I thought this started off a bit slowly, but by part two the action had kicked in and it kept going for the rest of the book. I could really relate to Eleda because I too find secrets infuriating and often wanted to smack Adele, even though I did understand why her role as a safe-keeper was important and why Eleda still loved her (she had her moments). Nothing in this book came as a surprise: I guessed that Adele had put the herbs in Eleda's food the minute she got sick, suspected Alexander and...more

This is a fantasy, romance and teen book all rolled into one awesome package! Eleda and Adele are mirror twins. One parts her hair on the right, one parts her hair on the left. Both have one blue eye and one green eye, but one has the green eye on the right and one has the green eye on the left. Even their names are mirrors of each other. For all their similarities, they are nothing alike in personality. Eleda is a truth teller and cannot tell a lie. Adele is a safe keeper and will keep secrets ...more

This is a worthy sequel to The Safe-Keeper's Secret. As in that book, the main characters are a safe-keeper, who can keep any confidence, and a truth-teller, who cannot tell a lie. The twist is that the two are mirror-image twins. The plot is interesting, if somewhat predictable (I had guessed the surprise ending 100 pages before the end).
However, I've rarely read a book that posed so many intriguing ethical questions. Potential group discussion questions! Are there people that you f...more

I was a bit reluctant to start this, since I had loved The Safe-Keeper's Secret so much when I first read it that I just didn't believe there was really something that could follow that up in a satisfying way. While I didn't absolutely love this novel, it was a very enjoyable read and I had a lot of fun with the story and characters. The idea of two twins that are mirror opposites in appearance and personalities was interesting, and one thing I really enjoyed was how the longer I read the more I...more

I have several of these books waiting to be read, and I'm honestly not sorry that I do!
Sharon Shinn's writing is very readable and I've enjoyed everything written by her so far. This book is no exception. While it's not quite as good as her Twelve Houses series (which is written more for adults) this book carries definite appeal - I can see my 16 year old sister absolutely devouring it and the others similar to it.

The Truth-Tellers Tale was about two mirror twins named Eleda and Adele. Adele is a safe-keeper and eleda is a Truth-teller. Their friend Rolynn always is crushing on a boy unworthy to her father.
Before Summermoon, the dance master Gregory comes along with his apprentice Alexander. Rolynn falls for Alexander who is a different person than she thinks he is.
It wasnt as good as Safe-keepers secret
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes very romantic fairytales (UGH!!)

Sharon Shinn is a new author (for me, anyway) I'm finding myself consistently going back to - I read three of her books in one weekend - two YA and one Adult and liked them all equally well - she's a rather nice mix of Robert Jordan (fantasy) and a less than sap-filled romance author that creates a romance that's even more romantic for it's lack of gushy wushy smexyness. You know - the everyday kind that we lowly realists exist for.

So far, I’ve enjoyed all of Shinn’s novels, including The Truth-Teller’s Tale. She has a fairy tale-esque feel to her writing, complete with handsome strangers and happy endings. Somewhat predictable, but far from a generic fantasy read. She keeps the mood light, but still touches on some slightly grown-up themes, like sex and the nature of relationships, individual vs. societal expectations. A quick, enjoyable read.

I thought the first half of the book was boring. I felt like there wasn't much going on. I really like though when those two guys came in. This book was very slow paced. What kept me reading it was the fact about how people were going to marry. Wow- Sharon Shinn is really good with the romance. I can't wait to pick up the next book because I want to know about Eleda and Gregory. I really like how the girls are mirror twins. I also loved the dancing. Dancing makes me so excited. This second book in the series is a more complex examination of what it would be like to always be compelled to tell the truth or always keep everything confident. Eleda and Adele are mirror twins. The former is a truth-teller, her sister is her natural opposite a safe-keeper who lies with ease.
Eleda knows that truth-tellers are often despised for their unwelcome truths. She decides to learn the social skills that will allow her to know when to tell the sweet truth. In one case she i...more

Adele and Eleda are mirror twins in more than just looks. Adele is a Safe-Keeper, who cannot tell a secret someone has entrusted to her. Eleda is a Truth-Teller, who cannot keep a secret. Absolutely charming! I really like this series, even if I'm reading it backwards. I now need to visit the library for the first...

This book was a quick and whimsical read. I enjoyed the fictional world where a girl had to tell the truth at all times, no matter how hurtful. I really liked the author's style and the development of the story. I hope to pick up the other 2 books in this series on my next trip to the library.

Adele and Eleda, daughters of innkeepers Bob and Hannah, are mirror twins, not just in appearance, but in personalities. Adele is a Safe-Keeper, and will keep a secret forever, but she just might lie to you. Eleda is a Truth-Teller, who cannot tell a lie when asked a direct question, and can sense when others are lying. She will tell you exactly what she thinks.

I blazed through this in one evening, which I never do, and must mean I quite like it, yet I don't particularly *feel* like I like this series. They're well-written, charming in a very familial way, and keep me turning pages late into the night, but a few of the plot points prevent me from totally enjoying them. This time, I just couldn't quite get Roelynn and her father and found them largely annoying, as well as a two-page mention of the main character from the first novel whose story was neve...more

Adele and Eleda are mirror twins in every possible way, including their special abilities. Adele is a Secret-Keeper, while Eleda is a Truth Teller. Adele can keep secret her entire life, and Eleda is unable to speak a lie. The story that unfolds is very Shakespearean in its dealings with social class, love, and circumstance. I was compelled to keep reading and I could hardly put it down.

A pleasant tale about false identity, lies, and the truth. Not as good as some of Shinn's other works, it's not a bad read and the story flows well, it's just some of the characters that we're supposed to find likable are rather annoying and the male characters are rather flat. It might have a bigger message, but it goes about things in a shallow way. Good for light reading, but fails on the bigger picture of depth.

This is my favorite book I have read in awhile. It is a sweet, simple romantic fairy tale that has a happy ending. It is the story of identical twin sisters; one is a truth-teller (can't tell a lie) and the other is a safe-keeper (keeps people's darkest secrets). They are daughters of honorable innkeepers and live a hardworking life. Their best friend is the daughter of a rich merchant who is expected to marry the Prince, not for love, but for the business connections.

This is the second to The Safe-Keeper's Secret and it is an excellent book! Maybe even better than the first. It is about mirror twins and how one is a safe-keeper and one is a truth-teller and it tells part of their story.
