Lescroart is best known for his Dismas Hardy legal thrillers; this was his first novel in 1981 recently reissued. Set in Spain as Franco is dying, 2 couples:one married and bored, the other passionate and combative. A young man's visit for dinner changes everything. I found it interesting and a good read
It was okay, but I prefer his usual cast of characters--Dismas, Franny, Abe, etc. It was somewhat interesting, with some twists and turns, but on the whole rather down and morose. The characters were well portrayed, but in a place that could have been a paradise, the people were mostly unhappy.
I thought this was going to be a murder mystery for some reason, but it wasn't . Well written though. Good characters that I enjoyed following. Quick, easy read.
Wow, worst effort ever by Lescrart. I read pretty much everything he writes and this missed the mark big time.
A dated book but still reminded me that I must travel to Spain.
Started slow, got better. Seems Lescroart was trying to be a new Hemmingway when he started out. I enjoyed it, although it was a little strange.
Basic novel. I enjoyed the Spainish setting, but other than that nothing really jumped out to make this a great read.
read as book
This is Lescroart's first book and it is a good thing that we didn't read it first or we would never have read any of the others. Very shallow with virtually no plot.
I'll try the paper version because I like Lescroart so much and I'd love to read one of his earlier books, but as an audiobook, it dragged.
First novel for Lescroart that was re-written and re-released. Written with lovely description of life in Spain at end of Franco reign.
I wanted to like it----but------
