Very rarely do I stray from romance--I always love a happy ever after ending. But I am so glad I strayed with Mr. Phillips', Along Came A Fifer. From the cast of characters, to the plot and taking me sight-seeing through London, a place I've never beeen, there was never a dull moment. I enjoyed getting to know the members of ELAC, their collegues and the villians. The plot, with its twists and turns, always kept me guessing and eagerly turning the page. I look forward to Mr. Phillips' next ...more

Whether you're a fan of mysteries, an art lover, or have a penchant for all things English, "Along Came a Fifer" is sure to please. This art forgery tale is the first in what is sure to be the popular East London Adventurers series. This page turner has all the elements of a good read: engaging characters, classic setting, and intriguing plotlines. The cover art, designed by the author who is also a classically trained artist, is worth the price alone.

Phillips does an excellent job with his debut novel. The characters are engaging, the plot is fresh and creative, and the descriptions are very vivid. Each twist in the story serves only to add dimension to the book. Well done! Hope to see more by this talented writer.
