Do you ever have those moments of disconnectedness where you wonder if you're marching out of step with the rest of the crowd? I had that feeling when I clicked on the Amazon link to Burn Me Deadly by Alex Bledsoe and saw that it had a 3 star rating. 3 stars? How is that possible? I know I certainly enjoyed the book more than that.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Once again, Alex Bledsoe has sucked me in and refused to let go. In all honesty, I didn't even WANT to read this book; I was going to get off the couch and look for another one. But this one was on the table next to me, so I thought "I'll just read the first chapter and then I'll get up and find a different book."
Suddenly I'm half way through the book, my eyes are tired and it's almost an hour past when I usually go to bed.
If that isn't a recommendation, I don't know what is More...

This is the second book detailing the adventures of Eddie LaCrosse. The first was The Sword-Edged Blonde which I enjoyed and I would say Bledsoe has topped that one here, I am looking forward to the third in the chronicles Dark Jenny but that is quite a ways away considering Burn Me Deadly was only released last week.
Eddies story told from his perspective is a blending of heroic fantasy and noir detective. I am a fan of both though not so well read in noir as Bledsoe, but I do love More...

Having thoroughly enjoyed The Sword-Edged Blonde, I looked forward to reading more of Eddie LaCrosse: this sequel does not disappoint.
Burn Me Deadly starts off with Eddie almost running over a damsel in distress, pledges to help her, only to end up thrown down a ravine with the now-dead damsel, narrowly getting crushed by his horse. He then tries to figure out what that was all about, and seek revenge on behalf of the girl, and his horse.

Bledsoe does a great balancing act with the genres - equal parts fantasy and hard boiled mystery, with a dash of ascerbic wit! Fun, page turning, believable world building -and I like how the books are in random order within Eddie's life, than on consecutive adventure after another. I also love that while Eddie gets into fights and banged up, he does NOT get his ass kicked by every single villain or potential villian. He himself is quite the decent ass-kicker. And punner...

Although I have a soft spot for Wisconsin authors, I am especially fond of ones that take genres where they were not originally meant to go. Alex does just that (again) with the second Eddie Lacrosse book. Although set in a fictional sword-wielding land (with strongly Wisconsin names), the style of the story and most of the characters personalities are drawn from detective noir.

I really like genre-play, and this is a good example. Burn Me Deadly is a hardboiled detective story set in a fantasy realm. It's done with a wink to the reader, but the concept isn't a crutch for bad writing. Quite the contrary -- the characters are well-written and the story is engaging. This is a sequel to The Sword-Edged Blonde.

Ah, the combination of Alex Bledsoe (the author), Eddie LaCrosse (the hero) and Stefan Rudnicki (the reader) — it doesn’t get much better than that!
Burn Me Deadly is the sequel to The Sword-Edged Blonde, which I adored, and since Mr. Bledsoe has been picked up by Tor, I’m guessing I’m not the only one who felt that way. This book takes place around a year, maybe more I can’t recall, after the first one, The sword-edged blonde and since then Eddie and Liz have become a couple. Apart from that nothing much has changed for Eddie. He is still a sword-jockey for hire, and returning one night from a job he almost runs over a blonde woman who is about to mess up his life.

I really enjoy these books but I'm a bit worried, so far it's been two books and no female has made it out of the damsel or victim role yet. The blurb mentions a femme fatale but there isn't really one at all. Maybe Dark Jenny will introduce a female who doesn't need to be rescued or get killed at some point but I'm starting to lose hope for that. Regardless of this flaw though it's still a good book.

c2009. A great read when you are in the mood for a rollicking story with no sub-plots, themes or mores. Eddie, the damaged hero, comes riding into town again and there be dragons! Definitely a guilty pleasure with not much character or world building going on - or if there is, then it's so subtle that i didn't pick up on it. Loved it...and can't wait to get me hands on the next one.

Another great installment of the Eddie Lacross series. You could definitely pick this book up without having read The Sword-Edged Blonde, though having read the first book adds some depth to the characters and humor to the narration.
I didn't find this quite as funny as the first book, though Eddie remains a fun narrator and the pace of this book moves you right along.

This sequel to the "Sword Edged Blonde" did not disappoint. I liked the first in the series but I REALLY liked the sequel. This story line was even better than the first. Bledsoe successfully mixes mystery noir and fantasy in a neat little package. Protagonist Eddie LaCrosse battles dragons, bad guys, religious zealots and a cagey princess in "Burn me Deadly." I can't wait for the next one.

This second Eddie LaCrosse novel was another fabulous mix of hard-boiled noir detective story and classic fantasy. The characters were all very well portrayed, and the plot was fast-paced and completely engaging. It was almost better than the first book, THE SWORD_EDGED BLONDE; I really enjoyed this one all the way almost to the end where there was one point that struck me as out-of-character for which I could find no explanation, but that point didn't really have much bearing on the overall sto

This story romped right along. A fun read, and for me a newer take on the fantasy novel. I thought it was funny that the characters had normal names, like Doug, Liz, and Eddie, instead of the usual semi-Norse/old German garble. I was a little disappointed with the dragons.

The book started out very different than most western settings and the medival sword toting horse riding detective had me in his grip. The rescue of a girl along the road which leads to her death and that of his horse with him barely surviving. As he starts to investigate why this happened it was pretty interesting right up to the point where he neglected and left his horse tied up for over a day. Being a horse lover this put me against the book, the hero, and the author. Not right possibly not

Love this author! He is on his way to becoming a favorite. To me, what makes the difference between a good book and a great book, is if I realize I am reading.
Believable characters, both main and support, set in realistic surroundings that have a completely out of the ordinary experience. Great read!

Alex Bledsoe is one of the most original writers I have ever had the pleasure to read. He mixes sword and sorcery fantasy with noir detective novels and pulls it off with grace and wit. A must read!

Fun read. I finished it in three days while on vacation. It's just pure enjoyment - I would not expect anything deep but I think within the genre it's great.

Another enjoyable entry in Alex Bledsoe's series about Eddie LaCrosse, a sword jockey for hire (think private investigator). Epic fantasy meets detective noir in this story about dragon worshipers, mobsters, a murdered woman, and more. Not quite as good as the first book in the series, The Sword-Edged Blonde, but still a very entertaining read, especially for those looking for something a little different in the fantasy field.

Very good read! Not deathless prose by any means, but a refreshing blend of sword & sorcery(without most of the sorcery) and hard-boiled detective.

Eddie is dashing, mysterious and just a bit lucky. Lots of fun and difficult to set aside...even for dinner.

A fun medieval noir detective story. Read A Sword-Edged Blond first since there be spoilers.

Listened to the audiobook from Audible. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book. Still an interesting mix of fantasy and hardboiled, but I'd only recommend it if you really like The Sword-edged Blonde.

Not quite as good as the other two books in this series, though still fun.
