The Hunt
by
Anne Marsh (Goodreads Author)
No matter how they try to flee, the virgins who enter the twisting tunnels of the Guardians are destined to be caught. Actually, most don’t try too hard. The stories of warriors who can take on Cat form, of lovers who can make a woman scream with pleasure, are just too enticing.
But Miu is no virgin, and she’s joined the Hunt with her own agenda. After she steals the moonst...more

Paranormal Romance- Sept. 29th, 2009

The Hunt is a thrilling story that leads the reader in directions that are surprisingly unexpected and absorbing. The cast of characters are intriguing and the imaginative world and culture the author has created are captivating.

Okay, this book is what would happen if Sherrilyn Kenyon watched Stargate, and used some were-cats as her men as if they were Alexi Morgan's Paladins. But minus the world building. As a first book for author Anne Marsh, I guess it's okay, but there was absolutely, positively, zero world building. But hey, that's okay, because if you've seen Stargate, there you go!
Okay, it takes place in a fantasy world, but is heavy with Egyptian overtones. (I thought, is this Egypt? is this another planet? Is...more

My Review:
The Plot:
The Guardians: mythical Werecats that guard an ancient temple high above the Valley. In exchange for their protection from a dark evil, the inhabitants of the Valley send their virgin daughters to the Guardians to participate in the annual Hunt. There the females scamper like white mice through the temple's dark catacombs awaiting the pounce of a Cat and the opportunity to slake their primal lust. Some of the women will stay and become mates while others will surface with an a...more

After first reading a later work by Marsh, I was almost disappointed in this novel. Though the concept of The Hunt was a good one, I couldn't get over the writing style; it seemed a tad contrived. I honestly expected better and the plot just didn't do it for me. The saving grace for this novel was the characters.

I like the premise of the book. Virgins have to run the catacombs while the Guardians hunt them for a mate. The Guardians are cat shifters and of course are hot. There is a lot of explicit sex in The Hunt. I really like the heroine. She's fiesty and determined. This books could easily be the first in a series.
*Spoiler Alert*
Miu is fierce and cunning, but really lacks on her self-esteem. She has alot of potential, that just needs to be released.
Jafar is powerful, caring and passionate. He should have accepted that he was destined to be with Miu.
I'm alittle uncertain of how I feel about the ritual of the Hunt. It seems extremely barbaric and random. I do not care for Amun Ra whatsoever.
I was touched that Jafar was willing to give up everything to make Miu happy. He is a true mate in every way. I was gl...more

Cheesy, action-packed, and sexy. If you're not trying to follow it word-for-word, that is. Found a number of glitches through-out, but as long as you don't remember Jafar taking Miu's knives, and a couple scenes later, she's pulling one out, or her robes falling to the ground, followed shortly by them lifted to reveal her nether-regions... you've got a nice little action tale of stubborn Cat versus stubborn femi. And it's sexy outcomes.

After ten years of graduate school and too many degrees, Anne Marsh escaped to become a technical writer. When not planted firmly in front of the laptop translating Engineer into English, Anne enjoys gardening, running (even if it’s just to the 7-11 for slurpees), and reading books curled up with her kids. The best part of writing romance, however, is finally being able to answer the question: “So...more
