I'm torn between giving this a 1 or a 5. Many little girls will adore this. Personally, I want to know what the people at Mattel were smoking when they thought "For our next Barbie story, let's adapt a macho-dominated, racy French novel about adultery, dueling and l'honneur!" It's wonderful to give girls active heroines instead of just passive princesses, but the amount of literary and historical butchery required to make a story to go with this title creates a book that is so atrociou More...

Ok, so we watched the movie as E's reward for being a trooper through TV Turnoff Week. We "read" the classic version first (with heavy editing from mom). I have such mixed feelings about the Barbie movies. The book made no sense at all. Bella enjoyed the pictures though.

While the Barbie easy readers are not my favorite stories, they are very simple. The only difficulty with the three musketeers story are the names. There are many difficult to pronounce names, but with a parents assistance, a beginning reader reading simple sentences would be able to read this book.

Barbie and her friends try to figure out a way to become a musketeer. They are hired to keep the castle clean and figure out that someone is out to harm the prince. They train to get ready for the day they need to rescue the prince. My daughter loves this story.
