Really liked this book. I did not know very much about Schiller, he's probably a very German writer and philosopher. In the introductory course on Metaphysics we read a few of the Letters on the aesthetic education of men, otherwise I would not even have considered reading this biography. I'm lucky I did though. What was especially appealing is Schiller's these that men can not handle external freedom if they don't have internal freedom, i.e. are not educated and do not possess a sense of beauty More...

Rüdiger Safranski nimmt den Leser - zunächst etwas schwerfällig, doch dann immer flüssiger - mit auf die Lebensreise von Schiller. Er geht aber nicht pedantisch jede biographische Station dabei ab, sondern setzt - ganz im Still dieses Autors - den Schwerpunkt auf die Gedankenwelt von Schiller. So wird das Werk von Schiller lebendig und zeigt seine anhaltende Aktualität.
