guess I pretty much loved everything about Something About You. It's also set in Chicago, which I always love to see.

Julie James is easily one of the most well-known authors of chick-flick/contemporary novels, so when I went into Something About You, I was expecting a ton of laughs, a good romance, and had just a tiny seed of doubt in my mind, wondering whether the novel would live up to all the hype. Well, it did. Goodness, did Something About You deliver!

I flew through this book. I read it in one day. For me, that is quite the feat. The story was fun, the characters enigmatic…I just loved it. And after reading this I just have to say that Julie James did it again.
Something About You is a little different from Julie’s other books. This one included a bit of a suspense/mystery. You find out who the bad guy is pretty early on, but it doesn’t stop you from sitting at the edge of your seat because you’re not sure how everything will play out exactly. More...

How the heck have I not indulge in her books before? This is just my second Julie James helping and let me tell you, she's got me addicted! So much so, that I downloaded her A Lot Like Love right away.
The appeal of her work comes from the fact that it's got substance. Now, I've never been a crime-stories-loving kind of girl but her books has just enough of it that it didn't distract me from the whole point of the story. This book was such fun! And after reading THE PIPERS SON, I still felt like I was a bit on edge, so this was exactly what I needed.
Hmmmmm. Let's just put it this way, shall we.
I grinned so much that my jaw started to hurt after a while. IT WAS SO GOOOOD.
I'll be honest here and say that I didn't really care much for the plot.
I mean, am I supposed to? I don't know. But the romance is definitely key here, and I just loved loved the sexual tension. I prefer it a whole lot more when there's a More...

I'm a big fan of Julie James and she didn't disappoint me with this book. I could not put it down. I'm rather speechless and should probably write this review at another time.
One thing that fascinates me about Julie's book is that although her heroes are not "my type" they are incredible hot, and although I don't want to be friends with the heroine I feel strongly for them. Julie James dedicated “Something About You” to “the jokers in the room next to me at the JW Marriot San Francisco--As you kept me awake with your antics, this is the book I wrote in my head.” I feel like I owe these individuals a debt of gratitude because this book was better than I ever expected it to be. In fact, IMHO Julie James hit one right out of the park, with ‘Cameron Lynde’ and ‘Jack Pallas’s’ story I had trouble putting “Something About You” down. Unlike Ms. James’s previous novels “Ju More...

This was a cute read. Julie James will certainly be an auto read for me going forward. However, I did not enjoy it as much as Just The Sexiest Man Alive. I just loved that book.
It was great that she added a little steam to this book. The H and h are very likable characters. The supporting cast of friends round out the fun for sure!
All in all, I would recommend this to a friend for a light, fun contemporary read. And while there is a crime to be solved, this is not a suspense. We find out who the More...

I had a great time reading this one, I just thought I would enjoy it more than what I really did. It was a really great read, I just think it was too focus on the plot and not so much on the romance. Still I definitely will be reading more from this author soon.

This book is a shining example of a sub-genre that I had all but lost faith in, the contemporary thriller/romance. James manages to bring spice and intrigue to the story without devolving into unbelievable situations or heinously deranged killers. Furthermore, she doesn’t stint on her characters’ development as the plot unfolds. Cameron and Jack are both strong, capable individuals, and James skillfully brings them together without sacrificing Cameron’s competence (i.e. – no hints of the “Too Du More...

The romance doesn’t really start until 50% through the book and even then it still takes a backseat to the murder plot until 75% into it.
The murderer's POV takes up all of chapter 8 and reveals not only who it is, but also the motivation for the killing. The murderer is given a couple more POV scenes in the middle of the book. So there isn't really a mystery.

You'll remember back in January I found myself surprised and delighted with Julie James' first two novels. I dubbed them "bibliocrack" because as far as cold Januaries and book slumps go, they were good for what ailed me and I eagerly anticipated Ms. James' third novel--SOMETHING ABOUT YOU. Fortunately, I didn't have long to wait. In fact, the longest part about it was sitting in my chair at work knowing the book had arrived that afternoon and was waiting at home for me.
