Roar of a Snore
All the Huffles are fast asleep, except for Jack. He heard a noise that rocked the floor. He heard a noise that shook the door. Jack heard . . . a snore! Just who is making this racket? "Roar of a Snore" by Marsha D. Arnold is a humorous, rhyming tale of a young boy Jack who has trouble falling asleep one night because of "a thunderous, ear-splitting, ROAR of a SNORE." He set out searching to find the culprit, but it was not his dog Blue, Mama Gwyn, the Huffle twins, or even the animals in the barn. Who could it be? After all this searching they finally come upon the least expecting culprit of this "Roar of a Snore." The illustrations by Pierre Pratt do a great job in supportin...more
The Huffle family is fast asleep in their farm house with the stars shining bright in the night sky, except Jack. He tosses and turns because he can hear a noise that rocks the floor and shakes the door. He hears a clamorous, thundering, ear-splitting snore! Jack gets out of bed and wakes up each of his family members hoping to stop the snore. Soon his entire family, from Papa Ben to Sweet Baby Sue, the dog and the Huffles twins too, have joined Jack on his hunt for the source of the snore. They...more
I enjoyed reading this book, and I thought the story line was really neat how it went from character to charater trying to figure out who was making the roar of a snore. The illustrations were great, along with the awesome words that were used like, "mighty, clamorous, thundering, ear-splitting." I would reccommend this book for parents to read to their children who are about ages 4-6.

This book is about a little boy who is wide awake while the rest of his family is fast asleep. He is kept awake by a Roar of a Snore! He wakes up each family member one at a time to see if they are the one's making the noise. They finally find that the source of the snore is a tiny kitten and they all curl up next to him in the barn and fall asleep.

"The Roar of a Snore" by Marsha Diane Arnold was a good book, and rather funny. It's about a little boy who can't sleep because he hears a "roar of a snore." He wakes up everyone in the house, even the dog. You won't believe who they find giving off the "roar of a snore." Your child will love it.

In the night, Jack has trouble sleeping because the sound of somebody snoring. He begins looking for the offending snorer by waking up each member of his family.
Roar of a Snore uses unpredictable rhyme to tell the story. While the rhyme is inconsistent, it does not feel forced, which is high praise.

Well, okay, it's my book. I confess. Why did I rate it a 5? Because the kids have such a grand time reading it with me when I do author presentations at school. Because when I suggest how to write their own ROAR OF A SNORE 2, kids come up with fabulous ideas. Because Dolly Parton chose it twice, count again, TWICE, for her Dolly Parton Imagination Library. I love you Dolly Parton and I love you Huffle family (the snoring family in my book).
Fun little story about a boy who is woken up by snoring, and goes in search of the culprit. As he wakes up each member of the household, still the snoring goes on. The culprit, of course, turns out to be the least likely suspect -- a tiny kitten.
Very stylized, bright artwork that I found quite delightful.
Repeating text and some rhymes would make this a fun storytime pick. It would also make a nice bedtime story.

This is a very cute children's book and the illustrations are done very well. Jack Huffle can't sleep because a roar of a snore has woken him up. He goes through the entire house waking up his whole family looking for the person making this noise. After everyone is woken up they can still hear it. So they follow the sound outside. It has a rhyme pattern making it fun to read.
This book starts with simple sentences that correspond well with clear pictures and could easily be acted out, all of which make it useful for teaching ELLs. Towards the end, the sentences and words get more challenging and complex; however, with the context/understanding established from the beginning of the story, students should be able to continue following along.

This book follows a very predicative sequence and could be used for a making predictions lesson. The story builds throughout, including pages that name all of the people in the story so far. Students would be able to easily follow along with the story and guess who was snoring the loudest. The students will be surprised to find out it is a tiny kitten making all the ruckus!
I really liked this book! I'm sure many students would agree that they know somebody who snores, and many kids find this concept funny! It rhymes, which makes it flow really well! I love that the source of the snore ends up being a little kitten, and kids would find that funny too! This book would be apprprate for 2-5th grade.
In this story a boy and his family search for the source of a loud snore. I liked the descriptions of the different sleeping sounds. I also liked the way the list of names on the search sounded. I predicted the little twist at the end, but none of the kids at story time did. A fun bed time option for older kids.
My kindergarten and first grade classes really enjoyed this read aloud. It is humorous, cumulative and rhyming. As a great imaginative activity, have them come up with the next "chapter" in the story staring Molly Olsen.

Oh boy this is becoming a fast favorite for Sara and I. We all snore in my home so with a little sound effects while reading we can't seem to stop laughing with this story!
